like to introduce ourselves. George and Rita Williams founded
this ministry. We were Mormons (Temple Mormons) for 20 years.
We prayed to God in 1992 to allow us to do a ministry speaking
out against Scientology. Six months later God led us to the truth:
out of the cult of Mormonism. We did not know at the time we
were in a cult. No-one had witnessed to us in 20 years.
- The Holy Spirit brought us to information about all the cults
and the present development of the New World Order. We began
bringing our research to you. Because all the research was already
done, we decided to build a library within Cephas Ministry. Our
newsletters are not designed to provoke
anger which is strictly prohibited in Scripture. It is to shed
light on activities by those who would deceive those who are
recorded in the Book of Life by devious methods and systematic

The focus of these newsletters is to prove why we had to leave
the world system. We are called 'Watchmen on the Wall' which
God always had during the Old / New Testament Times.

The news about churches is unedited unless indicated by Ednotes.
The church as we knew it, is undergoing disintegration. This
began on a fast track in the early nineteen sixties when the
Catholic Church produced liberal Vatican II to replace Vatican
I.
- The trend since then has been ecumenical which is truly what
the word 'Catholicism' means: a universal religion all
inclusive and multicultural. The Bible calls for a final church
and today's church doesn't resemble what Jesus taught. The Word
of God has undergone many changes to fit the progressive modes.
Many new Bible tranlations have brought confusion. The Bible
calls for a falling away from the truth before
Jesus comes back for His Bride. The true believers are called
'Ekklesia.' Our newsletters prove this fact and prove that the
Bible is true from beginning to end.
- The second section is about globalism
where we bring your attention to the social, political and global
trend, the so called democratizing what is left of the world.
This is a deception since the underlying new world global government
is developed by implementing sustainable development. The
Bible prophesies that there will be ten kings (ten horns), each
king (horn) will receive a region of the world as a reward for
work well done for the Antichrist. This is the reason for the
present development of NAU (The North American Union) as well
as the war in the Middle East. It again proves that we are moving
to closure of the times of the Gentiles prophesied in the Bible.
The end result will not be Democracy but a form of Fascist Communism
(Public/Private Corporations enslaving mankind).
- The third section compliments End Time
teachings because Israel is the time piece of the Biblical Prophecy.
1948 was the beginning of the figtree representing Israel, coming
back to life. Israel was allowed to return to its land. Israel
is the rock upon which the world stumbles and crumbles. We watch
and visit Israel for signs which point to the Tribulation to
confirm that we are moving into that space of time.

- INTRODUCTION
- To read this book requires love for the Gospel, if you don't
you might as well put it away because you'll simply think it
foolishness. The book proves that biblical truth is indeed truth
that sustains us. No matter what happens to us we land on our
feet and move on knowing we are only passing through. The world
is irrelevant. What is relevant is our eternal life, where we'll
spend it in heaven or hell. All human beings have eternal life
but where they will spend it is the question.
This book will reveal the resistance we are up against in our
enemy Satan who only works to undermine believers in Christ Jesus
because Satan knows where he is going and wants all of humanity
to join him. Those who already have sworn their allegiance to
Satan are no problem to him. Like Jesus Christ, who preached
only three years, was crucified because Satan hated Him, we become
the object of Satan's hatred as well. Had Jesus weakened and
let Satan tempt Him, He would have been King of this world for
a season and the whole world would have ended up in hell forever.
Every man, woman, and child's salvation hung on one man. To prove
to us that we can depend on Him forever, He weakened Himself
by fasting 40 days before He was confronted with the offer to
possess the whole world. If He was 100% human and 100% Spirit,
He experienced everything humans do, yet gave Himself to be humiliated,
be bled and died for our sakes who are completely undeserving
as you will see in this book.
God knows our lot, that we have no chance of making it to Heaven
on our own. We can try as hard as we want; Satan derails us at
every turn without God's intervention. Most of us believe that
we are good people and would not hurt anyone, go to church on
Sunday and earn our wages by the sweat of our brow. That is well
and good, but we tend to be rebels spiritually. We want to do
it our way instead of studying the Bible we read other books
and listen to evangelists in the hope that's going to get us

