this ministry. We were Mormons (Temple Mormons) for 20 years.
We prayed to God in 1992 to allow us to do a ministry speaking
out against Scientology. Six months later God led us to the truth:

The church as we knew it, is undergoing disintegration. This
began on a fast track in the early nineteen sixties when the
Catholic Church produced liberal Vatican II to replace Vatican
I.
- The trend since then has been ecumenical which is truly what
the word 'Catholicism' means: a universal religion all
inclusive and multicultural. The Bible calls for a final church
and today's church doesn't resemble what Jesus taught. The Word
of God has undergone many changes to fit the progressive modes.
Many new Bible tranlations have brought confusion. The Bible
calls for a falling away from the truth before
Jesus comes back for His Bride. The true believers are called
'Ekklesia.' Our newsletters prove this fact and prove that the
Bible is true from beginning to end.
- The second section is about globalism
where we bring your attention to the social, political and global
trend, the so called democratizing what is left of the world.
This is a deception since the underlying new world global government
is developed by implementing sustainable development. The
Bible prophesies that there will be ten kings (ten horns), each
king (horn) will receive a region of the world as a reward for
work well done for the Antichrist. This is the reason for the
present development of NAU (The North American Union) as well
as the war in the Middle East. It again proves that we are moving
to closure of the times of the Gentiles prophesied in the Bible.
The end result will not be Democracy but a form of Fascist Communism
(Public/Private Corporations enslaving mankind).
- The third section compliments End Time
teachings because Israel is the time piece of the Biblical Prophecy.
1948 was the beginning of the figtree representing Israel, coming
back to life. Israel was allowed to return to its land. Israel
is the rock upon which the world stumbles and crumbles. We watch
and visit Israel for signs which point to the Tribulation to
confirm that we are moving into that space of time.

AN EXPERIENCE OF RAPTURE AS SHARED BY A SISTER
- I saw myself and another sister walking side by side jesting
normally.. A man was walking at the other side; suddenly the
man turned and said hey, the rapture has just taken place 30
seconds ago, and looking at the time it was 1.00.30s AM. The
man proceeded by saying go in the left direction you will find
other Christians there, do not go in the right direction. They
are taking the mark already. Go now I give you one minute.. I
asked him what about you? He turned and said I am the antichrist
who has lived in your midst for so long waiting for this day.
I was confused but my spirit said run, my son run. We ran and
on covering some distance. I turned back; lo and behold the man
we left has turned to the antichrist. We kept running and saw
many other people running as well. We got to a very large auditorium
too large to be described and behold multitudes of Christians...
Brethren it was a terrifying experience. People of high standing
with God, Prominent men and women of God, loved ones and friends.
I couldn't comprehend this so I screamed, all of us, God what
happened? The Lord now took me in the spirit to five churches:
In a predominant church of one tribe, I saw the pastors announcing
that the rapture has just taken place and that people should
start receiving the mark right there in the church that this
will substitute the said beast mark and enable them to buy and
sell. Brethren, what made me weep was that the innocent and ignorant
members started receiving this mark not knowing it was actually
the mark of the beast.
- The Lord then said all these pastors are agents of the beast
who has been ordained to mislead the people and who already has
the beast mark before his manifestation, and I saw marks on the
right arm of all these pastors.A brother who was fortunate to
see who to call him to start running down to the place where
all other Christians are was shot in the leg as he was about
climbing the top of the Christian's hide out. Then the Lord took
me again to another church where the pastors were just speaking
of the good things of the scripture and didn't talk about the
second coming of Christ and warn the people of the wages of sin.
The irony of it was that all these pastors and their members
were left behind. Then I saw another church where people did
really emphasize the coming but all the people didn't go as a
result of the hidden sins which weren't known to man and they
had not counted as sin. I wept bitterly because this was a church
where holiness was professed and held in high esteem. I saw another
church where people concentrated mainly on attacking demons and
where the true word was also preached but the people also didn't
go due to malice and lack of spiritual concentration. Continued:

