We prayed to God in 1992 to allow us to do a ministry speaking
out against Scientology. Six months later God led us to the truth:

The church as we knew it, is undergoing disintegration. This
began on a fast track in the early nineteen sixties when the
Catholic Church produced liberal Vatican II to replace Vatican
I.
- The trend since then has been ecumenical which is truly what
the word 'Catholicism' means: a universal religion all
inclusive and multicultural. The Bible calls for a final church
and today's church doesn't resemble what Jesus taught. The Word
of God has undergone many changes to fit the progressive modes.
Many new Bible tranlations have brought confusion. The Bible
calls for a falling away from the truth before
Jesus comes back for His Bride. The true believers are called
'Ekklesia.' Our newsletters prove this fact and prove that the
Bible is true from beginning to end.
- The second section is about globalism
where we bring your attention to the social, political and global
trend, the so called democratizing what is left of the world.
This is a deception since the underlying new world global government
is developed by implementing sustainable development. The
Bible prophesies that there will be ten kings (ten horns), each
king (horn) will receive a region of the world as a reward for
work well done for the Antichrist. This is the reason for the
present development of NAU (The North American Union) as well
as the war in the Middle East. It again proves that we are moving
to closure of the times of the Gentiles prophesied in the Bible.
The end result will not be Democracy but a form of Fascist Communism
(Public/Private Corporations enslaving mankind).
- The third section compliments End Time
teachings because Israel is the time piece of the Biblical Prophecy.
1948 was the beginning of the figtree representing Israel, coming
back to life. Israel was allowed to return to its land. Israel
is the rock upon which the world stumbles and crumbles. We watch
and visit Israel for signs which point to the Tribulation to
confirm that we are moving into that space of time.

- INTRODUCTION
- To read this book requires love for the Gospel, if you don't
you might as well put it away because you'll simply think it
foolishness. The book proves that biblical truth is indeed truth
that sustains us. No matter what happens to us we land on our
feet and move on knowing we are only passing through. The world
is irrelevant. What is relevant is our eternal life, where we'll
spend it in heaven or hell. All human beings have eternal life
but where they will spend it is the question.
This book will reveal the resistance we are up against in our
enemy Satan who only works to undermine believers in Christ Jesus
because Satan knows where he is going and wants all of humanity
to join him. Those who already have sworn their allegiance to
Satan are no problem to him. Like Jesus Christ, who preached
only three years, was crucified because Satan hated Him, we become
the object of Satan's hatred as well. Had Jesus weakened and
let Satan tempt Him, He would have been King of this world for
a season and the whole world would have ended up in hell forever.
Every man, woman, and child's salvation hung on one man. To prove
to us that we can depend on Him forever, He weakened Himself
by fasting 40 days before He was confronted with the offer to
possess the whole world. If He was 100% human and 100% Spirit,
He experienced everything humans do, yet gave Himself to be humiliated,
be bled and died for our sakes who are completely undeserving
as you will see in this book.
God knows our lot, that we have no chance of making it to Heaven
on our own. We can try as hard as we want; Satan derails us at
every turn without God's intervention. Most of us believe that
we are good people and would not hurt anyone, go to church on
Sunday and earn our wages by the sweat of our brow. That is well
and good, but we tend to be rebels spiritually. We want to do
it our way instead of studying the Bible we read other books
and listen to evangelists in the hope that's going to get us

- IS THERE LIFE IN OUTER SPACE?
Updated August 13, 2009 (first published August 24, 1996) by

