Junior's Doctrinal Statement
JDM believes...
 ...in
the divine inspiration of the Bible (2Ti 3:16, 2Pet 1:19-21),
and therefore, its absolute uniqueness, inerrancy, truthfulness,
and authority (Ps 18:30, 19:7, Pr 30:5,6, Jn 17:17, 2Pet 1:19-21).
...in the triunity of God;
that He is one God (Deu 6:4, 1Co 8:4-6), and in that oneness
He exists eternally in three co-equal persons (Gen 1:26, Mt 28:19)--the
Father (Php 2:11), the Son (Heb 1:8), and the Holy Spirit (2Co
3:17,18).
...that God's primary and highest
purpose is to bring glory, honor, and pre-eminence to Himself
(Num 14:21, Ps 72:19, Isa 42:8, Hab 2:14, Mt 6:9,10, Jn 17:4,5,
Ro 11:36).
...that Jesus Christ was born
of a virgin woman named Mary, the result of a miraculous conception
in her womb by the Holy Spirit and not by man (Isa 7:14, Mt 1:18-25).
Therefore, He was without a fallen sin nature (Heb 7:26) and
lived a perfectly sinless earthly life (Isa 53:9, Heb 4:15, 7:26,
1Pet 2:22).
...that Jesus was both fully
God and fully human while upon the earth (Php 2:5-8, Heb 2:14,17).
His humanity gave him a genuine taste of the human experience
(Jn 4:6, 11:35, Heb 2:14,17,18), requiring His full dependence
on the Father through the Holy Spirit (Mt 12:28, Lk 4:1,14, 5:16,
22:41-44, Jn 6:57, 12:49,50, 14:10, 17:4, Ac 10:38).
...that Jesus' miracles were
literal and actual (Jn 14:11, 21:24,25).
- ...that Jesus' death and bloodshed
on the cross was and is the only sufficient atonement for the
sins of fallen humanity (Ps 49:7-9, Ro 3:23-25, 1Jn 2:2), the
only medium of reconciliation between sinful humanity and a holy

like to introduce ourselves. George and Rita Williams founded
this ministry. We were Mormons (Temple Mormons) for 20 years.
We prayed to God in 1992 to allow us to do a ministry speaking
out against Scientology. Six months later God led us to the truth:
out of the cult of Mormonism. We did not know at the time we
were in a cult. No-one had witnessed to us in 20 years.
- The Holy Spirit brought us to information about all the cults
and the present development of the New World Order. We began
bringing our research to you. Because all the research was already
done, we decided to build a library within Cephas Ministry. Our
newsletters are not designed to provoke
anger which is strictly prohibited in Scripture. It is to shed
light on activities by those who would deceive those who are
recorded in the Book of Life by devious methods and systematic
plans.
- We are Bible students and have left all worldly organizations.
We attend church if the message is from the authorized KJV Bible.
The focus of these newsletters is to prove why we had to leave
the world system. We are called 'Watchmen on the Wall' which
God always had during the Old / New Testament Times.

- The first section is about the church.
The news about churches is unedited unless indicated by Ednotes.
The church as we knew it, is undergoing disintegration. This
began on a fast track in the early nineteen sixties when the
Catholic Church produced liberal Vatican II to replace Vatican
I.
- The trend since then has been ecumenical which is truly what
the word 'Catholicism' means: a universal religion all
inclusive and multicultural. The Bible calls for a final church
and today's church doesn't resemble what Jesus taught. The Word
of God has undergone many changes to fit the progressive modes.
Many new Bible tranlations have brought confusion. The Bible
calls for a falling away from the truth before
Jesus comes back for His Bride. The true believers are called
'Ekklesia.' Our newsletters prove this fact and prove that the
Bible is true from beginning to end.
- The second section is about globalism
where we bring your attention to the social, political and global
trend, the so called democratizing what is left of the world.
This is a deception since the underlying new world global government
is developed by implementing sustainable development. The
Bible prophesies that there will be ten kings (ten horns), each
king (horn) will receive a region of the world as a reward for
work well done for the Antichrist. This is the reason for the
present development of NAU (The North American Union) as well
as the war in the Middle East. It again proves that we are moving
to closure of the times of the Gentiles prophesied in the Bible.
The end result will not be Democracy but a form of Fascist Communism
(Public/Private Corporations enslaving mankind).
- The third section compliments End Time
teachings because Israel is the time piece of the Biblical Prophecy.
1948 was the beginning of the figtree representing Israel, coming
back to life. Israel was allowed to return to its land. Israel
is the rock upon which the world stumbles and crumbles. We watch
and visit Israel for signs which point to the Tribulation to
confirm that we are moving into that space of time.