- Once again, Israel and the Palestinians are headed to the negotiating
table. U.S.-brokered peace talks 'the first since the end of
2008, when almost year-long talks broke down' are scheduled to
take place in Washington on September 2 between Israeli Prime
Minister Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Abbas.
- This time, the faces on the Israeli and U.S. side are new,
but the issues are not: control of Jerusalem, borders, the status
and location of refugees, security, settlements. And there's
the continued and formidable challenge of getting the Palestinians
? including ruling parties like the terrorist group Hamas, which
is not represented at these talks but certainly wields power
? to abide by any decisions made.
- If there's one thing uniting both sides in this heated debate,
it's pessimism. Few seem to believe talks will yield anything
more than a rehashing of the issues followed by a reestablishing
of the impasse. In an interview, a well-known political columnist
in Israel summed it up: "Most Israelis have decided that
nothing is going to come out of it, that it will have no bearing
on their lives. So why should they care?" A Reuters news
article quoted one Palestinian as saying, "It's a failure
from the outset," and another, "We have no hope."
Netanyahu himself has said he wants to "silence the skeptics"
by reaching an agreement with the Palestinians, acknowledging
that many are indeed doubtful that anything will come of these
talks.
- So, why bother? Why, every so many years, gather world leaders
in a room to have the same seemingly doomed conversation? Given
the history of previous attempts at peace between Israel and
the Palestinians, these are good questions to ask.
- The answer is that people of faith 'Jews and Christians alike'
are told to "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (Psalm
122:6) and, further, to "seek peace and pursue it"
(Psalm 34:14). We know that the true path to peace is charted
by God Himself . He, and He alone, knows when it will come about,
and whether our efforts will help bring it closer. But, still,
we are called to be active participants in bringing about peace,
and not to allow our discouragement and cynicism to prevent us
from always working for it.
- None of this involves being unrealistic. Israel 'and any
nation that wishes to survive' must maintain a realistic and
sober view of its adversaries and refuse to make concessions
that will needlessly put its people at risk. Clearly, in this
case, Prime Minister Netanyahu 'a stubborn realist if ever there
was one' has evaluated the risks and potential benefits of negotiations,

high-profile member in his congregation. Besides presidential
hopeful Barack Obama, Wright also preaches his message to Oprah
Winfrey, one of the most successful and beloved media personalities
in America. She has an active on-line community at Oprah.com,
and her forums have had almost 300 posts from members in the
past 24 hours after the revelations of race-baiting and hatred
at Trinity United Church. Most talk about their concern over
the content of Wright’s sermons:
I have to agree with Dick Morris [who appeared on Fox's O'Reilly
Factor last night]. We both intensely dislike Hillary and Bill.
But, it needs to be said that Rev. Wright strikes me as a very
dangerous, divisive, and anti-American racist. … This is
extremely troubling. Rev. Wright is one of the worst I’ve
seen anywhere in America. He is truly dangerous. .. .. .. Obama’s
failure to distance himself from this very dangerous anti-American
will become more damaging in the next few days. …
I was upset as well. It’s beyond inflammatory and much worse
than anything Geraldine Ferrarro said, yet I don’t hear
a peep out of Obama. What is pastor said is beyond disgusting.
To blame the US for what happened on 9/11. And I am NO fan of
the Clintons, but those things he said about Hillary and Bill…and
did you “see” the tapes or just hear them? This would
certainly explain Michelle Obama’s anger.
Let’s wait and see if the mainstream media steps up to the
plate. They took great glee in attacking Mitt Romney and his
LDS faith, let’s see if they go after Obama. … Obama
should not be held responsible for what Rev. Wright says from
the pulpit. However, being a member of a church that is racist
is not much different than being a white person who belongs to
a country club that doesn’t admit Blacks. …

star Oprah Winfrey was looking for a local  church
in Chicago. Not surprisingly, she like many blacks including
four years later a community organizer named Barack Obama, was
attracted to Trinity United Church of Christ and its dynamic,
outspoken pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
- That South Side church was THE place for upwardly mobile
Windy City blacks to connect and it had an aggressive community
outreach program. And attendance continued Winfrey's childhood
connection with black churches and their shared sense of community
and support.
- As The Ticket noted Sunday morning, the same reasons caused
other black clergy to steer the young Obama there, saying he'd
have more luck connecting with black churches in his urban organizing
efforts if he actually belonged to one himself. Obama's friends
later added that alighting at Trinity with its forceful male

- Part 1: Rallying Around the Seven Mountains
- Day 6, we toured Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and
the many sites associated with our nation’s founding. In
the mean time, David [Barton] and I flew back to New York City
to be on the Glenn Beck Show with a group of about 7-8 pastors
/ Christian Leaders. Lance Wallnau flew in from Dallas to speak
to the group in Philadelphia. Lance Wallnau was, as usual, exceptional
in his laying out of how to see the culture transformed. After
the show, David and I flew back to Philadelphia to catch up with
the group once again.