A IS THE ANGEL MICHAEL THE RESTRAINER?
- Dear P., As you know the Bible is vague about the restrainer
and it is not easy to come up with a conclusive answer on this
subject. As you know there are various conclusions from preachers.
I have questions on it myself so I went to the Word to make sure
I don't mislead. You brought up a good point about thinking that
it could be Michael, the angel, since angels are part of our
lives according to the Gospel. I could not find any references
though that Michael may be the restrainer. Following are verses
that pertain to him and notes that come from my Bible program.
(KJV) Since the Holy Spirit is one with God, the Holy Spirit,
and the teacher of the Word of God, is not really aggressive
about the rest of the world to be a restrainer. It could well
be that the restrainer is the Word of God, spoken by the Holy
Spirit boldly. Notice in these Scriptures how the Sword is used
in Jesus's mouth.
- Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia
withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the
chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the
kings of Persia.
- From notes of the Bible program Commentary Jamieson, Fausset
and Brown Da 10:13
- 13. prince of . . . Persia--the angel of darkness
that represented the Persian world power, to which Israel was
then subject. This verse gives the reason why, though Daniel's
"words were heard from the first day" (Da 10:12), the
good angel did not come to him until more than three weeks had
elapsed (Da 10:4).
- one and twenty days--answering to the three weeks
of Daniel's mourning (Da 10:2).
- Michael--that is, "Who is like God?" Though
an archangel, "one of the chief princes," Michael was
not to be compared to God.
- help me--Michael, as patron of Israel before God (Da
10:21; 12:1), "helped" to influence the Persian king
to permit the Jews' return to Jerusalem.
- I remained--I was detained there with the kings of
Persia, that is, with the angel of the Persian rulers, with whom
I had to contend, and from whom I should not have got free, but
for the help of Michael. GESENIUS translates, "I obtained
the ascendency," that is, I gained my point against the
adverse angel of Persia, so as to influence the Persian authorities

- PRAYING FOR THE SICK
- "Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry?
let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for
the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing
him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith
shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if
he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your
faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may
be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth
much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and
he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not
on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And
he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought
forth her fruit " (James 5:13-18).
- 1. Miscellaneous introductory points
- a. The Bible nowhere condemns doctors and medicine, but it
does condemn trusting in man rather than God (2 Chron. 16:12)
- b. This passage shows that the apostolic gift of healing
would pass away. Here the elders of the church are called rather
than someone with the gift of healing. The elders do not lay
hands on the person or rebuke the sickness or cast out devils,
but they simply anoint him with oil and pray for him. The gift
of healing was associated with the apostolic age, and God gave
the apostles sign gifts to authenticate their calling (2 Cor.
12:12). See Mark 3:14-15; Acts 2:43; 4:33; 5:12, 15; 19:12. The
apostles laid the foundation for the church (Eph. 2:20), and
when they died their sign gifts ceased. If the sign miracles
were operative throughout the church age, they could not have
been effective as apostolic sign gifts. Even in the early churches,
all Christians could not do the sign miracles of the apostles.
The only exceptions were a few men upon whom the apostles had
laid hands. There was no general miracle-working experience among
the first churches. If there had been, Paul could not have pointed
to his miracle-working ability as a special sign. His would have
been just another miracle-working Christian ministry if all could
have performed such things; but all could not. If all could have
performed miracles as a matter of course, the Christians would
not have called for Peter to come and raise Dorcas from the dead
(Acts 9:36-42). Peter's miracle that day was the 'sign of an

- THE COMING PERSECUTION
- [Ednote: Pastor Schimmel believes that all Christians will
be in the seven year tribulation. We believe that we must be
ready for persecution because we do not know when the Rapture
occurs. Persecution is ongoing since the First Coming of Jesus
Christ.
- Grant it, Revelation 7:14 points to believers being
present in the tribulation as this verse signifies: "And
I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These
are they which came out of great tribulation, and have
washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb."
- Applying the parable of the ten virgins, five will not
have their lamps full of oil. Only those who have oil in
their lamps (the Word of God in their hearts) will go through
the open door Jesus provided in Luke 13:25, Rev. 3:8 & 3:20.
The virgins who have no oil in their lamps will realize during
the tribulation that they still have a chance to wash their robes
and will have to give up their lives when they do not take the
mark of the beast. To warn the luke warm believers is the

