The JDS doctrine, abbreviated for Jesus Died Spiritually, teaches simply that our Lord Jesus Christ had to die spiritually in hell in order to fully and completely redeem mankind from our sin and its effect, namely death. And then He had to be reborn, literally a born again man. Now in addition to this there are other facets to the JDS theology. For instance, JDS teaches that Christ had to take upon Himself the nature of Satan while He hung on the cross. JDS teaches that the spirit of Jesus, after His physical death on the cross, had to go to hell and literally suffer and be tormented by Satan himself and demons for the 3 days and 3 nights that He was there in hell. Then the spirit of Jesus spiritually dies after all of this suffering at the hands of Satan and his demons and then God breathes new life into the dead spirit of our Lord and then our Lord is raised from the grave. This is the teaching of JDS doctrine. Certa i n WOFers believe that Jesus spiritually died in the garden of Gethsemane or at some time prior to His crucifixion. What I present in this post are scriptural reasons why JDS is scripturally and thus doctrinally invalid. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ( A ) JDS some scriptures to consider; the blood of the covenant[1] But there were false prophets also among the people, even
as there shall be false teach e rs among you, who privily shall
bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought
them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. [11] I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there i s no saviour. - Isaiah 43:11 [5] For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; - I Tim. 2:5 [24] And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. - Heb. 12:24 [26] And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed
it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take,
eat; this is my body. [22] And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and
brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. [19] And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and
gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you:
this do in remembrance of me. [23] For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered
unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was
betrayed took bread: [14] In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: - Col. 1:14 [13] But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off
are made nigh by the blood of Christ. [20] And, having made peace through the blood of his cross,
by him to reconcile all things unto himse l f; by him, I say,
whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. [6] As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for
ever after the order of Melchisedec. [10] By the which will we are sanctified through the offering
of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. [8] But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while
we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. [18] (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now
tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross
of Christ: ( JDS theology goes against the reason and doctrine of the
communion of our Lord. The above scriptures clearly and plainly
show that our justfication and our redemption was purchased with
the shed blood of Jesus Christ. The communion service is a memorial
service for our Lord by which we remember that it was His shed
blood which paid the price for the sins of mankind. It was the
physical flesh bo d y of our Lord Jesus which was broken and
reconciled mankind back to our Holy, Heavenly Father. No where
in the above scripture is there even any hint that Jesus had
to die spiritually to fully and completely pay the price for
the sins of mankind. A spirit has no blood in it to give, therefore
Jesus had to become a flesh and blood man in order to fulfill
His work as the sacrificial Lamb of God by shedding His sinless
blood. If we believe and teach the JDS theology we mock our Lords
sacrific e and our memorial to Him in the communion service.
We are in truth as Paul writes to the Philippians, enemies of
the cross. ) ( B ) Did Christ take on Satans nature? Did the divine light of Christ go out as He took on Satans nature in His Spirit on the cross?[5] This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. - I John 1:5 [ 58] Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. - John 8:58 [1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. [9] That was the true L ight, which lighteth every man that
cometh into the world. [8] Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. - Heb. 13:8 [23] For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. [14] Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is
passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast
our profession. [18] Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible
things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received
by tradition from your fathers; ( These verses of scripture show that Jesus is the Light and
He is unchangable. Peter clearly tells us that mankind was not
redeemed with corruptible things. If Jesus took on the nature
of Satan on the cross then He became corrupted and therefore
could not logically redeem mankind. He then failed in His work
of saving mankind from sin and death. Furthermore, if such a
drastic change occurred in the nature of Jesus, then Jesus is
not the same yesterday, today and forever. So once again we see
the blatant fault and heresy of the JDS doctrine. ) ( C ) Did Jesus become sin[21] For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. - 2 Cor. 5:21 [3] For what the l a w could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: - Rom. 8:3 ( Jesus did become sin. Jesus became sin in His flesh body but not His Spirit. He did not obtain a sinful nature or the nature of Satan in His spirit. Jesus became sin only in His flesh while crucified on the cross. He was sent to earth in human flesh form so that the problem and end result of sin could be justifiably judge d by a Holy God in the flesh on the cross. Jesus was the sacrificial lamb of God who shed His natural sinless blood for sinful mankind. Jesus became the bearer of sin in His flesh, His natural body, so that His natural body would take the judgement, the justified condemnation for sin on the cross. Jesus never had sin in His Spirit. Jesus did not die a spiritual death but a natural death. Jesus did not pay the penalty of sin in His Spirit in hell nor in the garden of Gethsemane. He did n o t purchase our redemption by suffering and dying in hell. Jesus bought our redemption, our salvation by paying the penalty for sin in His flesh on the cross, shedding His sinless blood. ) [16] And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen
of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world,
received up into glory. [13] And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision
of your fle s h, hath he quickened together with him, having
forgiven you all trespasses; [18] Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible
things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received
by tr a dition from your fathers; ( D ) The Lords destination after the cross[39] And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on
him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. [46] And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. - Luke 23:46 ( The word commend means to give, to intrust and commit oneself
over to the care of another for the specifice purpose of preservation.
And preservation being the process of keeping or to be kept from
injury, destruction, death or decay. So from the Lords
o w n words we read that He specifically placed His Spirit into
the care and trust of the Father for the preservation of His
Spirit. Jesus did not spiritually die or suffer at the hands
of Satan or demons in hell. ) ( E ) So did Christ go to the region of hell? If so, for what purpose?[25] For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord
always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should
not b e moved: [8] Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led
captivity captive, and gave g ifts unto men. [18] For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just
for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death
in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: ( None of these scriptures give any hint or indication to state that Christ died spiritually in hell though He went to hell. Christ suffered for our sins on the cross. Christ purchased our redemption on the cross. Christ said it is finished, the work of redemption on the cross. He did not die spiritually and suffer in hell for three days and nights by Satan or demons to buy our redemption and bring us to God. It all occurred on the cross where He shed His sinless blood. If Christ is preaching in hell, according to 1 Peter 3:19, if Christ is spoiling principalities and powers making a open shew of them and triumphing over them then how can He do that and be spiritually dead and suffer torment for our sins at the same time? ) [13] And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision
of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven
you all trespasses; ( According to Paul we again see that Christ paid for our
sin, our trespasses at the cross. Furthermore we see t hat Christ
spoils principalities and powers. He triumphs over them. There
is no indication anywhere in these verses of scripture that Christ
suffered, was tormented or died in the depths of hell. Nor was
He at any time at the mercy of Satan or demons. ) ( F ) Teachers of JDS theologyKenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, Fred Price, Joyce