We received the following question from a reader: "There
is so much talk now about the possibility of life on Mars. Is
there anything in the Scripture that would confirm or deny the
existence of life on other planets OR is Scripture silent on
this point. If human life existed on other planets would Christ
have had to have died for them also?"
This is a good question and I would make the following seven
observations:
I would note, first of all, that there is no absolute evidence
of life on the planets or stars. This question has not passed
the stage of conjecture and theorizing. At the same time that
reports appeared which stated that some NASA scientists believe
a meteorite bears evidence that there was life on Mars, other
reports acknowledged that many scientists do not agree with these
conclusions. For example, geochemist Jim Papike, director of
the Institute of Meteoritics at the University of New Mexico,
testified that he and three colleagues have tested the meteorite
in question, and they have found that "it lacked a key sign
of biological activity" (Associated Press, August 9, 1996).
He stated, "We wanted to know if these pyrites in Martian
rocks would show this fingerprint of life that would be indicated
by a specific type of ratio. When we looked at the ratio, there
was no evidence that it was in a ratio for life forms."
In fact, he claims that the ratio points in the opposite direction
from the one that indicates biological activity. President George
W. Bush's 2003 budget report called for an increase in funding
for space exploration and expressed hope that evidence of life
in other parts of the universe will yet be found. The document
also contained the following admission, "Despite all the
space aliens that appear in science fiction movies and books,
we have yet to find conclusive evidence for life, even microbes,
anywhere in the universe besides Earth" ("Bush Budget
Gets Spacey, CBS News, Feb. 3, 2003).
It is foolish to be intimidated by the unproved conjectures of
scientists--particularly conjectures of evolutionary scientists
who need to justify spending millions of dollars of public funds
in the search for life in outer space.
Second, according to the Bible, HUMAN life has never existed
anywhere but on earth for these past 6,000 or so years. Adam
was the FIRST MAN--not the second or third man--of the old creation
(1 Cor. 15:47). Christ is the "second man," the Lord
from Heaven, who became the firstborn from the dead of the new
creation (Hebrews 2:6-10).
Third, according to the Bible, evolution is not true. Thus we
do not have to speculate about whether or not life has evolved
anywhere else in the universe. Any life that exists was created
by the one true God of the Bible, and was created for His purposes
and glory. The NASA personnel who quoted to us from Genesis chapter
one during the space flights two decades ago were wiser than
some today who think the Bible is a myth and have set about to
find evolutionary life somewhere out there in a Godless, meaningless
universe.
Fourth, according to the Bible, the planets and stars were created
in connection with this earth and for man's benefit (Genesis
1:14-19). The heavenly bodies exist "for lights to divide
the day from the night" and "for signs, and for seasons,
and for days, and years." The heavens also exist to "declare
the glory of God" (Psalm 19:1).
Fifth, according to the Bible, there IS life in outer space or
at least somewhere beyond this planet earth. There is God and
His glorious Heaven and the occupants thereof (Hebrews 12:22-23).
There is an innumerable company of angels. There are, first of
all, elect angels that did not follow the devil in the fall (1
Timothy 5:21). We know that these angels visit this earth and
do God's bidding and minister among men (Gen. 28:12; Psalm 148:2;
Matt. 26:53; Heb. 1:4-7). We know a little about these angels
from what the Bible tells us, but there is much that we do not
know. There are also fallen angels, Satan and his devils, which
are active on the earth and possibly in other realms (Eph. 6:12).
There is Hell and its occupants. There are the souls of men who
have died and gone either to heaven or to hell.
Sixth, the Bible does not tell us everything about the universe
and existence, but it does tell us everything we NEED to know
and it tells us everything God wants us to know about the mysteries
of life and about salvation. "The secret things belong unto
the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong
unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the
words of this law" (Deut. 29:29). This verse tells us that
there are secrets which are not revealed in Scripture. We must
wait until eternity to know more than the Bible tells us about
the secrets of God.
Seventh, in the final analysis, it simply does not matter if
there is life in outer space. Even if it could be proven for
100% certain that there has been or is some form of life in another
part of the universe (other than God and the angels and the souls
of men who have departed from this world), it would only mean
that God made that life for His purposes. It would also mean
nothing in regard to us and our lives here on earth. Each of
us is going to live his or her brief life, then go out into eternity
to stand before God, either saved or lost. The Bible says, "And
as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment"
(Heb. 9:27). Whether or not there is life on another planet will
not have any affect on my eternal destiny.
I say, then, that the Bible is infinitely superior to astronomy,
because there are two crucial things astronomy cannot do, but
which the Bible can do. One, astronomy can't give me salvation,
but the Bible can. "And that from a child thou hast known
the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation
through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 3:15).
Two, astronomy can't help me find the perfect will of God so
that I can live a life which pleases Him and thereby find reward
and fruitfulness. But the Bible can. "All scripture is given
by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man
of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works"
(2 Timothy 3:16,17).
I praise the Lord that the God of the wide and mysterious universe
loves sinners and has given us His Word that we might know and
serve Him in this life and forever. "And this is life eternal,
that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ,
whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3). http://www.wayoflife.org