has created but especially those who love our Lord and Savior,

 SCRIPTURE STUDY - HOW DO
I POSSESS THE HIGH PLACE?
 Own the promise.
We will not pursue what we think we should not have. We are heir
to the high places of the earth. Own the scriptures from the
previous paragraph. The more you reflect on them, the more a
holy aggression will heat up within you to subdue the high place
God intends. Own your inheritance!
Obey the command.
It's more than a promise, it's a command. Israel was ordered
to destroy the high places of the enemy (Num 33:52, Deu 12:2,
Ps 150). Hezekiah did so (2Ki 18:4), also Josiah (23:19,20).
Proverbs 21:22: A wise man attacks the city of the mighty and
pulls down the stronghold in which they trust. You and I are
under orders to pull down the enemy's high place and replace
it with a kingdom high place. Manasseh did such high place replacement
(2Chr 33:17).
Know your God.
Amos, Micah, and Nahum all saw God treading the high places of
the earth (Am 4:13, Mic 1:3,4, Nah 1:5). If we know and intimately
bond our souls with God daily, we also will tread the high places.
His nature and being will possess us and possess through us.
Pray and fast for it.
Start praying and fasting deliberately for a high place, even
if you're not sure of your field. Pray Isaiah 64:1-3. Isaiah
58 hails the results of fasting, one of which is the Lord causing
us "to ride on the heights of the land" (v14).
Speak God's Word.
God Word in your mouth, His voice in your voice, subdues the
high place. Psalm 29 says the voice of the Lord "is over
the waters" and "powerful" and "breaks the
cedars" and "strikes with flashes of lightning"
and "strips the forests bare". Psalm 138:2 (NIV) says
God has exalted above all things His name and Word. Ecclesiastes
8:4 says "a king's word is supreme". God told Joshua
he would possess the land if only he never stopped speaking the
Word.
Declare God's Word privately and daily. Declare it within the
environment you seek to possess, at the right time and in the
right way. Weave it indirectly into conversations--it will still
have the same overcoming effect. Micah 6:1: Stand up, plead your
case before the mountains; let the hills hear what you have to
say.
Grow in godliness.
Isaiah 33:15,16 says the godly and honest believer "will
dwell on the heights...the mountain fortress". The height
we seek to possess is beyond our present character. If we grow
in godliness, though, when our character matches the high place
requirement the mountain will be given us.
Watch for the hand up.
Mark 3:13 says Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to
Himself twelve disciples. See the symbolism. Jesus is already
on our mountain. He will call us up the mountain and set
us in place through certain people. Watch for the hand up! Look
for your Mark 3:13 ascension.
Be wild!
Psalm 104:18 says "the high mountains belong to the wild
goats" (also Job 39:1). To possess the high place, you must
be a wild goat! You have to get over some reservations and insecurities.
You have to abandon some comfort zones. You have to break out
of the social box and be a bit adventurous. The high mountains
belong to wild goats!
Find your calling and get good at it.
Daniel went high in Babylon because he was masterful at interpreting
dreams. Esther won Xerxes' passion for a queen because she was
a bombshell beauty. Cornelius became centurion because he was
adept in military. This is practical Christianity folks. Find
your calling and get good at it. Is it to be a lawyer? Mechanic?
Model? Schoolteacher? Speaker? Actor? Clergy? Whatever it is,
find it and be good! Learn, train, practice, study, observe,
ask--daily.
Check this scripture out, Proverbs 12:24: Diligent hands will
rule, but laziness ends in slave labor. Did you hear that? Diligent