- THE COMING PERSECUTION - By Pastor Joe Schimmel - The coming
persecution has already begun to one degree or another. Street
preachers in South Carolina are handcuffed and hauled off to
jail due to "noise pollution." Christians in the Middle
East are put to death in the name of Allah and even a friend
of mine, Wally Tope, was beaten into a coma by looters as he
shared the gospel in LA during the riots. True, persecution has
been the lot of the church since it's inception and books like
"FOXE'S BOOK OF MARTYRS," have testified of this fact
down through the corridors of time.
- The scriptures testify that persecution would increase in
the last days due to the increasing lawlessness of mankind (2
Tim. 3:1-13). This coming persecution will be so intense that
a world wide mandate will go out in the name of the Antichrist
to the effect that all who do not conform to the coming New World
Order "must die.
- "And he causes all, the small and -the great, and the
rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given
a mark on their right hand, or on their forehead, and he provides
that no one should be able to buy or to sell, except the one
who has the mark, either the name of the beast, or the number
of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate
the number of the beast, for the number is that of man. And his
number is six hundred and sixty six," (Rev. 13:16-18).
- Christians will have to face this intense persecution in
what the Bible refers to as the Great Tribulation. The word of
God reveals to us that a "great multitude" of believers
from "every nation" and "all tribes, peoples,
and tongues" of the Earth will "come out of the great
tribulation (Rev. 7:9-14)."
- Jesus revealed to us that the Antichrist will "make
war with the saints" and "overcome them" as the
beast establishes his world government and is given "authority"
over "every tribe and people and tongue and nation,"
(Rev. 13:7). Perseverance will therefore be required by those
who have "their faith in Jesus," (Rev. 13:10, 14:12).
Those who refuse to take the mark of the beast will be killed
by the Antichrist and will be resurrected in the first resurrection
(Rev. 20:1-6). In contrast, those who follow the beast and receive
his mark will be damned by God and finally thrown into the lake
of fire, the second resurrection (Rev. 20:1-6). Continued:

have a fine way of setting aside the commandments of Elohim in

- A friend in Texas recently said to me, "The last words
the pilot of the airplane that landed in the Hudson River in
New York said to the passengers and crew were - BRACE FOR IMPACT."
As believers in the sureness of the One True God to manifest
His Plans and Purposes as He has proclaimed in scripture that
He said He would do, we need to brace ourselves for the impact
that is soon to engulf us (Matthew 24:32 click on hightlighted
reference for scripture). The events we have seen over the past
six months to engulf the world has eclipsed everything that has
come before and the events that are soon to come will eclipse
this. Even the leading economists and pundits around the globe
are now telling us that there will be no recovery. That when
we finally do hit bottom - it will just be a new reality. This
world is not coming to an end; it is being prepared for a new
reality. That reality is to be His Rule and Reign on this earth
for a thousand years from His throne in Jerusalem (Revelation

- CAPERNAUM - THE TOWN OF JESUS
- Nicholas Scrolls by Nicholas A Stivers: ".... The ancient
town of Capernaum is considered to be central to Christ's ministry.
Here, the scriptures reveal that Jesus and His disciples settled
and as Jesus revealed, because the people of Capernaum rejected
his message of repentance, grace and salvation, it became one
of three cities that Jesus cursed, never to be rebuilt again.
The Book of Matthew tells us directly that this is where Jesus
lived and is supported by an Old Testament prophecy found in
Isaiah. Matthew 4:13-17 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt
in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of
Zebulon and Naphtali: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken
by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The land of Zebulon, and the land
of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of
the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light;
and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light
is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say,"Repent,

