(kjv)}   Who is Babylon the Great, the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth?   Commentary: Re 17:5       5. upon . . . forehead . . . name--as harlots usually had. What a contrast to "HOLINESS TO THE LORD," inscribed on the miter on the high priest's forehead!       mystery--implying a spiritual fact heretofore hidden, and incapable of discovery by mere reason, but now revealed. As the union of Christ and the Church is a "great mystery" (a spiritual truth of momentous interest, once hidden, now revealed, Eph 5:31-32), so the Church conforming to the world and thereby becoming a harlot is a counter "mystery" (or spiritual truth, symbolically now revealed). As iniquity in the harlot is a leaven working in "mystery," and therefore called "the mystery of iniquity," so when she is destroyed, the iniquity heretofore working (comparatively) latently in her, shall be revealed in the man of iniquity, the open embodiment of all previous evil. Contrast the "mystery of God" and "godliness," Re 10:7; 1Ti 3:16. It was Rome that crucified Christ; that destroyed Jerusalem and scattered the Jews; that persecuted the early Christians in pagan times, and Protestant Christians in papal times; and probably shall be again restored to its pristine grandeur, such as it had under the Cæsars, just before the burning of the harlot and of itself with her. So HIPPOLYTUS [On Antichrist] (who lived in the second century), thought. Popery cannot be at one and the same time the "mystery of iniquity," and the manifested or revealed Antichrist. Probably it will compromise for political power (Re 17:3) the portion of Christianity still in its creed, and thus shall prepare the way for Antichrist's manifestation. The name Babylon, which in the image, Da 2:32,38, is given to the head, is here given to the harlot, which marks her as being connected with the fourth kingdom, Rome, the last part of the image. Benedict XIII, in his indiction for a jubilee, A.D. 1725, called Rome "the mother of all believers, and the mistress of all churches" (harlots like herself). The correspondence of syllables and accents in Greek is striking; "He porne kai to therion; He numphe kai to arnion." "The whore and the beast; the Bride and the Lamb."       of harlots--Greek, "of the harlots and of the abominations." Not merely Rome, but Christendom as a whole, even as formerly Israel as a whole, has become a harlot. The invisible Church of true believers is hidden and dispersed in the visible Church. The boundary lines which separate harlot and woman are not denominational nor drawn externally, but can only be spiritually discerned. If Rome were the only seat of Babylon, much of the spiritual profit of Revelation would be lost to us; but the harlot "sitteth upon many waters" (Re 17:1), and "ALL nations have drunk of the wine of her fornication" (Re 17:2; 18:3; "the earth," Re 19:2). External extensiveness over the whole world and internal conformity to the world -- worldliness in extent and contents -- is symbolized by the name of the world city, "Babylon." As the sun shines on all the earth, thus the woman clothed with the sun (Israel) is to let her light penetrate to the uttermost parts of the earth. But she, in externally Christianizing the world, permits herself to be seduced by the world; thus her universality or catholicity is not that of the Jerusalem which we look for ("the MOTHER of us all," Re 21:2; Isa 2:2-4; Ga 4:26), but that of Babylon, the world-wide but harlot city! (As Babylon was destroyed, and the Jews restored to Jerusalem by Cyrus, so our Cyrus--a Persian name meaning the sun -- the Sun of righteousness, shall bring Israel, literal and spiritual, to the holy Jerusalem at His coming. Babylon and Jerusalem are the two opposite poles of the spiritual world). Still, the Romish Church is not only accidentally and as a matter of fact, but in virtue of its very PRINCIPLE, a harlot, the metropolis of whoredom, "the mother of harlots"; whereas the evangelical Protestant Church is, according to her principle and fundamental creed, a chaste woman; the Reformation was a protest of the woman against the harlot. The spirit of the heathen world kingdom Rome had, before the Reformation, changed the Church in the West into a Church-State, Rome; and in the East, into a State-Church, fettered by the world power, having its center in Byzantium; the Roman and Greek churches have thus fallen from the invisible spiritual essence of the Gospel into the elements of the world [AUBERLEN]. Compare with the "woman" called "Babylon" here, the woman named "wickedness," or "lawlessness," "iniquity" (Zec 5:7-8,11), carried to Babylon: compare "the mystery of iniquity" and "the man of sin," "that wicked one," literally, "the lawless one" (2Th 2:7-8; also Mt 24:12). This is the reason for the present development of NAU (The North American Union) as