- THE LAND WHERE GOD WALKED AS A MAN
- Part Two by Nicholas Stivers - an in depth report on his
trip to Israel - Dead Sea Region and more.
- "... Traveling north to the Dead Sea region one notices
a seemingly barren wasteland of dust, volcanic basalt formations
intermingled with camel colored sandstone outcroppings, some
with caves visible. Though at times we seemed to be traveling
upwards through a mountainous region, we actually were descending
from sea level to the lowest dry earth region on our planet –
the Dead Sea. Located more than 1400 feet below sea level, both
Jordan and Israel share the rich mineral wealth the Dead Sea
provides. Phosphates, salts, magnesium and other minerals are
extracted from the Dead Sea’s former levels. As we approached
the southernmost part of the Dead Sea we saw a large mining operation
with huge mounds of white salts and phosphates outside the processing
plant. Passing through the area, Hela discusses the locations
of Sodom and Gomorrah being just to the east of us across the
Jordanian boarder and just south of the Dead Sea. She talked
briefly about the fate of the two cities and described for us
a possible scenario about their destruction. Surprised that I
didn’t hear her make the correlation between the fire and
brimstone accounts of Old Testament and the rich magnesium deposits
known to exist all around the Dead Sea, I offered a plausible

- 'SURPRISE VERSES' LANDED MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL IN
CATHOLICISM
- Ednote: This email was very interesting and caused quite
a discussion in our office. It might serve the same purpose on

for some years and apparently moved from one denomination to
another and suddenly began to realize that he had not really

converts to the Catholic Church is the discovery of verses "we
never saw." Even after years of studying, preaching, and
teaching the Bible, sometimes from cover to cover, all of a sudden
a verse "we never saw" appears as if by magic and becomes
an "Aha!" mind-opening, life-altering messenger of
spiritual "doom"! Sometimes it’s just recognizing
an alternate, clearer meaning of a familiar verse, but often,

Artist creates messianic parade as 'adorers' wave palm fronds

– Amid the pomp, circumstance and celebration of welcoming
a new president, an artist in Iowa created an inaugural parade
sure to draw attention, even hundreds of miles from Washington,
D.C.: Barack Obama, riding on a donkey, complete with waving
palm fronds and "Secret Service" escort. As WND reported,
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan declared in October that
when Obama talks, "the Messiah is absolutely speaking."
But artist Matthew J. Clark's parade – marching Obama through
the streets of Des Moines in similar fashion to Jesus' triumphal
entry into Jerusalem – takes the messianic imagery even
farther.
- The Bible describes Jesus' procession into Jerusalem in the
21st chapter of Matthew as the fulfillment of the prophet Zechariah's
words, "Behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and
having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass," or as
the New International Version paraphrases, "gentle, and
riding on a donkey." As the celebrated Messiah entered the
city, the Bible also tells of adorers spreading their cloaks
at Jesus' feet and waving palm fronds. Fred Love, a reporter
for Lee Enterprises whose account was published by the Waterloo-Cedar
Falls Courier, witnessed a strange sight earlier this week, as
a sculpture of Obama marched down Des Moines' Locust Street in
similar fashion. "Progressing slowly down Locust and holding
up traffic was a rubbery Barack Obama sculpture saddled on the
back of a donkey," Love writes. "A pair of black SUVs
led the procession and two more trailed behind, Secret Service-style.
A couple of the SUVs were decked out with tiny American flags."

A Powerful Ecumenical Bond. The Mass or Eucharist is the highpoint
of mysticism in the Roman Catholic Church. As we shall see in
the chapter on “A Description of Roman Catholic Monasticism,”
it was the very heart and soul of ancient Catholic monastic mysticism
and it remains so today. The monks and nuns center their lives
on the Mass. What could be more mystical than touching God with
your hands and taking Him into your very being by eating him
in the form of a wafer? In the Mass the strangely-clothed, mysterious
priest (ordained after the order of Melchisedec) pronounces words
that mystically turn a wafer of unleavened bread into the very
body of Jesus. The consecrated wafer, called a host (meaning
victim) is eaten by the people. On some occasions one larger
host is placed in a gaudy metal holder called a monstrance to
be worshipped (“adored”) as God. This is called Eucharistic