- BREAKING NEWS: STIMULUS BILL DISCRIMINATES AGAINST RELIGIOUS
ACTIVITY
ACLJ 2/3/2009 - Our legislative team has unearthed a little noticed
provision in the economic stimulus bill that is simply unacceptable.
There's a provision in Section 803 of the measure that provides
money for the modernization of university facilities. However,
as written, the stimulus bill would prohibit schools that accept
this funding from allowing religious activity to take place in
those facilities.
- Here's the language included in the stimulus bill:
- "Grants awarded under this section shall be for the
purpose of modernizing, renovating, and repairing institution
of higher education facilities that are primarily used for instruction
and research. . . ." Funds may not be used for the "modernization,
renovation, or repair of facilities--(i) used for sectarian instruction,
religious worship, or a school or department of divinity; or
(ii) in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities
are subsumed in a religious mission."
- This is a discriminatory measure that must be removed from
the stimulus bill.
- This provision would, in fact, prohibit universities that
allow student groups to use facilities for Bible studies or worship
services from receiving federal funds under the stimulus package.
- Our legal and legislative teams are engaging this issue immediately.

- BEHIND "DIVERSITY" THE MUZZLING OF CHRISTIANS
February 2nd, 2009 - LAIGLESFORUM “Diversity” aims
to suppress Christianity - I am posting this as a companion piece
to the article on Common Purpose and on “diversity”
and “leadership” training, both from the UK but both
relevant and timely for US readers. Look how people have been
brainwashed by all the PC diversity discussion in the mass media
and by diversity training: ‘I have Christian beliefs myself
and maybe she meant well. But it could perhaps be upsetting for
some other people if they have different beliefs or thought that
she meant they looked in such a bad way that they needed praying
for.’
- Notice how no one of another faith complained, yet a “Christian”
was dreadfully afraid a Muslim or atheist might be offended on
their way to hell or that a dying patient might think they were
dying and realize the need for repentance. Imagine living in
a world in which praying for a dying patient is banned. We are

- 06 February 2009 - ".... The office will be more involved
in policy planning than it was during the Bush years, White House
aides said. They said the top priorities for the office will
be interfaith relations, strengthening the role of fathers in
society and reducing poverty. The office also will help develop
policies aimed at reducing the number of abortions, though no
specifics were offered. Obama kept in place, however, much of
the legal structure for the office created through executive
orders by Bush. The 11 faith-based offices Bush established in
different agencies and a faith liaison in the public outreach
office will continue. Paul Monteiro will be the religious liaison
in the Office of Public Liaison, the White House said yesterday.
- DuBois said the faith-based office will employ about 50 people.
Despite speaking on the campaign trail against the Bush administration's
approach -- including on hiring and proselytizing -- Obama wants
"to create a process to look at this in a way that can withstand
scrutiny and takes into account views on all sides," DuBois

- THE ANTI-FAITH, ANTI-FAMILY STIMULUS
- President Obama and Congressional leaders are rushing a $1.2
Trillion spending package through Congress that is really an
"Anti-Faith, Anti-Family Stimulus." Versions of this
stimulus have included hundreds of millions of dollars for anti-life
"family planning" programs. Plus, provisions specifically
restrict or ban faith-based organizations from receiving funds,
making this an anti-faith bill. This is discrimination of the
worst kind! In order for this anti-faith, anti-family stimulus
bill to reach the president's desk, it must first undergo the
process of melding the House version and the Senate version into
a single bill. Special Conference Committee members from both
the House of Representatives and the Senate will participate
in the process of hammering out a single bill that is acceptable
to both legislative bodies.

- Steve was Born in Bradford in 1954. He and his brother lost
their father who was tragically killed by a drunk driver, when
they were very young. By the age of 17 Steve made a proclamation
of faith, he travelled to Denmark, where he spent a year, amongst
other things, running a café ministry in Copenhagen on
one of the first Youth With A Mission (YWAM) projects, YWAM is
now ecumencial. He returned to London to study for a degree in
theology at London Bible School (now London School of Theology)
that has an interfaith basis. There he met his wife, Ann. After
a brief period as a salesman and social worker, Steve embarked
on teacher training in 1978, at Carnegie School of Physical Education.
He taught for five years, running a unit for pupils withdrawn
from mainstream studies in Longford School in Hounslow. Later
he became Head of General Education at The Feltham School, while
contributing to his local church as much as possible. In 1985
he decided to leave this promising career in education to pursue
his passion for the church and become a Christian worker. Since
then, Steve has worked in a variety of church roles, including
many, but not exclusively, with the heretical Gerald Coates of
Pioneer and his network of churches. Currently he is a member
of the leadership team at his local church in West London.

