like to introduce ourselves. George and Rita Williams founded
this ministry. We were Mormons (Temple Mormons) for 20 years.
We prayed to God in 1992 to allow us to do a ministry speaking
out against Scientology. Six months later God led us to the truth:
out of the cult of Mormonism. We did not know at the time we
were in a cult. No-one had witnessed to us in 20 years.
- The Holy Spirit brought us to information about all the cults
and the present development of the New World Order. We began
bringing our research to you. Because all the research was already
done, we decided to build a library within Cephas Ministry. Our
newsletters are not designed to provoke
anger which is strictly prohibited in Scripture. It is to shed
light on activities by those who would deceive those who are
recorded in the Book of Life, by devious methods and systematic
plans.

The focus of these newsletters is to prove why we had to leave
the world system. We are called 'Watchmen on the Wall' which
God always had during the Old / New Testament Times.

The news about churches is unedited unless indicated by Ednotes.
The church as we knew it, is undergoing disintegration. This
began on a fast track in the early nineteen sixties when the
Catholic Church produced liberal Vatican II to replace Vatican
I.
- The trend since then has been ecumenical which is truly what
the word 'Catholicism' means: a universal religion all
inclusive and multicultural. The Bible calls for a final church
which doesn't resemble what Jesus taught. The Word of God has
undergone many changes to fit the present mode. The Bible calls
for a falling away from the truth before Jesus
comes back for His Bride, the true believers are called 'Ekklesia.'
Our newsletters prove this fact and prove that the Bible is true
from beginning to end.
- The second section is about globalism
where we bring your attention to the social, political and global
trend, so called democratizing what is left. One third of the
world still remains to be taken over. It again proves that we
are moving to closure of the times of the Gentiles prophesied
in the Bible.
- The third section compliments End Time
teachings with what is happening in Israel. We describe and watch
for signs of the coming Tribulation to confirm that we are moving
into that space of time.
- Watchmen on the wall do not solicit memberships. We have
an email group that gets information when we upload new information
and a newsletter whenever it is possible time wise. We love the

SCRIPTURES
- THE BEMA JUDGMENT: "... In both Romans 14:10-12 and
II Corinthians 5:10, the Greek word that is translated as “judgment
seat” is BEMA, defined by Strong’s Hebrew-Greek Dictionary
as “a step, i.e., foot-breath; by implication, a rostrum,
i.e., a tribunal,” and is translated as “judgment-seat,
set [foot] on, throne,” in the King James Version. It is
in direct contrast to another Greek word, CRITERION, which is
also translated as “judgment seat” in other New Testament
passages. According to Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon Of
The New Testament, CRITERION means “the instrument or means
of trying or judging anything; the rule by which one judges,”
or “the place where judgment is given; the tribunal of a
judge; a bench of judges.”
Thus, the Greek word BEMA, used for judgment seat in the above
scriptures, carries the connotation of honor and reward rather
than justice and judgment. This dictionary definition confirms
the obvious meaning of I Corinthians 3:9-15, which clearly states
that Christians will have the quality and character of their
earthly deeds judged by Christ to determine the degree of righteousness
attained by each believer. This becomes even more evident with
II Corinthians 5:10 when that verse is placed in the context
of the verses surrounding it. Because only believers will have
a “house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens”;
and only believers will experience “mortality (that) might
be swallowed up of life”; and only believers have the confidence
that “whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from
the Lord.”
It should be emphasized that this “judgment of the saints”
will have nothing to do with any judicial judgment to determine
if an individual is a true believer because the salvation which
the believer receives through Christ Jesus delivers him from
all judgment. (John 5:24) (Romans 8:1) (I John 4:17). To say
otherwise would deny the efficacy of the death of Christ Jesus,
and nullify God’s promise that “their sins and iniquities
will I remember no more” (Hebrews 10:17). Instead, this
bema judgment by Christ simply determines the extent of each
person’s reward based on their motives for doing the things
they did during their lifetime.
“Things done in his body, according to that he hath done,
whether it be good or bad.” The Greek word translated as
“bad” in this phrase is based on the Greek word PHAULOS,
rather than KAKOS or PONERAS, which are the usual Greek words
employed for the word “bad” whenever moral or ethical
evil is the actual intended meaning. In this instance, however,
according to Richard C. Trench in New Testament Synonyms, the
Greek word PHAULOS is used to indicate “...evil under another
aspect, not so much... malignity, but... good-for-nothingness....
Worthlessness...”
Therefore, the purpose of the bema judgment is not to determine
the moral goodness or evil of our earthly deeds, but whether
each deed is acceptable or worthless to the Kingdom and Glory
of God. That is why I Corinthians 3:13 says that: “Every
man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare
it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall
try every man’s work of what sort it is.” However,