- BEWARE OF 'TWILIGHT SAGA'

is adapted from the report 'Occultic Twilight Movie Praised by
Christian Groups' by Caryl Matrisciana: The Twilight Saga is
a series of novels by Stephenie Meyer describing an illicit romance
between a teenage girl and a vampire. The four books have sold
more than 17 million copies, been translated into 20 languages,
and spun off a new movie that grossed $70 million in its first
week. Twilight has become a pop culture phenomenon hotter than
Pottermania, promoting midnight release parties and vampire proms,
obsessed fans called Twi-hards, and spawning more than 350 fan
sites online that claim more than 100 million hits. The series
is about a sophomore teenage girl named Bella who moves to a
new town and falls in love with a handsome vampire named Edward.
Though 108 years old, he appears to be 17. The story is about
their intoxicating infatuation for each other and the consequences
of a lustful vampire/mortal romance. Edward is a member of a
'coven' of vampire family members that are depicted as 'good.'
The shocker is that many Christians are attracted to this spiritually
dysfunctional romance and are attempting to give Christian applications
to its demonic premise.
- No matter how resplendent the 'vampire' is portrayed in mythology
and fiction, in Scripture blood drinking and creatures of darkness
are judged as despicable by God. Distortion of the purpose of
blood is a satanic mockery of God’s intent for the sacredness
blood represents. Scripture teaches, "Only be sure that
thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life..." (Deut.
12:23) and in the shedding of blood is the remission of sins.
Meyer 'received' the story of Twilight in a dream on June 2,
2003. The vision compelled her to start writing the story immediately.
She says she had an additional dream after Twilight was finished
when her vampire character Edward came to speak to her.
- Her latest novel, The Host, is about demon possession. The
Twilight books and movie have been recommended by the Christian
Stay at Home Moms website, Focus on the Family’s Plugged

- TWILIGHT - AN ASSAULT ON THE ATONING BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST

- Why "Twilight" is spiritually fatal, and what it
shows us about the state of Christian youth. "... they will
turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside unto
fables." (2 Timothy 4:4)
- If someone would have told me 25 years ago, that one day
a popular series of "vampire romance" books would be
accepted and promoted by evangelical ministries, I wouldn't have
been able to believe it. That's why I was shocked to read this
article by Christian documentarian and researcher, Caryl Matrisciana
& Paul Villanueva, click here which documents the glowing
reviews of the occult book series by evangelical publications
such as: Campus Life, Focus on the Family, Christianity Today,
Christian Teen, and Christian Stay at Home Moms Magazine. All
gave glowing testimonials, and some even suggested that the "Twilight"
series could become the basis for Bible discussions and studies!
My purpose isn't to merely echo Caryl Matrisciana & Paul
Villanueva's excellent article, exposing the occult roots of
this book series. Rather, I have a burden to show you why I believe
that this literature could have a completely soul deadening effect
on those who are fascinated by its dark vision. First of all,
consider what the 'vampire' myth really is--nothing less than
an obscene parody of the precious gift of God--which is eternal
life through the Son of God, Jesus Christ, and by the gift of
His blood, offered to God for us. To God, blood is sacred, those
who drink it are an utter abomination to Him, because of what
blood represents. We obtain eternal life by accepting in faith
our share of the offering of the blood of Jesus, termed precious
by God, ... As of a lamb without blemish and without spot (I
Peter 1:19). In the pagan myth, 'vampires' are those who obtain
'immortality' by sucking other's blood. The 'immortality' they
gain, is literally a damned existence. They live in the night,
they cannot endure light, they feed on the blood of innocence.
Far from just a harmless thrill, Vampirism is the basis for all
sorts of pagan spiritualities. Blood drinking and blood sacrifice

