eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
The term SRO came up with Medicaire in conversations in the White House and we went on a hunt to find out what SRO means.
SRO proved to be an interesting journey. It delt with three areas in the search engines.
1) SRObank, SROloans, etc.. SRO has to do with investments and the US Treasury. But translation of what the letters stand for was non-existent. Brokers use it relative to US Securities Commission in the SRO Market.
2) SRO also has to do with Savannah River Operations to do with the environment and nuclear waste and nuclear stockpiling.
3) SRO is relative to national American Public Schools. It interpets to mean: School Resource Officers. We were rather surprised how comprehensive this program is and advise parents to take a look at websites listed below of involved police departments to get an understanding of the depth of the program. It links to D.A.R.E. (whatever that means, our children are raised)
This Program is run by the local Sheriff's Departments (in Florida the Lodge). They are dedicated to the NEW SRO PROGRAM. The policemen are integrated into the school system in teaching and counseling capacity as well as security.
Teaching - Counseling and Enforcement
An example from a local website: The SRO Program has been involved with several local schools for the past three years. The Yuma Police SRO Program is a partnership between the City of Yuma and three School Districts, Yuma Union High School District, Yuma School District #1 and Crane School District. Officers are assigned to a school on a full-time basis, in order to be a resource for the schools, their students, parents and the adjoining neighborhoods. Officers provide training, initiate police reports, investigate ongoing cases and offer counseling. They also serve as a strong role model to the students. Since the implementation of this program, the participating schools have seen a marked reduction of criminal activity at the schools.
Currently the Yuma Police SRO Program is attached to the Juvenile Section of the Investigations Division, supervised by Sgt. Schmitt. The SRO Program consists of the following seven officers, each assigned to their own school:OFFICER SONNY SEALE
Officer Seale has been with the Yuma Police Dept. for for over 14 years. He has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and former member of the SEU Team. He will now be assigned to the new Castle Dome Middle School as the new School Resource Officer.etc.. etc..
Take a look at the links to get a feel for how SRO is implimented.