- VERY ACCURATE BIBLE PREDICTION
1st time Israel was conquered by Babylon. They were freed again
after 70 years as predicted by Jeremiah.. a Prophet. Jeremiah
25:11 and this whole land shall be a desolation and astonishment.
and these nation shall serve the king of Babylon [B]seventy years.[/B]
Now.. Both biblical and secular history show Babylon captured
Israel in the spring of 606 bc and the capitivy ended exactly
70 years later in the spring of 536bc Now. read, go find, Ezekiel
4:5 and 4:6 It says, 430 years was the amount of years the Jewish
people would be put into exile for their iniquity and sins....
but before hand they were captive under babylon for 70 years.
so, this leaves 360. then in Leviticus 26:18 its stated the lord
will punish their sins 7 times over. 360 x 7= 2520 so because
they didn't repent.. it was timed by 7 and that 2520 was the
amount of years the Jews would be without a nation. now the Hebrew
calender was 360 days, NOT 365 days so the 2520 years actually
equal 2483 years for us. From here we subtract the amount of
years from the end of the Babylonian captivity, which was 536bc
as mentioned above... from 2,483.... the answer is 1948ad. The

lot of time has passed since my visit to the Zion Fitness Center.
It was a very interesting visit, indeed, and I really wanted
to start the training. Umfortunatelly under the pressures of
everyday life I forgot it. Despite of rare occasions of recollection
it stayed out of my mind untill I saw their advertisement. It
said like this: 'Now all the citizens! Inefficent muscles caused
by the easy living will be trained to heavenly shape by traditional
though effective work out. This method quarantees that every
dedicated trainee will have downright messianic muscles.' Can
you refuse this kind of offer! Certainly not. So I rustled up
my stuff, and headed toward Zion Fitness Center.
- My acquaintance, working in that gym, was there waiting for
me, and at first he guided me to the locker room where I changed
proper clothing: " Stand therefore, having girded your
waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel
of peace." (Eph.6:14,15) After changing my clothes I
was ready for challenges. My acquaintance guided me to the hall,
where people of various age, size and look made different types
of work outs. He told me that these people had chosen a hard
road, which gives though so much inner satisfaction and energy.
Besides disregard for these fitness issues inevitable causes
some serious consequensies concerning heath and constitution.
Specifically the experts are warning about carnal mind, which
has very serious consequencies: "For if you live according
to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death
the deeds of the body, you will live." (Rom 8:13) After
hearing this I really was glad about my decision to start training.
I followed my acquaintance with exitement when he introduced
me various types of equipments, and their effects on different
kind of mucles.