United Nations human rights treaty that could prohibit children
from being spanked or homeschooled, ban youngsters from facing
the death penalty and forbid parents from deciding their families'
religion is on America's doorstep, a legal expert warns. Michael
Farris of Purcellville, Va., is president of ParentalRights.org,
chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association and chancellor
of Patrick Henry College. He told WND that under the U.N. Convention
on the Rights of the Child, or CRC, every decision a parent makes
can be reviewed by the government to determine whether it is
in the child's best interest.
- "It's definitely on our doorstep," he said. "The
left wants to make the Obama-Clinton era permanent. Treaties
are a way to make it as permanent as stuff gets. It is very difficult
to extract yourself from a treaty once you begin it. If they
can put all of their left-wing socialist policies into treaty
form, we're stuck with it even if they lose the next election."
The 1990s-era document was ratified quickly by 193 nations worldwide,
but not the United States or Somalia. In Somalia, there was then
no recognized government to do the formal recognition, and in
the United States there's been opposition to its power. Countries
that ratify the treaty are bound to it by international law.
- Although signed by Madeleine Albright, U.S. ambassador to
the U.N., on Feb. 16, 1995, the U.S. Senate never ratified the
treaty, largely because of conservatives' efforts to point out
it would create that list of rights which primarily would be
enforced against parents. The international treaty creates specific
civil, economic, social, cultural and even economic rights for
every child and states that "the best interests of the child
shall be a primary consideration." While the treaty states
that parents or legal guardians "have primary responsibility
for the upbringing and development of the child," Farris
said government will ultimately determine whether parents' decisions
are in their children's best interest. The treaty is monitored
by the CRC, which conceivably has enforcement powers.

Inauguration prayer, Rick Warren prayed in the name of "Yeshua,"
"Isa" and "Jesus." It seems, the three names
Warren used were to imply the three "Abrahamic Faiths"
(as they are so-called), Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
- What's significant is the name "Isa" being prayed
by the "evangelical" Warren. Isa is strictly Koranic
and used by Arab Muslims. Even Arab Christians don't refer to
Isa, but to Yesua. I've lived and studied Arabic in one of the
same Muslim countries that Warren has visited, and I think he
probably knows that the Arab Christian communities only refer
to Jesus as "Yesua" and not "Isa" as the
Muslims.
- Isa was not Jewish, but Palestinian. Isa did not die on the
cross but instead had someone die in his place. Isa is a Muslim
prophet. Isa is only found in the Koran. The name Isa doesn't
have any Biblical support or any meaning found in Biblical scholarship.

away from Heathrow today after testing the Home Secretary’s
ban on him entering the country. Immigration officials denied
the Dutch MP entry to the country after the Government decided
he should not be allowed to attend a screening of his controversial
anti-Islamist film tonight. Mr Wilders said: "I am in a
detention centre at Heathrow ... I am detained. They took my
passport. I will not be allowed to enter the country. They will
send me back within a few hours.”

Government was “the biggest bunch of cowards in Europe”.
It is easy to invite people you agree with, it is more difficult
to invite people you disagree with and this is the proof of the
pudding," he said. "I am going to Great Britain because

5, 2009). Caroline Petrie, a Christian nurse who attends a Baptist
church, was suspended after she offered to pray for an elderly
patient who was offended and reported the matter to the authorities.
Petrie was reinstated after a public outcry that reached the
House of Commons (one Tory MP said the case highlighted the "utter
absurdities" of political correctness), but the new rule
is still on the books and Christian medical practitioners are
now in constant danger of being disciplined simply for practicing
their religion and offering spiritual help to their patients.

