OBSERVATIONS CONCERNING THE WAR ON TERRORISM

 Ken Garrison [ken@tzemach.org] (10/6/01)

1. In an article written prior to the September 11th attack ("Conspiracy ... or Just Business?" [http://www.tzemach.org/articles/junejuly2001-2.htm], Tzemach Letter, June-July 2001), I investigated the prospect that much of the wealth that has been transferred to the Moslem OPEC states since the oil embargo of 1974 has been re-invested in the U.S. economy is such a way to exert maximum control of significant blocks of banking, real estate and media. The extremely favorable picture of Islam painted by the media since September 11th, along with the media's failure to deal with those groups that are primarily focused on attacking Israel in the same manner as those groups associated with Bin Laden, tends to confirm the original hypothesis of the article cited above. If this is true it means that virtually everything we receive through normal media channels is filtered by a determined bias. We must therefore look to alternative sources of information and pay less and less heed to both print and electronic media.

2. Everyone is attempting to demonstrate the point that Islam is a peaceful religion. It may be peaceful relative to the Moslem community itself, but it is not peaceful relative to non-Moslem communities. In fact, the phenomena of suicide-bombers could be stopped immediately if Moslem authorities representing the various sects of Islam would simply declare that a suicide-bomber is not a martyr. This would stop attacks like those against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. This would not stop all terrorism but it would remove one of the most feared tools of the Moslem terrorists.

3. U.S. President George W. Bush is busy forming a vast international coalition in the struggle against terrorism. His administration is attempting to include many Middle Eastern Moslem states and entities including Syria, the Palestinian Authority and even Iran. The first target of the war is obviously Osama Bin Laden and his organization. In addition, the Taliban regime of Afghanistan is being targeted as a state hosting terrorist organizations. There is little question that Bin Laden and the Taliban deserve primary attention. Eliminating these will serve as a warning against any other.

4. If the Bush administration is successful concerning Bin Ladin and the Taliban they will proceed in either one of two ways: (1) From the vantage point of a successful campaign against the primary targets, they may advance to deal with other well known organizations such as Hamas and Hizb'Allah and their respective hosts the Palestinian Authority and Syria, and beyond these deal with Iran and Iraq; or (2) They may elect to declare the war won and allow everything to settle back to life as usual and leave the vast majority of militant Islam healthy and unchallenged.

The Moslem allies may reluctantly agree to cooperate as long as Bin Laden is the target, but none will agree when either Hamas or Hizb'Allah is concerned. Believers will be able to discern what the real intentions of the U.S. administration are by how it deals with the choices above.

5.  If the Bush administration does not include Israel in the coalition in its struggle against terrorism and recognize the relationship between fundamentalist Islam and terrorism then the war will be a farce, even assuming that the U.S. military is able to deal successfully with Bin Laden and the Taliban. Militant Islam is embraced by the masses of the Moslem countries. To fail to recognize this and to deal with it now means that the administration has succumbed to blackmail by the oil-producing Moslem states who will cut off oil supplies if militant Islam is truly challenged. That means that the next generation of Americans will be held captive to the threat of not only economic blackmail (oil embargo) but to military blackmail (because it will only be a short time before terrorists will have the capability to deliver weapons of mass destruction: nuclear, biological, and chemical). Mr. Bush has a unique opportunity to help secure the future of the next generation or relegate them to Moslem dominance. Please pray for his insight and strength.