November 05, 2009 - NEW YORK - Oprah Winfrey is removing gospel
singer BeBe Winans from her show's "karaoke challenge"
until charges against him for allegedly pushing his ex-wife to
the ground are resolved.
- Winans appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last
week and was seen in promos for future appearances. Now he'll
be cut out of the segment, said Winfrey spokesman Don Halcombe
on Thursday.
- Winfrey was criticized by some bloggers this week for including
Winans after she had taken a strong stand against domestic violence
earlier this year. She did a show on the topic when singer Chris
Brown assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
- The daytime TV leader said at the time: "Domestic violence
is something that I wouldn't tolerate. Period."
- Halcombe would only say that the decision to eliminate Winans
was made this week. It was not clear if Winfrey had been aware
that Winans was charged with misdemeanor domestic assault in
the Feb. 13 incident, where Winans and his ex-wife Debra were
allegedly arguing about their children. Winans has a court date
set for Jan. 20.
- Winans' manager did not immediately return a telephone call
for comment.
- "Let's just not have a double standard on domestic violence
or even accusations of domestic violence," said Joni Reynolds,
a woman from the Baltimore area and author of a blog called Ebony
Mom Politics.
- She had called attention to Winans' participation and wondered
if Winfrey had overlooked the charges because the Winans were
friends or because there were no photos that had become public
as in Rihanna's case.
- Reynolds commended Winfrey for deciding to take Winans off

- If one were to diagram a SPIN organizational chart it would
not be a conventional box type configuration such as an army
company organization chart. Rather, it would resemble a fish-net
with interlocking nodes with groups linked to many other groups

Austin News.Net - July 23, 2009 - A jury deliberating the fate
of well-known American religious evangelist, Tony Alamo, is deliberating
on charges that Alamo transported young girls across state lines
for sex. Jurors have been discussing the case after US District
Judge Harry Barnes asked for a decision on a 10 count indictment.
At the end of court proceedings on Thursday, Barnes met the jurors
to answer some questions before allowing them to leave for the
day. Alamo, 74, is charged with taking five underage girls across
state lines for sex between 1994 and 2005 after supposedly marrying
them in a quasi-religious ceremony. Defence lawyers have claimed
the prosecutors have targeted Alamo because the government is
anti-Christian. Alamo has blamed the Vatican for his troubles
and refused to testify during his trial, saying he would not
testify in a court he saw as being unjust.

JURORS CONVICT EVANGELIST ON ALL 10 SEX COUNTS

- (AP) Tony Alamo, a one-time street preacher who became an
outfitter of the stars and fought the federal government over
claims he underpaid followers for church work, was convicted
Friday of taking five girls across state lines for sex.
- The jury of nine men and three women found Alamo guilty of
taking girls as young as 9 across state lines for sex, in violation
of a nearly century-old federal law. Alamo was accused in a 10-count
indictment that said the abuse started in 1994. Sentencing will
be in six to eight weeks.
- Women ranging from age 17 to 33 told jurors that Alamo "married"
them in private ceremonies while they were minors, sometimes
giving them wedding rings. Each detailed trips beyond Arkansas'
borders for Alamo's sexual gratification.

- Where is the media outrage over "the separation of church
and state?" In a story about why the U.S. Catholic Bishops
have embraced Democratic-style universal health care, the Los
Angeles Times noted that the Roman Catholic Church considers
healthcare a basic human right, "a position the church has
articulated since 1963, when it was included in a papal encyclical
by Pope John XXIII." Indeed, healthcare is declared a right
in the "Peace on Earth" encyclical. That is also the
basis of Obamacare. The group Catholic Democrats has hailed passage
of H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act of 2009,
and notes that the only House Republican voting for it, Representative
Joseph Cao of Louisiana, is a Catholic and former Jesuit seminarian.
"The Catholic Church has been at the forefront of advocating
for health care as a right for decades, including pastoral letters
issued by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in
1981 and 1993," the group notes. The evidence indicates
that the Bishops-and the Vatican itself-are calling the shots
behind the scene. In fact, as many media organizations are now
reporting, they engineered the "compromise" that deleted
abortion funding so the bill could pass the House. The Los Angeles
Times reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Catholic, not
only "conferred with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
to be sure the new restrictions were acceptable" but "consulted
by telephone with a cardinal in Rome."
- CNN reported that, as a deal was being made between Pelosi
and Catholic lobbyists, "Several Democrats, including Rep.
Jason Altmire, D-Pennsylvania, said they are in touch with their
Catholic Bishops back home. Altmire said he must have the approval
of his bishop in Pittsburgh before he can vote yes." Where
is the media outrage over "the separation of church and
state?" In this case, there is direct evidence of a foreign
entity, the Vatican, actually passing judgment on legislation
and, in effect, delivering votes for it. Few in the media, on
the left or right, want to raise the issue, apparently fearful
of being labeled "anti-Catholic." But the outcome of
the legislation in the House demonstrates that while the Republicans
don't have the votes to stop it, the Vatican has the votes to
pass it. Could the same thing happen in the U.S. Senate? It is
time for the major media to investigate how the officials of
a major religious denomination, with its headquarters in Rome,
are affecting the outcome of major pieces of legislation in the
Congress of the United States.
- This is a matter of great importance because government-guaranteed
"rights," in the Vatican's view, don't stop with health
care. Man, the papal "Peace on Earth" document said,
"has the right to bodily integrity and to the means necessary
for the proper development of life, particularly food, clothing,
shelter, medical care, rest, and, finally, the necessary social
services. In consequence, he has the right to be looked after
in the event of ill health; disability stemming from his work;
widowhood; old age; enforced unemployment; or whenever through
no fault of his own he is deprived of the means of livelihood."