January 27 2009 -  Ted Haggard liked
and trusted Alexandra Pelosi. The once-powerful evangelical leader
had become friendly with the HBO filmmaker when she was making
a documentary about evangelicals in 2005, even taking Pelosi
and her husband camping at one point and teaching them how to
shoot rifles. So when Pelosi called Haggard after he was ousted
from his church following a gay sex scandal, he was delighted
to hear from her. She visited frequently, often filming the disgraced
pastor with her hand-held camera, footage she said she wouldn't
use unless he was comfortable with it. Haggard was less than
thrilled a year later when Pelosi told him she had made a movie
about his exile.
- "We were enjoying our privacy," he said. "As
the months were passing, we were increasingly able to go to Wal-Mart
without being watched. So I told Alexandra that we were not going
to be comfortable with it and that I was not happy because I
thought she had violated her word." Pelosi initially shelved
the movie. But she was unrepentant about making it.
- "As a friend, I wanted to tell his side of the story,"
she said. "I thought the media had done a disservice to

"Tom" of a recent interview of Williams by Gianni Hayes
I listened to the Reverend Lindsey Williams on American Voice
Radio, hosted by Ms. Gianni Hayes. Some people will recognize
his name, some won't. I am not going to go into a lengthy bio.
You will have to do that research yourself, assuming you even
have an interest. I will only mention that he is the man who,
because of his contacts in the oil industry, correctly predicted
that the world price for oil would fall from roughly $140.00
per barrel to less than $50.00 per barrel. He claims to be well
connected to what he calls "the power elite," and I
firmly believe that he is telling the truth. But, what he calls
the power elite is just one level of corporate America. He interacted
with the high paid servants of the oil industry. That would be
the executives of ARCO and other big oil companies when he served
as chaplain for the Alaska pipeline. He knows and admits that
the "real power" is much further up the food chain.
Bottom line? Personally, as far as I am concerned, Reverend Williams
character and credibility are unimpeachable. I think it is very
important to pay attention to what he has to say. After two hours
of interview I had four legal pages of notes. I am going to relate
as best I can the highlights of that interview. Some of you will
get duplications because some of you are on more than one of
my mailing lists. Please understand. I consider this matter to
be extremely important! This will be rough, since it will be
stream of consciousness, right off of my note pad. But it is
the message that is important and not the delivery.
- 1. The reason why the "elite" dropped the world
price of oil down below $50.00 a barrel was to wage economic
warfare against the Arab/ OPEC countries. "They" seek
to bankrupt OPEC countries., especially the Iranians by cutting
their revenues more than 75%. (Do you think that is why Mr. Chavez
is so belligerent towards the USA?) Why would they do that? Because
Iran and the other OPEC states are getting too strong and too
wealthy. The Iranians are running an oil bourse, that effectively
sidesteps the oil markets of New York and London. (My note. Even

such as the Euro. This is a direct threat to the western banking

FATHER GUILTY OVER RITUAL BEATING
The police investigated after the boy's mother made a complaint
- 30 January 2009 BBC - A taxi driver has been convicted of cruelty
for encouraging his 10-year-old son to whip himself during a
Shia Muslim ceremony.  The boy took part
in zanjeer matam, in which believers beat themselves with a wooden
implement with chains and blades attached to it. His father,
47, who also took part in the ritual at a Birmingham mosque,
said he acted out of "love" and "devotion".
He was given a six-month suspended sentence at Huntingdon Crown
Court. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had denied
being cruel to a child. He is the second Muslim to be convicted
of cruelty as a result of allowing a boy take part in the ceremony
which commemorates the death and martyrdom of a 7th Century Muslim
leader, prosecutors said. What he did, it is very clear, was
out of devotion Mozammel Hossain, defending Mozammel Hossain,
defending the father, from Rugby in Warwickshire, said that his
client now knew that allowing a child to beat himself was illegal
in the UK and he would not allow it to happen again.  Mr
Hossain added that it was a ceremony his client had also taken
part in as a child.

to take part in the ritual in January 2007, when the man lived
in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

of Agape International Spiritual Center in Los Angeles, enthusiastically
agreed, giving Bacon a high-five. Bacon said that his mail ran
30-1 in favor of his position, and he characterized the protests
as 'mean- spirited.' To the unrepentant rebel, it is mean-spirited
and unloving to preach the Bible literally and to 'reprove, rebuke,
exhort' as God commands (2 Timothy 4:2). The Pharisees doubtless
thought Jesus was mean-spirited when He rebuked them for their