[NOTE from the editor of Cephas Ministry. Evangelist Frank
Caw who authored the article "The Bema Judgment" passed
away in 2005. The website was taken over by Tim McHyde in Costa
Rica. In checking the link to the contributor, the author of
this website is in juxta position with Frank Caw and disputes
what Frank Caw discovered in years and years of Scripture studies
and developing his ministry. I touched base with him some years
ago when we all started out on AOL. So why is Timothy McHyde
hosting it? He is of the young generation who grew up on Star
Wars. There is no deep understanding of God's Book and to get
his point across he comes up with a formula to convince us that
only he is correct. There was no mention of the Holy Spirit in
his sales pitch. He uses Luke 21:36. Ironically Jesus states
there, that there is a way of escape
from all these things. It is too late
after He appears on the Mount of Olives which begins Armageddon.
Those who refused to take the mark are already beheaded. Who
is going to be raptured at that point? They are all dead. His
appearance on the Mount of Olives is to the Remnant of Jews who
have not received Him as their Lord and Savior prior to
this event.
- God has to do a miracle to save them even when they see Him
in person, because their hearts are so hardened that He can't
penetrate them. God has to give this Remnant a new flesh heart
and artificially save them without repentance and write His laws
into their hearts so they will behave and save them as He promised
Abraham.
- Jesus made a way for Jews to accept Christ Jesus as their
Lord and Savior today and become ONE with the Church,
His Body, which will be snatched up and raptured prior
to this event as promised. We will not see Him on this event
according to the Apostle Paul.
- Paul was assigned to the Gentiles but was a Jew and taught
Jews as well. The early Church was made up of Jews and Gentiles.
Why is that so hard to accept for Jews? Do they really wish to
go through another Hollocaust by Islam as Netanyhau predicts?
Jesus Christ is offering protection from the Tribulation to Jews
as well as Gentiles. They will be unified into One Body.
- Jews cannot seem to forgive and pray for their enemies who
are long dead and buried. Because of the unforgiveness in their
hearts which is contrary to God's message, they will miss
out on God's loving plan of "escape from
all these things." It says so, read it. Jesus
was speaking to the Jews here in the synagogue. Jesus said to
be accounted worthy. How do we become accounted worthy? By works?
No. Simply by repenting of our stupidity and accepting
the righteousness of Christ Jesus as ours, because His is the
only righteousness that God will accept. Ours is
filthy rags. We have nothing to offer, Jew or Gentile.
We are part of this contaminated world and just filthy simply
by having to participate in it. We are cursed from day one and
need righteousness to approach God and the only
way we can attain it is by receiving Jesus' righteousness imputed
(a free deposit to our account) from Jesus Christ our precious
Forgiver, Lover of mankind who died for all, who made the ultimate
sacrifice for us, not Himself, so we would
not have to burn in a Satanic Holocaust forever. That was not
God's invention but Satan's due to Satan's free will.
- God allowed the holocaust to show us the depth of depravity
of mankind run by Satanic forces. Believers all had to come to
the point of becoming complete fools for having believed
that there was anything worthwhile to live for in this horrible
place. Satan's attack on mankind are endless and to think they
will go on for eternity for those who do not take Jesus Christ
serious and forfeit their eternal future, is unbearable to those
who have come into God's rest.
- We cannot make that decision when it is too late. God describes
the event: "The Tribulation" which will follow when
the globalization is complete, in the very near future, as a
TRAP, which means that we have to be ready for it not to get
caught in the trap. Satan has the power to deceive all
with these attacks on the TRUTH.
- Born again believers who stay on the Word will stand strong.
Their house is built ON THE ROCK which is Christ Jesus whose
name is the WORD.
- Luke 21:27-37 And then shall they see the Son of man coming
in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things
begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads;
for your redemption draweth nigh. And he spake to them a parable;
Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth,
ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at
hand. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass,
know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say

- Haggard was born in Indiana. His father, J. M. Haggard, a
practicing veterinarian in Yorktown, Indiana, founded an international
charismatic ministry featured in the PBS Middletown documentary
series. In 1972, at age sixteen, Haggard became a born-again
Christian after hearing a sermon from the late evangelist Bill
Bright in Dallas, Texas. He was educated at Oral Roberts University,
a charismatic Christian university in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1978,
Haggard married Gayle Alcorn. The couple have five children:
Christy; Marcus (1984), who is also a pastor in Colorado Springs
at the Boulder Street Church; Jonathan (1989); Alex (1992); and
Elliot (1995). In November 1984, he was associate pastor of Bethany
World Prayer Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when, according
to Haggard, missionary to Mexico City and Haggard confidant/mentor
Danny Ost had a vision of Haggard founding his church in Colorado
Springs. Haggard moved to Colorado shortly afterwards and founded
New Life Church. Initially, the church space was Haggard's own
basement, growing to rented spaces in strip malls. At the time
he was removed from his job, New Life Church operated from a
campus in northern Colorado Springs, reporting a membership of
fourteen thousand people.