well as the war in the Middle East. It again proves that we are moving to closure of the times of the Gentiles prophesied in the Bible. Rome, August 13, 2007 - CWNews.com - The second encyclical by Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) will focus on economic issues, Vatican officials say. The forthcoming encyclical would continue the series of papal statements on Catholic social teaching. The Holy Father is preparing the document for the 40th anniversary of Populorum Progressio, the social encyclical released in 1967 by Pope Paul VI. The Vatican has not formally confirmed that the Pope is writing an encyclical, nor have officials given any indication of when the document could be released. However in July, as the Pontiff began his vacation in the Alps, Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office, told reporters that the Pope would spend part of his time working on a new encyclical. Ignazio Ingrao, who covers the Vatican the Italian magazine Panorama, reports that the focus of the new papal statement will be the process of globalization. Pope Benedict will emphasize the need for economic structures and regulations that promote solidarity and favor the equitable distribution of resources, he said. In Italy, the Panorama report drew widespread attention because Ingrao predicted that the Pope would explicitly condemn tax evasion. The use of tax havens by wealthy individuals has become a hot topic in that country. Deus Caritas Est, the long-awaited first encyclical by Benedict XVI, was released in January 2006. Shortly after his election, the Pope disclosed that he did not expect to issue many papal documents-- a statement that surprised the many readers familiar with the prolific work of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger prior to his election as Roman Pontiff. ----- JUAN CARLOS ALFONSO VICTOR MARIA DE BORBON Y BORBON Juan Carlos is better known as H.M. Juan Carlos I of Spain, Birth: January 5, 1938 in Rome, Italy [A Papal Knight] R. Taylor forcefully made the case for Juan Carlos in his book The Antichrist King: Juan Carlos (1994), and many antichrist watchers have recently taken up his cause. Among other pieces of evidence, the Juan Carlos proponents (”JCers,” I call them) cite the following: According to Daniel 7:23-25, the “prince who will come” will be the leader of the 11th nation to join the revived Roman Empire, or, as interpreted by the JCers, the European Union. Spain was the 11th nation to join the EU. According to Daniel 9:27, the antichrist shall “confirm a treaty with many for one week.” “One week” is taken to mean “seven years” by JCers; but more importantly, when surveying the world for places in desperate need for a treaty of some kind which also have some biblical significance, the JCers point to tensions in the Middle East. Oddly enough, it appears that Juan Carlos has been playing either an indirect or a direct role in the Middle East peace process for some time. The 1991 Madrid Conference which kicked off multi-lateral talks among Israel, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and representatives of Palestine, initiated by the Americans and the Russians, was hosted by the Spanish government. Subsequently, Israel lobbied hard for Juan Carlos to take a leading role in mediating Israeli and Palestinian differences in 2001; and many have observed that the body most likely to monitor any resolution of Middle East tensions is NATO, which from 1995-99 was headed by former Spanish foreign minister Javier Solana. Various renderings of Juan Carlos’ name (in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German and Russian) apparently add up to ‘666' under numerological scrutiny. Juan Carlos is said to be a descendant of those dastardly Merovingians, the ancient Frankish kings who were the focus of Dan Brown’s ramblings in The Da Vinci Code. Juan Carlos allegedly has a yacht called The Dragon, seen as a reference to Satan, who is depicted as a dragon in Revelations 13: 2, 11-14. Napoleon, Hitler, Mussolini, Gorbachev, and even Reagan are some who have been "identified" as the Antichrist. Now, however, with the apparent decrease of U.S. influence in the Middle East peace process, due to the negative relations currently between President Clinton and Yasser Arafat, a leader of the "Revived Roman Empire" (the European Union, it would seem) appears ready to fulfill the prophecy of Daniel 9:27 regarding the "'prince who is to come'" who shall "'confirm a treaty with many for one week'" (where "one week" means "7 years"). The Bible indicates, in Daniel 7:23-25, that this "'prince who is to come'" will be the leader of, apparently, the 11th nation to join what is referred to as the "Revived Roman Empire". The European Union, given its form as a "union" of nations from the Old Roman Empire, and given its "arising" during the