- THE FILM 'MEGIDDO' OFFENDS GOD TV?
- In November of last year, GOD TV contacted our ministry about
broadcasting “Megiddo:
The March to Armageddon,” and “Megiddo
II: The New Age.” They requested the work as is,
without any omissions or additions in editing. We were only
too happy agree under those conditions. At the time, we
knew almost nothing about GOD TV but learned from their website
that they had an international audience (United States, Europe,
Israel, Scandinavia, Africa, etc.,) and were broadcasting a series
of presentations on end time prophecy. It turns out that the
documentaries aired last month (Dec. 2008). Shortly afterward,
a man from the Ukraine called us to ask why we were exposing
Rick Joyner and Benny Hinn as false prophets, while GOD TV presents
them as “true” prophets. The man also gave us
the impression that others had been calling GOD TV with similar
questions. GOD TV apparently told them that we were “in
error” and that Benny Hinn/Rick Joyner were true men of
God. We have since learned that Hinn and Joyner are major
players in the GOD TV community, and it seems that whoever chose
the Megiddos did not fully review them before they aired!

alarmed by WND reports that the U.S. is only two state votes
away from having a new Constitutional Convention, has begun work
to make certain that if a convention is held, it would have to

It is unclear whether even a formal vote to withdraw a request
for a convention would have an impact or whether any limits could

it certainly would dampen the enthusiasm for a convention. Last

U.S. Constitution's "'problematic' provisions to reflect

wrote, according to KABC-TV. The station called police after
receiving the fax, and a police dispatch center also received
a call from a man who stated, "'I just returned home and
my whole family's been shot." ... Kaiser Permanente Medical
Center West Los Angeles released a statement confirming both
Lupoe and his wife worked there; both were medical technicians.
- "We are deeply saddened to hear of the deaths of the
Lupoe family," it said in a statement. In the letter he
faxed to a TV station, Ervin Lupoe claimed he and his wife both
had been fired and that she suggested they kill themselves and
their children, too. Police described the fax but did not release
the details. KABC reported that the man claimed in the fax that
a medical center administrator rebuffed them when they showed
up to work, told them to file a union grievance and said, "You

of the former president's reported $5.7 million in 2008 honoraria
came from foreign sources, including Kuwait's national bank,
other firms and groups in Canada, Germany, India, Malaysia, Mexico
and Portugal and a Hong Kong-based company that spent $100,000
on federal lobbying last year. Executives at many of the firms
that paid honoraria to Bill Clinton have also donated large amounts
of money to the Clinton Foundation, according to documents it

Clinton's nomination as secretary of state. That agreement was
aimed at preventing the appearance of any conflict of interest
between the ex-president's charitable organization and his wife's

Manna Storehouse. ODA and Lorain County Health Department agents
forcefully raided their home and unlawfully seized the family's
personal food supply, cell phones and personal computers. The
legal center seeks to halt future similar raids. The complaint

- January 27, 2009 A UN official says there is enough evidence
that former US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld could be brought
to justice for war crimes. The United Nations Special Rapporteur
on Torture Manfred Nowak in an interview on Monday told CNN that
the international body had enough evidence to prosecute Rumsfeld
for his direct authorization of tortures at US detention centers
in 2002. "We have clear evidence," Nowak said. "In
our report that we sent to the United Nations, we made it clear
that former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld clearly authorized
torture methods and he was told at that time by Alberto Mora,
the legal council of the Navy, 'Mr. Secretary, what you are actually
ordering here amounts to torture.' So, there we have the clear
evidence that Mr. Rumsfeld knew what he was doing but, nevertheless,
he ordered torture." The UN torture official earlier in
an interview with Germany's ZDF television had said that "I