- The quotation above came in the midst of this summer’s
Next Great Awakening Tour, which was hosted by Pastor Jim Garlow
and David Barton, to visit the tourist sights of the First and
Second Great Awakenings in America. This quote was from a “quick
report” by Garlow, who announced the tour “is going
awesome!”[2] The tour included Speaker Newt Gingrich, Gov.
Mike Huckabee, Sen. Rick Santorum, Rep. Bob McEwen, Family Research
Council’s Tony Perkins, along with other notables.[3] Most
significantly, the tour featured Lance Wallnau, chief promoter
of the controversial New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) doctrine,
the 7 Mountain strategy of taking Dominion.
- This fact gains considerable significance with the news this
week, as both Jim Garlow and David Barton are undergoing controversy
after partnering in a political/spiritual rally with conservative
radio host, Glenn Beck, a Mormon.
- This event with Beck, and this tour over the summer, are
indicative of a new way that the evangelical Right is conducting
itself. Why were these high-profile evangelical and political
leaders openly fraternizing with Lance Wallnau?! Do they agree
with his mandate to “possess and occupy,” take “territory,”
“take the high places,” and “conquer”?[4]
And how can they possibly call this agenda of aggressive Dominion-mongering
a “Great Awakening”? That is the question that we will
be addressing in a series of posts in the days to come.
- The open association of David Barton and Jim Garlow with
the New Apostolic Reformation leaders goes back several years
at least. Cindy Jacobs, one of the leaders of the New Apostolic
Reformation and her organization, Generals International, featured
a “Raise Up An Army Convergence ’09? conference[5]
in which Barton and Garlow were keynote speakers along with Chuck
Pierce and Dutch Sheets, key “apostles” under C. Peter
Wagner in the NAR. This conference was promoted on The Elijah
List,[6] which is the chief media organ for the leaders, doctrines
and events of the NAR. The event’s purpose was described
by Cindy Jacobs: “to raise up a prayer army to both awaken
and reform this nation,” and used all of the strident military
rhetoric of the NAR’s prayer warfare agenda.[7] The Convergence
’09 appeared to have the full trapping of the extreme “worship”

- VATICAN CITY – The Vatican raised the possibility Sunday
of using behind-the-scenes diplomacy to try to save the life
of an Iranian widow sentenced to be stoned for adultery.
- In its first public statement on the case, which has attracted
worldwide attention, the Vatican decried stoning as a particularly
brutal form of capital punishment.
- Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said the Catholic
church opposes the death penalty in general.
- It is unclear what chances any Vatican bid would have to
persuade the Muslim nation to spare the woman's life. Brazil,
which has friendly relations with Iran, was rebuffed when it
offered her asylum.
- Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani was convicted in 2006 of adultery.
In July, Iranian authorities said they would not carry out the
stoning sentence for the time being, but the mother of two could
still face execution by hanging for adultery and other offenses.
Her son, Sajad, told the Italian news agency Adnkronos that he
was appealing to Pope Benedict XVI and to Italy to work to stop
the execution.
- Lombardi told The Associated Press that no formal appeal
had reached the Vatican. But he hinted that Vatican diplomacy
might be employed to try to save Ashtiani. Lombardi said in a
statement that the Holy See "is following the case with
attention and interest."
- "When the Holy See is asked, in an appropriate way,
to intervene in humanitarian issues with the authorities of other
countries, as it has happened many times in the past, it does
so not in a public way, but through its own diplomatic channels,"
Lombardi said in the statement. In one of the late Pope John
Paul II's encyclicals in 1995, the pontiff laid out the Catholic
Church's stance against capital punishment. John Paul went to
bat in several high-profile cases of death-row inmates in the
United States. One of the first was the case of Paula Cooper,
who was convicted of murdering her elderly Bible teacher when
she was 15 but spared the electric chair by Indiana in 1989.
Other appeals for clemency have been made by the Vatican, including
one for a group of Cuban officers convicted of drug trafficking.
- Meanwhile, Italy's foreign minister, Franco Frattini, told
the ANSA news agency that while Italy respects Iranian sovereignty
and isn't in any way interfering, "a gesture of clemency
from Iran is the only thing that can save her."