same generation that witnessed both Israel becoming a nation in 1948 A.D. and Israel regaining control of the holiest sites of Jerusalem in 1967 A.D., is quite likely the fulfillment of the prophecy of the "beast with 10 horns" described in Daniel 7. The "'prince who is to come'", the Antichrist, will apparently be the ruler of the 11th nation to join this "Beast". If the European Union is the fulfillment of the "beast with 10 horns" of Daniel 7:7, then the Antichrist will be the ruler of the 11th nation to have joined that Union. Spain was the 11th nation to join the European Union, and the current ruler of Spain is King Juan Carlos. It appears to be quite likely that King Juan Carlos of Spain is the Antichrist. King Juan Carlos was born in Rome, Italy on January 5, 1938 A.D.. His full name is, "Juan Carlos Alfonso Victor Maria de Borbon y Borbon". His father's full name was, "Juan Carlos Teresa Silverio Alfonso de Borbon y Borbon". His father was in exile from Spain while Francisco Franco ruled Spain following Franco's overthrow of the Spanish monarchy. Juan Carlos (the son), from the age of 10, was personally trained under Franco's direction, and graduated from all three of Spain's military academies. In 1962 A.D., Juan Carlos married Princess Sophia of Greece, and they had two daughters, and a son (Felipe). Juan Carlos was appointed Franco's successor as ruler of Spain, against the wishes of Juan Carlos' father, who still laid claim to the throne of Spain. In November of 1975 A.D., Juan Carlos became king of Spain after Franco's death. Juan Carlos is a highly respected and honored king and "statesman", having led Spain through a crisis in 1981 A.D. when some of the military sought to wrest control of Spain from the monarchy. According to Daniel 9:27, the "'prince who is to come'" (the Antichrist) shall "'confirm a treaty with many for one week'". A recent news report (Reuters - August 12, 2000 A.D.) stated that Israel is requesting that King Juan Carlos help "mediate" the current Middle East peace process between Israel and several of Israel's Arab enemies, primarily the PLO. The news report stated that those involved were hoping the planned meeting in Spain in early 2001 A.D. (or perhaps before) would "consolidate" the peace process. The term, "consolidate", is a synonym for "confirm", and means to "strengthen". What is also interesting in regard to Spain and the Middle East peace process is that the peace process began in Madrid, Spain in 1991 A.D.. 'The Bourbon out of Gerona' and 'Catalans do not have a king,' the demonstrators chanted while the monarch inaugurated a technology park belonging to a local university on Thursday. The protesters displayed large images of the king and of Queen Sofia upside down, setting them on fire. Such demonstrations are rare in Spain, where the royal family enjoys widespread popularity. The royals have, however, come under increasing criticism especially in Catalonia and in the Basque region, which are seeking more autonomy from Spanish rule. "Abdullah Gul has pledged to respect Turkey's institutions Reaction to election Turkey's controversial Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul has been sworn in as the country's new president. He is the first politician with an Islamist background to become head of state since the creation of the deeply secular Turkish Republic in 1923. His swearing-in follows a third round of voting in parliament, which he won by a clear majority. Mr Gul took his oath at a ceremony in parliament, pledging loyalty to democracy and to the secular Republic. "As long as I am in office, I will embrace all our citizens without any bias," he said. Mr Gul used to belong to an Islamist party, and his candidacy split Turkey for months, inspiring street protests and forcing an early general election. Tutu, who consistently comes up with cutting-edge heretical statements, particularly mentioned the issue of homosexuality, which is causing divisions in Anglicanism. Addressing the Archbishop of Canterbury and the upcoming Lambeth Conference, Tutu said, "Please invite ALL those in Episcopal orders who are not retired, even those irregularly consecrated or actively gay; please, now I appeal to you all, do not excommunicate one another seemingly so easily. This man is deeply confused. The Lord Jesus warned that without repentance there is no salvation (Luke 13:3, 5). Jesus accepts sinners as they are, but only on the basis of repentance and faith, and He then tells them what he told the blind man: "Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee" (John 5:14), and the woman that was caught in adultery, "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more" (John 8:11). The Tutu gospel is a cheap gospel of license rather than the biblical gospel of true conversion. The Tutu "church" is not a true New Testament church after the pattern of the first churches that required their members to exhibit new birth salvation (Acts 2:41-42) and exercised discipline toward those who persisted in sin (1 Corinthians 5). The Tutu Commission of changing the world is not the one that Jesus left us five times in Scripture (Mat. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:44-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8). Nowhere do we see the Lord's apostles going about to heal the world of poverty, disease, and war. Tutu's Christianity is described in 2 Timothy 3. The Senate attached hate crimes legislation to a must-pass Pentagon spending bill Thursday, but opponents predicted it ultimately would fail.“The president is not going to agree to this social legislation on the defense authorization bill,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. “This bill will get vetoed.” Well, we’ll see. The White House opposes the hate-crimes bill because it extends new protections to gay people, but would Bush reject funding the military just to prevent these protections from becoming law? Graham’s convinced he’d rather veto the whole package; I’m not convinced. Rejecting funding for the Pentagon during a war just to limit safeguards for gays seems a little over the top, even by Republican standards. The GOP, of course, filibustered the proposed amendment, but supporters just barely shut it down, 60 to 39. However, opponents retorted that Kennedy’s action will delay funds to U.S. troops and that raising a “special interest” bill at such an urgent time is inappropriate. “I think it’s shameful we’re changing the subject to take care of special interest legislation at a time like this,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), according to The Associated Press. White House’s Goeglein also agrees it is “the height of irresponsibility” for senators to link the hate crimes legislation, which Bush has repeatedly vowed to veto, with the “necessary” Pentagon spending bill. Many Christian leaders fear that the hate crime bill will inhibit pastors from speaking about homosexuality as a biblical sin and be interpreted in a way that bans even peaceful speech against the lifestyle. As example, leaders have pointed to hate-crime laws in England, Sweden and Canada, where Christians have been prosecuted for breaking these laws. Furthermore, in the United States, 11 Christians in Pennsylvania were prosecuted under the state’s hate crimes law shortly after “sexual orientation” was added as a victim category several years ago. That is not a biblical reason for divorce. Christ gave only one legitimate cause, and that is fornication, yet the two said "the split involves no third party on either side." God says the wife is the husband's help-meet and she is to be the keeper of the home (Titus 2:4-5), and the husband is to "dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life" (1 Peter 3:7). Randy has spent months commuting to Malibu, California, where he has a beachfront home. Paula, a preacher and motivational speaker, makes many speaking trips to San Antonio, where she recently purchased a home and is "oversight pastor" to the Family Praise Center. In reality they are sinning against God's Word while pretending to be undergoing a "trial" and to be victims of circumstance, and this, sadly, is typical for charismatics today. When Paula appeared on Carman's show on Trinity Broadcasting Network on September 12 and 13, she was greeted with loud applause. She told the enthusiastic crowd, "Some of the greatest development in the men and women of God ... were those in adverse situation, those in opposition. ... Morris Cerullo, head of Morris Cerullo World Evangelism, was scheduled to go to trial August 21, 2007 on three counts of filing false tax returns that misstated his income by $550,000 between 1998 and 2000. Each count could have carried a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $100,000 fine. U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez found that grand jury members were not told that a donor's intent is key to determining whether money given to religious ministers is subject to tax. The judge said grand jury members asked several times about how to make that distinction, but each time Assistant U.S. Attorney George Hardy did not tell them the significance of donor intent. Internal Revenue Service agents who testified answered incorrectly and in one case stated the exact opposite of the law, the judge wrote in a ruling issued last week. The resolution, which was made by Chicago's Bishop Paul Landahl and was passed by a margin of 538-431, is contrary to the denomination's own laws, which forbid practicing homosexuals to hold the office of a pastor. In typical liberal doublespeak, ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson said, "I interpret that as a way to reflect this journey