Bill Donohue speaks to the way Catholics and Muslims are treated
in the upcoming film, "2012": When we got word recently
that the movie "2012" depicts the Vatican being blown
up, along with the famous statue from Rio, Christ the Redeemer,
we were unmoved. Why? Because this occurs during the end of the
world in a massive destruction. This kind of sensationalism,
we reasoned, is standard fare for director Roland Emmerich: he
is the guru of the "blow 'em up" genre of movies. But
now we've learned that while Catholics get theirs, Muslims are
spared. Out of fear, of course.
- Emmerich is more than a coward-he is a liar who has it out
for Catholics. Last year, he was quoted saying, "I would
like to erase all nations and religions." Not true. He is
quite content to live with Islam, even though he readily admits
it is a religion of terror. When asked why he did not show the
destruction of Kaaba, the religious structure in the Grand Mosque
in Mecca, he said, "I wanted to do that, I have to admit.
You can actually let Christian symbols fall apart, but if you
would do this with [an] Arab symbol, you would have...a fatwa."
- So why was the Sistine Chapel designated for destruction?
"We have to show how this gets destroyed....I am against
organized religion." Emmerich lies again. He is not against
Islam. After bragging that the movie shows the Sistine Chapel
falling on people's heads, Emmerich explains the moral of the
story: "Never pray in front of a big church. Pray by yourself."
He lies again: Muslims who want to pray in front of a mosque
are safe. That's because, as Emmerich sees it, they're known
to kill those who offend their religion. Every time I say Hollywood
hates Christianity, especially Catholicism, my critics cringe.
But they never offer evidence that I'm wrong.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington said Wednesday that it
will be unable to continue the social service programs it runs
for the District if the city doesn't change a proposed same-sex
marriage law, a threat that could affect tens of thousands of
people the church helps with adoption, homelessness and health
care.
- Under the bill, headed for a D.C. Council vote next month,
religious organizations would not be required to perform or make
space available for same-sex weddings. But they would have to
obey city laws prohibiting discrimination against gay men and
lesbians.
- Fearful that they could be forced, among other things, to
extend employee benefits to same-sex married couples, church
officials said they would have no choice but to abandon their
contracts with the city.
- "If the city requires this, we can't do it," Susan
Gibbs, spokeswoman for the archdiocese, said Wednesday. "The
city is saying in order to provide social services, you need
to be secular. For us, that's really a problem."
- Several D.C. Council members said the Catholic Church is
trying to erode the city's long-standing laws protecting gay
men and lesbians from discrimination. The clash escalates the
dispute over the same-sex marriage proposal between the council
and the archdiocese, which has generally stayed out of city politics.
- Catholic Charities, the church's social services arm, is
one of dozens of nonprofit organizations that partner with the
District. It serves 68,000 people in the city, including the
one-third of Washington's homeless people who go to city-owned
shelters managed by the church. City leaders said the church
is not the dominant provider of any particular social service,
but the church pointed out that it supplements funding for city