- FED MOVES TO HELP DISTRESSED HOMEOWNERS

WASHINGTON - With U.S. foreclosures spiking, the Federal Reserve
is taking steps to try to keep some distressed borrowers
in their homes. Under the program, the Fed has a number of options
to provide relief, including lowering the amount the homeowner
owes on the mortgage, reducing the interest rate or lengthening
the term of the loan. It is unclear how many homeowners would
benefit. However, the relief plan would apply to the billions
of dollars of mortgage assets the Fed is holding on its books
because of last year's bailouts of Bear Stearns and insurer American
International Group. In general, a borrower must be at least
60 days delinquent to qualify for help, although the Fed
has leeway to make some exceptions. A 2008 law that set up the
$700 billion bailout fund instructed the Fed to take
such foreclosure relief action. "The goal of the policy
is to avoid preventable foreclosures on residential mortgage
assets that are held, owned or controlled by a Federal
Reserve Bank," Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke wrote in
a letter Tuesday to Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House
Financial Services Committee. Bernanke has repeatedly urged Congress
and - more recently - the administration of President Barack
Obama to ramp up efforts to curb home foreclosures, which are
aggravating the economy's problems. The new administration is
examining ways to stem foreclosures. Sen. Chris Dodd, chairman
of the Senate Banking Committee, welcomed the Fed's program and
called it "an important advance."
- The Fed's Bear Stearns' portfolio is valued at $27 billion,
although the central bank doesn't say how much of that is in
home mortgages. The Fed's AIG assets include one portfolio valued
at nearly $20 billion of residential mortgage-backed securities
and a second portfolio valued at nearly $27 billion of collateralized
debt obligations, which are complex financial instruments that
combine various slices of debt. More than 2.3 million homeowners
faced foreclosure proceedings last year, a whopping 81 percent
increase from 2007. And more than 860,000 properties accross
the U.S. were actually repossessed by lenders last year, more
than double the 2007 level, according to RealtyTrac, a California-based
foreclosure listing firm. Nevada, Florida, Arizona and California
had the highest foreclosure rates last year. Housing, credit
and financial crises - the worst since the 1930s- have plunged
the country into a recession, now in its second year. So far,

at 54 percent, are losing ground quickly to other religious affiliations
that make up today's diverse American population, according to
a recently published study by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public
Life. Using data for Congress from Congressional Quarterly, the
Pew study shows Catholics to be the single largest religious
group, accounting for 30 percent of lawmakers who will take office
on Jan. 6. Protestants, collectively, are broken into more than
a dozen denominations, including Baptists, Methodists, and Presbyterians.
They constitute 51.3 percent of the U.S. adult population, compared
with 24 percent of all the U.S. population who profess to be
Catholic. The study, entitled “Faith on the Hill,”
shows the 111th Congress to be the most diverse in more than
half a century and finds that Catholics, Jews, and Mormons are
among religious groups better represented in Congress than in
the nation as a whole. Baptists, who account for 17 percent of
the American population, make up 12 percent of the new Congress,
followed by Jews (8 percent of Congress; 2 percent of the population),

peso fell for a second day after U.S. consumer confidence unexpectedly
slid to a record low, signaling demand for Mexican exports from
its biggest trading partner may further erode. Mexico’s
currency has lost nearly a third of its value over the
past six months and dropped to a record low this month. In
an effort to stem the currency’s decline, the central bank
bought $322 million worth of pesos at an auction today. “The
peso’s weakness will continue,” said Jaime Ascencio,
a fixed-income strategist in Mexico City at Actinver SA, the
country’s biggest independent money manager. “There
is a lot of risk aversion and negative economic data coming out
of the U.S.” The peso declined 1.2 percent to 14.2329 per
dollar at 5 p.m. New York time, from 14.073 yesterday. It earlier
weakened to as low as 14.2573 per dollar, within 0.6 percent
of a record low. Banco de Mexico today bought pesos at an average
weighted price of 14.2167 pesos per dollar. It has purchased
$16.2 billion worth of its own currency since October to stem
a rout. The U.S. Conference Board’s index of consumer confidence
fell to 37.7 in January from a revised 38.6 in December, the
New York-based private research group said. Economists forecast
confidence would rise to 39, according to the median projection

its lowest level against the dollar since September 1985 and
a record low versus the yen on speculation the U.K. government
will nationalize banks.
- The British currency dropped for a fourth day against the
euro after Bank of England Governor Mervyn King said in a speech
yesterday the central bank may start buying assets within weeks
after cutting the main rate to the lowest level since 1694. The
pound fell as much as 2.2 percent to $1.3622, before trading
at $1.3678 by 5:16 p.m. in London. It tumbled 3.6 percent to
120.47 yen, from 125.01 yen yesterday. It reached an all-time
low of 119.42 yen. Against the euro, the pound depreciated to
94.15 pence, from 92.62 pence, after weakening to 94.30 pence