"The "persecution of Christians with a Muslim background"
has "drastically" increased around the world, according
to a report released Tuesday, February 3, by a leading Christian
rights group. Netherlands-based Open Doors, which supports Christians
"persecuted for their faith," said Communist-run North
Korea still tops the top 10 of its annual World Watch List (WWL)
of 50 countries with the worst cases of religious persecution.
"However number two through seven are occupied by countries
where people who converted from Islam to Christianity are in
life danger," the group told Worthy News. "Christians
with a Muslim background are a vulnerable group within the Muslim
world," said Open Doors Director Tjalling Schotanus speaking
from Open Doors" headquarters in the Dutch town of Ermelo.
"A Muslim who abandons Islam is seen as someone who offends
his family, his country and his religion," he added. Saudi
Arabia is mentioned at WWL's number two as "only Muslims
are allowed to openly express their religion," Open Doors
said. Iran was mentioned at number three amid reports that "many
Christians with a Muslim background have been detained and tortured,"
the group said. "In addition the country wants to introduce
a law which will force judges to impose the death penalty on
those abandoning Islam." Afghanistan also had the dubious
honor of rising three places compared to a year ago, from number
seven to four, due to what Open Doors described as mainly the
"growing pressure from the Taliban and other Muslim extremist
groups in the country," despite the presence of an international

of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the
definition of an infidel?' There was no disagreement with my
statements and, without hesitation, he replied, 'Non-believers!'

had “physical confrontations off and on” for their
entire eight-year marriage that had recently escalated to death
threats. The grounds for divorce were “cruel and inhuman
treatment,” DiPirro said, referring to mulitple prior incidents
of abuse. She declined to elaborate.

DiPirro said. The couple had two children, ages 4 and 6, DiPirro

CLEARWATER — A mother has filed a wrongful death lawsuit
against the Church of Scientology, its Flag Service Organization
and three parishioners, claiming they brought about her son’s
death by denying him access to his antidepression medication.
Among the three parishioners named as defendants: Denise Gentile,
the twin sister of the church’s current worldwide leader,

- ORAL ROBERTS: SON DID NOTHING WRONG IN SCANDAL
- In a visit to the Oral Roberts University campus on Saturday,
the 91-year-old Roberts said he and Richard Roberts did not discuss
his son’s decision to resign as the school’s president
in late 2007. The younger Roberts, a televangelist, was accused
along with his wife, Lindsay, of spending money on shopping sprees,
home improvements and a stable of horses for their daughters
at a time when ORU was badly in debt. Both have denied wrongdoing.
The school had been more than $17 million in debt until billionaire
Oklahoma City businessman Mart Green’s family donated a
total of $80 million and pledged to restore the public’s
trust in the school. Green is now the chairman of the university’s
board of trustees. “Oral Roberts University is the No. 1
thing that stands out in my heart, because youth are the future,
and I knew that,” he said. Roberts spoke little of ORU’s
troubled past 15 months, when the university faced $55 million
in debt and multiple lawsuits by former employees and students.
He said he didn’t know whether his son, former ORU President
Richard Roberts, had misused university money or abused his power,

- PASTOR T.D. JAKES EXPRESSES SUPPORT FOR SON ACCUSED OF INDECENT
EXPOSURE
DALLAS, February 16, 2009 - Bishop T.D. Jakes says he is offering
“help, support and restorative grace” to his son Jermaine,
who faces an indecent exposure charge. “It is in moments
like these that I am so grateful that we do not preach that we
are the solution, but we look to Christ for resolution,”
Jakes, pastor of Dallas’ megachurch The Potter’s House,
said in a written statement provided to The Dallas Morning News
late Friday night. “So then, as a very human family with
real issues, like many other people, we will draw from the same
well of grace to which we have led others to drink and be refreshed,”
the statement concludes. According to police, Jermaine Jakes,
29, exposed himself in front of an undercover Dallas police vice
detective on the night of Jan. 3 at Kiest Park, near West Kiest