- The letter lists examples of Shariah Law - some of which
are currently being practiced in America. They include: fostering
Jihad inspired terrorism, denigration of non-Muslim religions
(dhimmi culture), lack of any humanitarian court and trial system,

to death (honor killings) and mutilation of women for any perceived

Shariah Law. The letter, addressed to 535 Senators and Congressmen,
is accompanied by a list answering most frequently asked questions.
Ultimately they would like for each candidate to produce a position
paper to inform voters of their stand prior to the mid-term elections.
- Two states, Tennessee and North Carolina, have already passed
legislation outlawing Shariah law and the Oklahoma legislature
will vote on a similar bill in November.

the Constitution to accommodate Shariah law or will we take action

to announce to those of you who were planning on attending some
of our meetings over the next month that we have been denied
entry to the USA and sadly will have to cancel all the meetings.
- My whole family were detained for over 6 hours at the US
border yesterday (the USA side), questioned, photographed, fingerprinted
like criminals - and sent back to Canada. We were told we could
not come in to preach to a series of Christian groups like this
- even though their website clearly says we CAN - and I have
already been in TWICE THIS YEAR doing exactly the same thing.
They let me in then - but no more. They even fingerprinted my
15-year-old daughter. None of us (except our 9 and 11-year olds)
can even set foot in the USA again without going to the US Consulate
and getting special permission. We literally are now in the "criminal"
class according to US Immigration.
- All this because we were invited by church groups and Christian
groups across the USA to come preach a series of meetings. They
told me to do that I have to have an "R" visa. (These
take months and months to get - often never). This is not what
their website says. New Zealand is a "visa-waiver"
country and Conference speakers are specifically allowed into
the US under those rules. I asked them, "How then can a
foreign preacher who is invited by a Christian group to the USA
ever get in to preach?" They said maybe that is OK for one
or two meetings, but not for a series. So we cannot preach in
churches across the nation - even though that is exactly what
they have let me in to do before. This is the first time I have
ever been denied entry to do that very thing. And now we are
all - very evidently - "criminals". Never to darken
the door again.
- My family and I naturally came home from this pretty distraught
and devastated. My daughter was crying in the car. Six hours
is a long time to be detained like that.
- But, you know, at the end of the day, God is in control.
I felt sure then and I feel sure now that even though this was
so distressing, God was still speaking to us through it all.
I believe He is the one who is slamming the door shut on America
right now - and doing so in no uncertain terms. We have been
praying and many others have been praying for too long for this
to have just been "man's" decision. I accept it as

traveled on preaching trips I have found that many families in
good fundamental Baptist churches are using their materials.

I have read two of Michael’s books as well as issues of
No Greater Joy magazine, and I have looked carefully through
the material available at their web site.
- There is much to praise in Greater Joy Ministries. The Pearl’s
book To Train up a Child contains many very helpful things (though
it often goes beyond clear biblical precepts and enters into
a legalistic “Pearlosophy,” which is presented as dogmatically
as the parts that are supported directly by Scripture, such as
some of his teaching about education and other things that almost
require an Amish-like lifestyle). The Pearls rightly avoid “Christian”
psychology. They promote godly husband-wife relationships. They
teach parents how to reach the child’s heart rather than
enforcing mere externals. They focus on how crucial it is for
the parents to live what they preach, to avoid hypocrisy. They
teach a biblical approach to corporal punishment without apology.
They teach parents how to jealously and carefully protect their
children from evil influences. They give some excellent and timely
warnings about the danger of the average church youth group that
throws young people together in a secular fashion and thus allows
strong but worldly personalities to corrupt heretofore innocent
youth (which is exactly what happened to me as I grew up in a
Southern Baptist congregation). They are clear about parental
responsibility, that the “buck stops here” with Christian