apparatus to produce Christian votes. Catholics in Alliance for
the Common Good was a key element in this overall strategy. Catholics
in Alliance for the Common Good (CACG) was founded in 2005. Alexia
Kelly is the director and claims to be the principle founder,
but many individuals have worked to build this organization.
The CACG and other similar political organizations, such as Catholics
United, Pax Christi, Network, Center of Concern, Just Faith,
and Call to Action work closely together and share leadership.
Their direction and affiliations however extend well beyond these
Catholic-focused groups to Democrat party operatives and funding
sources, Unions, Catholic leadership universities and charity
organizations, national politicians, and now the White House.
- In 2004, Kelly served as religious outreach coordinator for
the Kerry campaign. Working at the DNC that year, she attempted
to neutralize abortion as a Catholic election issue. Prior to
CACG Kelly worked for Chris Korzen at the Catholic Campaign for
Human Development. The CCHD was notable last year for their annual
contributions to ACORN, the inner-city action group that prompted
so many investigations for false voter registrations and fraud.

and I knew that we were risking arrest on the National Day of
Prayer if prayed in front of the White House. This is one three
places where it is illegal to pray in America - a public school
classroom, on the steps of the United States Supreme Court and
in front of the White House. However, we are living in a time
when Christians must be bold like Daniel and let people see them
praying when it becomes illegal to do so. Keep in mind that the
current administration, like many California schools, have not
problem with religious activities, just Christian activities
and prayer. We started the day with a message to those around
us that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, BHO is not. That
was fine. However when we knelt to pray, that was the activity
that put everything in action. Yellow tape went into place and
people were ordered to leave the restricted area. We received
three warnings to cease and desist. Someone in the White House
ordered the water sprinklers to be turned even though there was
overcast and it had rained earler. We got wet but we kept on
praying. After we were handcuffed the water sprinklers were turned
off. In the paddy wagon, it was revival. It was as if Jesus was

- There are things that are happening in this nation that 50
years ago would have been unthinkable to the average American
citizen, especially Christians. We are moving towards the day
that church sanctuaries will taken by imminent domain rulings
to put up buildings for tax revenue. When they tried to shut
down that home Bible study in California, it was not a fluke;
their timing was just off -- it was too soon. Regardless what

scandal which occurred this morning at Boston's most historic
Catholic shrine --- the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual
Help, known as Mission Church --- where a Mass of Christian Burial
was used to "celebrate the life" of one of America's
most notorious opponents of Catholic morality, the late Senator
Edward M. Kennedy. Senator Kennedy fought for more than three
decades to keep the killing of pre-born children legal and unrestricted
in the United States. Surgical abortion has claimed more than
fifty-one million human lives since 1973. The Catholic religion
defines abortion as an "abominable crime".
- President Barack Obama delivered the eulogy, in which he
alluded to Kennedy's support for gay rights. One of the Prayers
of the Faithful was a petition to end divisions "between
gays and straights". Ecclesial participants included Rev.
Raymond Collins, Rector of the Basilica; Rev. Mark Hession, Kennedy's
parish priest from Our Lady of Victories Church in Centerville

military, but it now includes an amendment that would give special
protections to individuals based on their "perceived or
actual" sexual orientation and gender identity. Wendy Wright,
President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), states, "The
point of the 'hate crimes' amendment is to create a special class
of victims that would get preferential treatment. 'Hate crimes'
laws contradict the 14th Amendment to the Constitution and create
unequal justice by elevating some groups of victims at the expense
of others. Victims who engage in homosexual, transgender, or
other sexual behavior get special treatment over victims who
are military officers, police officers or veterans. How offensive
to add special preferences for homosexuals and transgender people
to a Department of Defense funding bill but deny that to members
of the military -- especially in the wake of a deadly shooting
at a military recruiting station and an overall increase in violence