- ROUBINI PREDICTS U.S. LOSSES MAY REACH 3.6 TRILLION

financial losses from the credit crisis may reach $3.6 trillion,
suggesting the banking system is “effectively insolvent,”
said New York University Professor Nouriel Roubini, who predicted
last year’s economic crisis. “I’ve found that
credit losses could peak at a level of $3.6 trillion for U.S.
institutions, half of them by banks and broker dealers,”
Roubini said at a conference in Dubai today. “If that’s
true, it means the U.S. banking system is effectively insolvent
because it starts with a capital of $1.4 trillion. This is a
systemic banking crisis.” Losses and writedowns at financial
companies worldwide have risen to more than $1 trillion since
the U.S. subprime mortgage market collapsed in 2007, according
to data compiled by Bloomberg.
- President Barack Obama will have to use as much as $1 trillion
of public funds to shore up the capitalization of the banking
sector, following the $350 billion injection by the Bush administration,
Roubini told Bloomberg News. Congress last year approved a $700
billion rescue fund, of which half remains to be disbursed. Bank
of America Corp., the largest U.S. bank by assets, posted a quarterly
loss of $1.79 billion last week, its first since 1991, and received
$138 billion in emergency government funds. Citigroup Inc. posted
an $8.29 billion fourth-quarter loss, completing its worst year,
and plans to split in two under Chief Executive Officer Vikram
Pandit’s plan to rebuild a capital base eroded by the credit
crisis.
- ‘Bankrupt’ System
- “The problems of Citi, Bank of America and others suggest
the system is bankrupt,” Roubini said. “In Europe,
it’s the same thing.” Stocks in Europe, Canada and
Brazil dropped yesterday on speculation government efforts to
shore up the financial industry will fail to stem the deepening
global recession. The U.K.’s Royal Bank of Scotland Group
Plc said it expects to post a loss of as much as 28 billion pounds
($41 billion) for 2008 and the government got ready to raise
its stake in the lender. Oil prices will trade between $30 and
$40 a barrel all year, Roubini predicted. “I see commodities
falling overall another 15-20 percent,” Roubini said. “This
outlook for commodity prices is beneficial for oil importers,
it’s going to imply that economic recovery might occur faster,
but from the point of view of oil exporters, this will be very

their 2-year-old daughters asleep in a nearby room. Suddenly
they were shaken awake by the wail of police sirens and the rumble
of a helicopter above their suburban Southern California home.
A criminal must be on the loose, they thought. Doug Bates got
up to lock the doors and grabbed a knife. A beam from a flashlight
hit him. He peeked into the backyard. A swarm of police, assault
rifles drawn, ordered him out of the house. Bates emerged, frightened
and with the knife in his hand, as his wife frantically dialed
911. They were handcuffed and ordered to the ground while officers
stormed the house. The scene of mayhem and carnage the officers
expected was nowhere to be found. Neither the Bateses nor the
officers knew that they were pawns in a dangerous game being
played 1,200 miles away by a teenager bent on terrifying a random
family of strangers. They were victims of a new kind of telephone
fraud that exploits a weakness in the way the 911 system handles
calls from Internet-based phone services. The attacks - called
"swatting" because armed police SWAT teams usually
respond - are virtually unstoppable, and an Associated Press
investigation found that budget-strapped 911 centers are essentially
defenseless without an overhaul of their computer systems. The
AP examined hundreds of pages of court documents and law-enforcement
transcripts, listened to audio of "swatting" calls,
and interviewed two dozen security experts, investigators, defense