- EVANGELISM AND APOLOGETICS
By Dr. Greg Bahnsen - The very reason why Christians are put
in the position of giving a reasoned account of the hope that
is in them is that not all men have faith. Because there is a
world to be evangelized (men who are unconverted), there is the
need for the believer to defend his faith: Evangelism naturally
brings one into apologetics. This indicates that apologetics
is no mere matter of "intellectual jousting"; it is
a serious matter of life and death - eternal life and death.
The apologist who fails to take account of the evangelistic nature
of his argumentation is both cruel and proud. Cruel because he
overlooks the deepest need of his opponent and proud because
he is more concerned to demonstrate that he is no academic fool
that to show how all glory belongs to the gracious God of all
truth. Evangelism reminds us of who we are (sinners saved by
grace) and what our opponents need (conversion of heart, not
simply modified propositions). I believe, therefore, that the
evangelistic nature of apologetics shows us the need to follow
a presuppositional defense of the faith. In contrast to this
approach stand the many systems of neutral autonomous argumentation.
- Sometimes the demand to assume a neutral stance, a noncommittal
attitude toward the truthfulness of Scripture, is heard in the
area of Christian scholarship (whether it be the field of history,
science, literature, philosophy, or whatever). Teachers, researchers,
and writers are often led to think that honesty demands for them
to put aside all distinctly Christian commitments when they study
in an area which is not directly related to matters of Sunday
worship. They reason that since truth is truth wherever it may
be found, one should be able to search for truth under the guidance
of the acclaimed thinkers in the field, even if they are secular
in their outlook. "Is it really necessary to hold to the
teachings of the Bible if you are to understand properly the
War of 1812, the chemical composition of water, the plays of
Shakespeare, or the rules of logic?" Such is their rhetorical
question. Hereby the demand for neutrality arises in the realm
of apologetics (defense of the faith). We are told by some apologists
that they would lose all hearing with the unbelieving world if
they were to approach the question of Scripture's truthfulness
with a preconceived answer to the question. We must be willing,
according to this outlook, to approach the debate with unbelievers
with a common attitude of neutrality - a "nobody knows as
yet" attitude. We must assume as little as possible at the
outset, we are told; and this means that we cannot assume any
Christian premises or teachings of the Bible. Thus the Christian
is called upon to surrender his distinctive religious beliefs,
to temporarily "put them on the shelf," to take a neutral
attitude in his thinking. Satan would love this to happen. More
than anything else, this would prevent the conquest of the world
to belief in Jesus Christ as Lord. More than anything else, this
would make professing Christians impotent in their witness, ineffective
in their evangelism, and powerless in their apologetic. Continued:

MADISON, Wisc., Aug. 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- Glenn Beck promotes
a false gospel. However, many of his political ideas can help
America. The "Restoring Honor" rally was a good idea
to promote the values of America. However, when Beck ventured
into the realm of "revival," his beliefs are open to
scrutiny.
Despite mentioning God, Beck's Mormonism and other false religions
promote a false gospel. "I marvel that ye are so soon removed
from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another
gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble
you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ." (Galatians
1:6-7)
He accuses President Obama of false theology. Beck is hypocritical
as the Mormon church has propagated deception for years. Obama's
liberation theology is in equal error.
Our country was founded on Judeo-Christian values. Mormonism
is not a Christian denomination but a cult of Christianity.
Some Mormon beliefs from "Christianity, Cults and Religions"
(Rose Publishing, 2005):
1) God has a physical body and so does his wife.
2) No Trinity. Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three separate
gods. People can become gods.
3) Jesus was created by sexual union between God and Mary.
4) Jesus was married.
5) Jesus' death does not atone for all sin.
6) Baptism for the dead.
7) African descendants were not granted Mormon privileges until
1978.

WHY GLENN BECK WANTS TO SAVE AMERICA

It says a lot about the state of the visible church when those
who, as far as I know, make no claim to be Christian exercize
more discernment than those who do. Such is the case with Beck’s
Mormon Faith Raising Alarms Among The Religious Right by Kyle
Mantyla, who is Senior Fellow and policy analyst at People For
The American Way.
Mantyla begins by sharing with us that Glenn Beck “seems
to have started undergoing a transformation from a Tea Party
leader to a Religious Right leader as he increasingly sells his
brand of right-wing conspiracy-theorizing in religious terms.