of conversation, discussion, decision, seeking to be faithful to the authority of Scripture, the interpretation of our confession and mindful of the very context in which we are engaged in God's mission" ("Lutherans Ask Bishops to Keep Gay Clergy," Chicago Tribune, Aug. 12). He did not explain how it is possible to be faithful to Scripture and to the denomination's confession by ignoring them or how it is possible to engage in God's mission while disobeying His Word. To understand what might have happened, we can turn to an August 13 policy conference that was held in Washington, DC. Titled "The Montebello Summit and the Future of North America," the conference presented three panels of global thinkers, including Dr. Robert A. Pastor, to prognosticate on the past, present and future of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) and North America. These are the academics who represent the policy leading up to each annual SPP summit. Not coincidentally, the conference was scheduled just one week prior to the SPP Summit held in Montebello, Quebec, where the heads of state would collaborate on issues of "deep integration" between the three nations. The conference organizer, Professor Christopher Sands, is a Senior Fellow at Hudson, a colleague of Dr. Robert Pastor at American University and a member of the Advisory Committee to the U.S. Section of the North American Competitiveness Council. The Linowitz Commission supported President Carter’s decision to negotiate a treaty to turn over the Panama Canal to Panama. Pastor left the Linowitz Commission to join become director of the Office of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs in the National Security Council in the Carter White House. There Pastor served as Carter’s “point man” in getting the Senate to narrowly vote for the Carter-Torrijos Treaty on April 18, 1978, despite staunch objections from conservative politicians including Ronald Reagan. In December 1993, President Bill Clinton nominated Pastor to be U.S. ambassador to Panama. Pastor’s nomination was approved by a 16-3 vote in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and his confirmation looked virtually certain. The nomination failed, however, and was withdrawn by the administration in February 1995, after then-Sen. Jesse Helms (R.-N.C.) swore to prevent a Senate vote on Pastor’s nomination. Helms, who had vehemently opposed the turn-over of the Panama Canal, placed much of the blame squarely on Pastor, declaring when he opposed Pastor’s nomination that Pastor “presided over one of the most disastrous and humiliating periods in the history of U.S. involvement in Latin America.” Helms also claimed that Pastor bore responsibility for what Helms saw as “a Carter administration cover-up of alleged involvement by Nicaragua’s Sandinista government in arms shipments to leftist rebels in El Salvador.” Dr. Pastor has also co-authored a 1989 book with his long-time friend, Jorge G. Castañeda, who began his career as a member of the Mexican Communist Party. Castañeda, a life-long admirer of the radical left, published in 1998 an admiring biography of the revolutionary “hero” Che Guevara. Castañeda, like Pastor, has sought to work in government positions to implement his theories, not satisfied to be a political scientist who writes books and teaches at universities. "Instead of 99.9 percent identical, maybe we're only 99 percent (alike)," said J. Craig Venter, an author of the study - and the person whose DNA was analyzed for it. Several previous studies have argued for lowering the 99.9 percent estimate. Venter says this new analysis "proves the point." The new work, in the latest issue of PLoS Biology, marks the first time a scientific journal has presented the entire DNA makeup, or human genome, of an individual. However, James D. Watson - co-discoverer of DNA's molecular structure - received his own personal DNA map from scientists a few months ago. And the genomes for both him and Venter are already posted on scientific Web sites. Venter is president of the J. Craig Venter Institute in Rockville, Md., which does genetics research. He and scientists at his institute and elsewhere collaborated on the work that produced his genetic map. The order of building blocks along a strand of DNA encodes genetic information, somewhat like the way a sequence of letters creates a sentence. Particular sequences form genes. Landmark studies published in 2001 indicated that the DNA of any two people is about 99.9 percent alike. The new paper suggests estimates of 99.5 percent to just 99 percent, Venter said. The Venter paper joins several others published over the past three to four years that indicate an estimate of around 99 percent, said Richard Gibbs, a DNA expert at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston who didn't participate in Venter's study. The