- Mary Schatzman knew right away what she would do last week
after learning that a church near her Green Township home was
offering "indulgences" to interested Catholics. While
some parishioners seemed indifferent or confused by the offer,
Schatzman didn't hesitate.
- "I'm going to get one," she said. Her eagerness
reflects a renewed interest among Catholics in a tradition that
had for decades all but vanished from their religious life. In
the past year, Catholics across the Archdiocese of Cincinnati
and thousands more around the world have gone to confession,
taken communion and said the prayers necessary to receive what
is known as a "plenary indulgence." For the indulgence,
a blessing that helps Catholics avoid punishment in the afterlife,
it is a remarkable comeback. The practice suffered a precipitous
fall from grace 500 years ago when the Catholic Church began
selling them to rich people looking to buy their way into
heaven. Although the church stopped selling them long ago,
the stain on the indulgence's reputation endured for centuries.
The church never abandoned the indulgence, however, and it now
is part of a broader campaign by Pope Benedict XVI to revive
some fading church traditions and to draw Catholics back to teachings
that younger generations know little about. "Most
people, if they've heard anything about indulgences in the last
40 years, it's been negative," said the Rev. Earl Fernandes,
dean of Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati. "What we're
trying to do is bring about a more mature understanding of the
process." Catholics like Schatzman welcome the change. Her
Sunday school lessons made no mention of indulgences when she
was growing up in the late 1960s and early 1970s, so she had
to educate herself when she started hearing about them a few
years ago. "You receive this great grace and you are freed
from sin. I think it's beautiful," said Schatzman, who plans
to get an indulgence at St. Teresa of Avila in Price Hill, one
of six archdiocese churches offering them this year. Continued:

arbitrary manner some of these indulgences are set forth, that
the one who knows least, and yet is afraid of the fires of hell,
will pay or perform, as in a series of Masses in a period, or
Masses on certain days in a row, or straight cash money, which
amount is noted as the proper amount to get a suffering soul
from out of the fires of Purgatory! There's no Purgatory sadly,
and yet, millions are banking on their family members to buy
them out of that place of "beautifying by burning,"
something that only the most corrupt of people could have chosen
to teach, as AGAINST the character of the God of Heaven, as if
Yahweh would create such a place, and bring one from out of there
to Heaven, once the money order, cash or cheque hits the Bank
Account of that particular local Church! What a cruel God, Satan
makes Him out to be, AND what an incredibly fearful situation
Heaven is in, when one still loving certain sins who is in Purgatory
to be purified from those particular sins that are loved, is
suddenly because of a donation to change places, going into Heaven,
without the love for a certain sin purified from him/her! What
would happen if love for that sin causes another rebellion?!]

- POPE TELLS NANCY PELOSI'S LIFE MUST BE PROTECTED

18, 2009 - VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI received Nancy Pelosi,
one of the most prominent abortion rights politicians in America,
and told her Wednesday that Catholic politicians have a duty
to protect life "at all stages of its development."
The U.S. House speaker, a Catholic, was the first top Democrat
to meet with Benedict since the election of Barack Obama, who
won a majority of the U.S. Catholic vote despite differences
with the Vatican on abortion. On his fourth day in office last
month, Obama ended a ban on funds for international groups that
perform abortions or provide information on the option - a sharp
policy change from former President George W. Bush's Republican
administration. The Vatican's attempts to keep the Pelosi visit
low-profile displayed its obvious unease with the new U.S. administration.
Benedict and Bush had found common ground in opposing abortion,
an issue that drew them together despite their differences over
the war in Iraq. .. A short statement from the Vatican said the
pope "briefly greeted" Pelosi and did not mention any

- MAN KILLS SELF IN S.CALIFORNIA TELEVANGELIST'S CATHEDRAL

18, 2009 - GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - A man shot and killed himself
in front of a cross inside televangelist Robert H. Schuller's
Crystal Cathedral on Wednesday as a nearby volunteer told a group
of visitors about the church's suicide-prevention program, police
and church officials said. The man handed a note and his driver's
license to two ushers, walked to the cross and then shot himself
in the head as he appeared to be praying, Senior Pastor Juan
Carlos Ortiz said.
- The Orange County coroner's office identified the man as
Steve Smick, 48. Church spokesman Mike Nason said there was no
record of Smick being a member at the cathedral. Betty Spicer,
a volunteer usher at the famous sanctuary, said she greeted Smick
when he entered. She said he handed her a folded note with two
cards inside as the man told her: "You may want this."
Spicer said he then walked to the foot of the cross. She and
Yvette Manson, another volunteer, said they thought Smick was
praying when they heard a pop. The man used a semiautomatic handgun,