What started with his partnership with David Barton as rapidly
expanded to include all sorts of Religious Right activists and
now Beck has started claiming that his upcoming 'Restoring Honor'
rally is literally being orchestrated by God and that 'the Spirit
of the Lord is going to be unleashed like you’ve never felt
it before' and miracles will take place at the event.
Beck’s move to establish himself as a religious leader among
conservatives is being met with alarm from some evangelical activists
due to the fact that Beck is Mormon, forcing people like Barton
to defend his associations with Beck by claiming that Beck shouldn’t
be judged by the label he wears but by the fruits that he produces.
First, it is clear that Beck is claiming this event has the approval
of God and He is bringing his people together in a revival; and
secondly, we can see David Barton is in full agreement with Beck’s
mythology: Beck: I think this is an opportunity to gather God’s
people together and wake people up. And I just have this feeling
that this is the beginning of something gigantic in this country,

clearly as possible that the God of the Bible is a completely
different God from the god of Mormonism, that the Christ of Scripture
is a wholly different Christ from the christ of Mormonism, and
the true gospel is a radically different gospel from the gospel
of Mormonism. I have maintained a cordial relationship with Dr.
Millet for the sake of the truth, and am happy to provide him
with as much of my material as he wishes to read. But my concern
is for the truth; I’m not interested in artificial harmony
between two contradictory faiths. For that reason I have consistently
made clear in all my dialogue with Dr. Millet that there is no
spiritual common ground between biblical Christianity and Mormonism.
I would never deliberately equivocate on the truth or do anything
that might lend credence to Mormonism. I’m convinced (as
are all who understand Scripture accurately) that Mormonism is
a false religion, generated by Satan. It is a damnable heresy,
and in the words of Paul, “a different gospel,” under

of the State of California already voted YES and ipso facto against

- THE MOSQUE
- Matthew 3:1-12 And now also the axe is laid unto the root
of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good
fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
The Mosque is not just a place, but a symbol that represents
a religion. So how one thinks about the Mosque is part and parcel
how one thinks about the religion. But the mosque is more than
just a religious symbol. It is a rallying cry that is strummed
by other sympathetic tones; such as racial tolerance.
We as a nation may be headed towards a conflict where there will
be literally blood in the streets. Not since the 1960's has there
been a greater racial divide in this country. Unless there is
a spiritual revival; even if there is a sea change in the Congress
with a Republican conservative take over, it seems we as a nation
are headed towards the unthinkable; race wars.
What is this un-seeable wedge being driven into the social fabric
of this our United States of America?
One of the great movies of the last decade starred Daniel Day
Lewis. It was called, "There will be Blood." If you
haven't seen it then you are missing out on and epic movie. The
story is about an oil man (Daniel Day) who finds success in the
oil business, as he pursues his oil business concerns he losses
all sense of values and at the same time develops an intense
hatred towards a false religious Christian prophet. The one who
is to show the oil man the way (the prophet) is actually the
one who drives him away from the answer.
The great disaster (the wedge) we are currently observing in
our country is being driven by the false prophets and disciples
of "Black Reformation theology." Black Reformation
theology at its core is anti-Christ. It is anti-Christ, because
it turns upside down the real message and meaning of Christ and
His atonement on the cross.
What is interesting about Black Reformation theology's disciples
such as Pres. Barrack Hussein Obama, Rev. Wright, Louie Farrakhan,
and their ilk believe Jesus was a prophet, but not the Son of
God. They can say, "Yes we believe in Jesus," (and
in that sense they can say they are Christian) but they see Jesus
as a victim at the hands of the oppressor(s); the Jews and the
Romans. The disciples of Black Reformation theology allege that
Christ was a victim (as they see all black people) of the oppressive
class. He was oppressed and killed by them and this is how those
black people, who follow that philosophy of the Black Reformists,

August 21, 2010. I have two questions for YOU. What do you see
when you look at the world? What do you see when you look at
the "church"? I believe that if you were to answer
the two questions honestly that you would come to the ultimate
conclusion that there is truly no fear of God in either of them.
My mother once told me when I was young that the "fear of
the Lord" was my covering. It took me years to understand
what she was trying to convey to me. The Bible tells me that:
"He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but
he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him." Proverbs
14:2 For our allotted time let us discuss the "fear of the
Lord/fear of God", and let us pray that our God would be
pleased and blessed to shine a light into our hearts. For Proverbs
1:7 states: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge:
but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

Russ Jones - OneNewsNow - 8/17/2010 - Another mainline denomination,
the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), is reporting
a decline in membership, joining a growing trend in mainline
loses.The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America -- the largest
Lutheran body in the U.S. -- lost almost 91,000 members and 48
congregations last year (see earlier story). Mark Tooley, president
of the Institute on Religion & Democracy, says other mainline
denominations, such as the Episcopal Church and the United Methodist
Church, have seen continuous decline as well since the mid 1960s.
In response to the loss in membership, which is accompanied by
a nearly three-percent dorp in giving, the ELCA Church Council
is revising its remaining 2010 budget as well as restructuring
the church-wide organization in 2011.
Tooley, whose organization monitors mainline denominations in
the U.S., contends there is a direct connection between membership
loss and a denomination's position on same-sex "marriage."