studies produce the lower figure because they uncovered chunks of DNA that differ among people, whereas previous studies focused on differences in individual building blocks. The 99 percent figure is close to what scientists have often estimated for the similarity between humans and chimps. But the human-chimp similarity drops to more like 95 percent when the more recently discovered kinds of DNA variation are considered, Venter said. Gibbs called the Venter paper significant, along with a similar but not-yet-published analysis of Watson's DNA that he has worked on. That's because the analyses show more differences than expected from the standard human DNA sequence published by the federal government, he said. Apparently a series of research articles produced over more than a decade showed that mice and rats injected with glass-encapsulated RFID transponder implants developed malignant, fast-growing, lethal cancers in 1% to 10% of cases. The tumours were formed in the tissue around the microchips and often grew all around the devices, the researchers said. Dr. Katherine Albrecht first found out about the microchips causing cancer possibility when she and her "Spychips" co-author, Liz McIntyre, heard from a dog owner whose companion animal had died due to a chip-induced malignant tumour. Dr. Albrecht then discovered medical research that revealed a link between microchip implants and cancer in other animals. Research discovered further documents, several of which had been published before VeriChip's parent company, Applied Digital Solutions, had sought FDA approval to market the implant for humans. The VeriChip was subsequently approved in 2004 under the guidance of the then Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson. VeriChip had the responsibility to bring the studies to their attention, but VeriChip CEO Scott Silverman claims the company didn’t know about the research. However, Dr. Katherine Albrecht was sceptical that VeriChip, whose main business is microchip implants, were not aware of studies in the published literature about the subject, and she said: "Had the FDA known about the cancer link, they might never have approved his company's product." It has been reported that VeriChip has already chipped 90 Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers in Florida. Employees in the Mexican Attorney General's Office, workers in an American security firm, and club-goers in Europe have also received microchip implants. Dr. Katherine Albrecht urged people with the implants to have them removed as soon as possible and she added: "Why would anyone take the risk of a having cancer chip in their arm?" In recent years, however, Magal evolved into a publicly-traded company, although IAI (and thus the government of Israel) still holds a substantial share in the highly successful firm. What all of this means is that the government of Israel will actually have control over the security of America's nuclear weapons. Supporters of Israel say that this is a splendid idea, since Israel is said to be perhaps America's closest ally on the face of the planet. However, there are some critics who question the propriety of America's super-sensitive nuclear security being in the hands of any foreign nation, particularly Israel which, even today, officially denies that it is engaged in the production of nuclear arms. Be that as it may, however, Magal's global interests are quite broad-ranging. Imagine regular, consistent toll increases over the next 50 years. The 78-mile trip from Sunrise to Naples costs $2.50 cash ($2 for SunPass customers). Imagine that rate rising to $3 next year, to $4.50 by 2012 and $6.75 within a decade. It's not so farfetched. Florida is in another budgetary down cycle. The unsustainable merry-go-round of rising real-estate values and spiraling new construction has finally stopped spinning cash into state coffers. Investment bankers and their powerful lobbyist friends are circling. Faced with multibillion-dollar shortfalls, Gov. Charlie Crist is considering selling long-term leases on such valuable state assets as the Florida Lottery and toll roads. ''Everything is still on the table,'' said Pamela Griffis, a spokeswoman for Transportation Secretary Stephanie Kopelousos. ``Nothing is set in stone, but we're looking at everything.'' For now, Florida's Turnpike and its progeny, including the Sawgrass Expressway, are off limits. Under the new rules, valid foreign passports, previous state driver's licenses and other verifiable proofs of ID will be considered on a point-based system, according to a source who spoke to the Post. "The DMV does not believe it's in the business of checking a person's legal status; it's not the INS," the source said. Atkinson is bluntly advocating that Bush should become dictator for life with these outrageously anti-American statements.