sent out a new round of letters today to some of the nation’s
most high-profile televangelists, urging them to turn over key
financial records. The senators told the ministries that they
want to know how their “non-profit organizations are structured
and operate,” amid allegations that some of the televangelists
have misused church funds to enrich themselves. One of the letters
was mailed today to televangelists Randy and Paula White, who
founded the Without Walls International Church in Tampa 16 years
ago, calling it "the perfect church for people who are not."
After a month-long investigation, NBC News has learned that some
former staffers and members have left the Whites' church after
becoming disillusioned with its increasing focus on donations.
Several former Without Walls insiders with years of experience
working for the church told NBC News the same thing: in the past
few years, the church started to become more and more about making
money and fame for the Whites. They claim the Whites' constant
appeals for donated money has helped enrich the Whites themselves.

by the service. His funeral oration for the deceased senator
emphasised – with participation that was not only emotive
– work for the underprivileged, marked by the church’s
social doctrine, that had characterised Kennedy’s political
career. Obama’s words and the tone he spoke in implied genuine
syntony with those same principles as well as a commitment to
continue his legacy.

Just as important, the nation would have to have been created
in response to a covenant initiated by God with those who founded
it.

United States; they founded a small colony that eventually got
swallowed up by the states and the newly formed federal government.

- October 31, 2009 - Congratulating Reverend Martin Junge on
his election as General Secretary of influential Lutheran World
Federation (LWF), Hindus hope that he would promote interfaith
dialogue in the world.
- Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada
(USA) today, hoped that LWF under Junge would work for promoting
interfaith dialogue and cooperating in common causes such as
peace, ecological responsibility, social development, etc., with
different religions and denominations. Dialogue brought us mutual
enrichment and helped us overcome prejudices passed down to us
from previous generations, Zed added.
- Rajan Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism,
pointed out: “Religion is a complex component of human life.
Dialogue helps us to see interconnections and interdependencies

shared quest for the truth, we can learn from one another and

voted 559-441 Friday to allow churches to hire gay pastors in

to bless same-sex unions. The moves were welcomed by advocates
of full gay inclusion, but traditionalists were dismayed. Many
traditionalists speaking at the Churchwide Assembly predicted
it would split the denomination, much as more conservative Episcopal
congregations have left that denomination after the installation

- OBAMA'S INTERFAITH SCORE CARD
- Matthew Weiner - January 22, 2009 - Obama gets a "B"
for his first interfaith outing. Not bad for a beginner, so let's
give him an "A" for effort. First, let's look at the
things he did right. The service at the National Cathedral was
the first real religiously plural function of its kind. He included
a Muslim voice (Dr. Ingrid Mattson of the Islamic Society of
North America), in spite of attacks by the marginal but vocal
Jewish right wing. This will allow (yes, allow) more moderate
Jewish leaders to work with a wider range of Muslim citizens.
- A point less noticed was his progressive move to have a woman
Muslim leader. He also included a Hindu, again a woman. Dr. Uma
Mysorekar (president of the Hindu Temple Society of North America)
recently participated in a press conference with Hasidic Jews
and Muslims in response to the Mumbai massacre, and invited Muslims
to her prayer service directly after 9/11. These were the right
choices, not only to symbolize gender equality, but to show the
value of lay leadership within these religious communities. He
also was good to have Jews and Christians from many denominations,
demonstrating an awareness that a single Jewish or Christian
leader cannot possibly represent all Jews or Christians (as the
Rick Warren debacle aptly demonstrated).
- The reality of only one Muslim with so many doubles in the
other Abrahamic faiths is understandable, in terms of numbers
and precedent, but it's important to see why it is still a problem.
Shia an Sunni Muslims kill each other daily in Iraq. African
American Muslims make up the majority of Muslims in America,
and yet are regularly sidelined at such events. Our understanding
of Islam as a single community, who Obama spoke to in his address,
continues to perpetuate this illusion. But it was a good start.