- CHRISTIAN TV'S ALL-TIME WORST FUNDRAISING GIMMICKS

- Let's stop the hypnotism, the guilt manipulation and the high-pressure
gimmicks. It's time to reclaim our lost credibility. Normally
I'd rather go to the dentist for a root canal than watch a telethon.
But while channel surfing a few nights ago I tuned into PBS and
discovered that Aretha Franklin, the legendary Queen of Soul,
was hosting a fundraiser for the network. Seated at a piano,
she was offering a 5-CD collection of classic rhythm and blues
hits in exchange for a donation to public television.
- It was simple. There were no gimmicks, no games and no strings
attached in Aretha's offer. If you gave the suggested gift, she
explained, PBS would mail you a big slice of American pop culture—including
songs by Gladys Knight and the Pips, Smokey Robinson, the Four
Tops, Al Green and Aretha herself, singing her classic "Respect."
- "I still don't know what is more outrageous: That programmers
allow such insanity on Christian television, or that gullible
Christians fall for it year after year."
- My respect for PBS was still intact when the telethon ended,
thanks to this low-key, no-pressure approach to fundraising.
I can't say that for some Christian networks, which have shamelessly
extorted money from viewers over the years using heavy-handed
guilt manipulation, hypnotic control and bizarre Scripture-twisting.
- During the PBS telethon I wondered why Christian networks
couldn't simply offer music, books or other premiums instead
of resorting to the typical arm-twisting and tear-jerking that
we've come to expect. We need an overhaul in this area. Somebody
needs to lead the way in pioneering a new style of on-air fundraising
that doesn't treat people like brainless zombies.
- Here are five of my least favorite fundraising tactics. I
wish all of them could be banned from the airwaves.
- Gimmick #1: The magic Bible verse. You know the drill. The
evangelist quotes Psalm 37:37 and then announces that if you
will send $37.37 ("No more, no less!") God will unleash
all the blessings of King David upon you. (Hint: The phones seem
to ring more frequently when the number seven is included in
the Bible reference.)
- Gimmick #2: The urgent, time-is-running-out plea. Before
the preacher asks you to reach for your wallet, dramatic music
is piped in. Then "Reverend Cheatem" talks about how
the crippled man waited by the pool of Bethesda, hoping that
the angel would trouble the waters so he could be healed. "God
is troubling the waters right now, my dear friend," the
preacher says with his eyes closed. "Go to the phones now,
before it is too late. Only those who give in this holy, anointed
moment will receive a supernatural blessing in return."
- Gimmick #3: The memorialized gift. One popular evangelist
announced on-air that she needed thousands of dollars to build
a prayer room. She promised that those who funded this noble
effort would receive recognition with special brass nameplates
that would be mounted on the wall of the facility. The implication
was that people could buy prayer coverage, sort of like a spiritual
insurance policy. (I'm not surprised—since this woman offered
her loyal followers the status of "spiritual son" or
"spiritual daughter" if they paid a $1,000 annual fee.)
- Gimmick #4: The debt-breaking anointing. One preacher who
specializes in telethons has raised millions by telling audiences
that they are just one donation away from eliminating all red
ink. All they have to do is give a sacrificial gift (usually
four figures) to the TV network in the next few minutes. If they
do this, God will wipe out their debts, no questions asked. No
lifestyle changes necessary. (This technique was especially popular
before the mortgage crisis.)
- Gimmick #5: The Day of Atonement offering. This particularly
odd strategy has been popular in the last couple of years, especially
among gullible Christians who believe God blesses anything and
everything that has the word "Israel" attached to it.
The preacher announces that if you write a check to their network,
and wave it in the air before you mail it (preferably while wearing
a Jewish prayer shawl), God will forgive your sins, restore your
health, bring back your wayward children, provide angelic protection
and bless you with more than a dozen other special favors. I
still don't know what is more outrageous: That programmers allow
such insanity on Christian television, or that gullible Christians
fall for it year after year. Hopefully, emerging leaders in the
religious broadcasting industry will restore our lost credibility
by insisting on integrity, authenticity and good taste. J. Lee