CHICAGO'S INTERFAITH FUTURE: PRESIDENT OBAMA, EBOO PATEL AND
BEYOND
October 27, 2009 - Chicago has become the center of the interfaith
movement. It’s a not-so-micro microcosm of religious diversity.
It’s a place where Catholics, Jews, Jains, Muslims, Atheists,
Evangelicals and others live alongside each other in “a
city of neighborhoods,” as we like to say. These religious
groups find common ground through organizations like the Interfaith
Youth Core (IFYC), founded more than a decade ago by Chicagoan
Eboo Patel.
- The 33-year-old Indian-American is ready to turn religious
pluralism into a new norm, a societal standard. Like multiculturalism.
Like environmentalism. Like equal rights. The voices of hate
and religious discrimination have gotten too loud in Chicago
and all over the world, Patel says. We can’t let it continue
any longer. We have speak out and make change. The “we”
Patel refers to is a pretty powerful “we.” On Sunday,
he addressed 500 teens, young adults, clergy members and interfaith
advisers rallying together at the Interfaith Youth Core’s
annual conference, held at Northwestern University in Evanston.
Over the course of the three-day event, more than 1,000 people
from 90 schools, scattered all over the world, were said to participate.
Patel, in some ways, is like their superstar. He’s become
the guy for all things interfaith, serving as an adviser on faith
issues to President Barack Obama and gaining recognition this
week from the U.S. News and World Report as one of the Best Leaders
in America.
- The crowd at the conference applauds wildly when Patel takes
the stage, snapping photos with digital cameras and iPhones.
As Patel speaks, his eyes sweep the room and never once look
down at the small black notebook in front of him. He talks about
a vision for an interfaith future, and I’ll admit: I got
goosebumps.
- But what will the future of Chicago’s religious communities
be? How will the interfaith movement play out here?
- Patel and IFYC have formed a million-dollar partnership with
the Chicago Community Trust to address interfaith issues.
- “The issue of the 21st century is religious diversity
and pluralism,” said Terry Mazany, the president and CEO
of the trust. “This (partnership) has emerged to address
that top-level need, not only preventing a horrendous action,
but in fact tapping into the wellspring of goodwill and creativity”
among the city’s religious groups, who are its largest recipients
of philanthropic giving.
- On local college campuses, the interfaith movement may seem
to be well on its way:
- Loyola University regularly sponsors conferences and
academic discussions, including Globalization and the Common
Good—An Interfaith Perspective held last spring.
- DePaul University has two designated interfaith pastors
and a group, Interfaith@DePaul, that sponsors 3-4 events each
month.
- Northwestern has an interfaith dorm, a “living
and learning community,” where students can choose to intentionally
interact with people of other religious traditions on a day-to-day
basis.
- Still, these efforts represent a small proportion of the
student population, maybe 50 to 80 students each, Patel estimates.
“We want it to be the status quo on college campuses,”
he says.
- “And for those who don’t participate to feel guilty
about it,” added Mazany.
- IFYC, even with its intern program alone, has begun to shape
young leaders, people who won’t accept religiously discriminatory
language, close-mindedness or exaggerated stereotypes. These
20-somethings will be the civic leaders of the next generation.
At least that’s the hope.
- And speaking of hope…
- “The guy in the Oval Office was an interfaith leader
in Chicago 30 years ago,” Patel tells the conference
crowd, giving one example of the city’s long interfaith
history, highlighted with revolutionary leaders like Jane Addams,
the founder of the Hull House.
- “Back then the common good for him was Altgeld Gardens,”
he continues. “Now the common good for
him is planet earth.”
- Faith communities, from non-believers to Muslims, have applauded
Obama’s attention to religion and religious diversity in
his inaugural address (my see previous blog entry here) as well
as his speech from Cairo to Muslim countries (blogged about here).
But perhaps our president, with his roots in interfaith community-building,
could be doing more and saying more to address religious plurality
in America.
- “I’d love for him to say more,” says Patel,
who is a Muslim. “It has to be the spirit of our time.”