- 2ND PASTOR RESIGNS OVER GAY SEX SCANDAL
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -- December 11, 2006 - The founding pastor
of a second Colorado church has resigned over gay sex allegations,
just weeks after the evangelical community was shaken by the
scandal surrounding megachurch leader Ted Haggard. Haggard, a
gay-marriage opponent, admitted to unspecified "sexual immorality"
when he resigned last month as president of the National Association
of Evangelicals and pastor of the 14,000-member New Life Church
in Colorado Springs. A male prostitute had said he had had sex
with Haggard for three years.
- On Sunday, Paul Barnes, founding pastor of the 2,100-member
Grace Chapel in this Denver suburb, told his evangelical congregation
in a videotaped message he had had sexual relations with other
men and was stepping down.
- Dave Palmer, associate pastor of Grace Chapel, told The Denver
Post that Barnes confessed to him after the church received a
call last week. The church board of elders accepted Barnes' resignation
on Thursday. On the videotape, which The Post was allowed to
view, Barnes told church members: "I have struggled with
homosexuality since I was a 5-year-old boy. ... I can't tell
you the number of nights I have cried myself to sleep, begging
God to take this away."
- Barnes, 54, led Grace Chapel for 28 years. He and his wife
have two adult children. Palmer said in a written statement that
"While we cannot condone what he has done, we continue to
support and love Paul."

- CONFIRMS THE ABOVE: PASTOR RESIGNS OVER HOMOSEXUALITY
Denver Post, USA - December 11, 2006 - Eric Gorski - In a tearful
videotaped message Sunday to his congregation, the senior pastor
of a thriving evangelical megachurch in south metro Denver confessed
to sexual relations with other men and announced he had voluntarily
resigned his pulpit. A month ago, the Rev. Paul Barnes of Grace
Chapel in Doug las County preached to his 2,100-member congregation
about integrity and grace in the aftermath of the Ted Haggard
drugs-and-gay-sex scandal.
- Now, the 54-year-old Barnes joins Haggard as a fallen evangelical
minister who preached that homosexuality was a sin but grappled
with a hidden life. “I have struggled with homosexuality
since I was a 5-year-old boy,” Barnes said in the 32- minute
video, which church leaders permitted The Denver Post to view.
“… I can’t tell you the number of nights I have
cried myself to sleep, begging God to take this away.”
- His wife, Char, cradled his hand. Barnes declined an interview
request through the church.
- Unlike Haggard, who had the ear of the White House, Barnes
is not a household name. He is a self-described introvert who
avoids politics, preferring to talk about a Gen-X service at
the nondenominational church he started 28 years ago in his basement,
church officials said. Barnes and Grace Chapel stayed out of
the debate over Amendment 43, a measure approved by Colorado
voters last month defining marriage as between one man and one
woman.
- “I can’t think of a single sermon where he ever
had a political agenda,” said Dave Palmer, an associate
pastor.
- Palmer said the church got an anonymous call last week from
a person concerned for the welfare of Barnes and the church.
The caller had overheard a conversation in which someone mentioned
“blowing the whistle” on evangelical preachers engaged
in homosexuality, including Barnes, Palmer said.
- Palmer met with Barnes, who confessed. At an emergency meeting
Thursday, a board of elders accepted Barnes’ resignation
after he admitted “sexual infidelity,” violating the
church’s code of conduct. Church leaders also must affirm
annually that they are “living the moral and ethical teachings
of Scripture in my public and private life.”
- Asked for details of Barnes’ transgressions, Palmer
called them “infrequent events in his life” that to
his knowledge did not take place in recent months. Sitting cross-legged
in jeans and an open-collar shirt, Barnes spoke in his video
about evolving feelings growing up in a firm moral family: from
confused little boy to adolescent racked with self-loathing and
guilt. In their only talk about sex, Barnes said his father took
him on a drive and talked about what he would do if a “fag”
approached him. Barnes thought, “‘Is that how you’d
feel about me?’ It was like a knife in my heart, and it
made me feel even more closed.” When Barnes experienced
a Christian conversion at 17, it gave him a glimmer of hope.
But his homosexual feelings never went away, he said. He said
he cannot accept that a person is “born that way,”
so he looks to childhood influences. Barnes said he asked God
many times why he was called to ministry, to start Grace Chapel,
carrying a “horrible burden.”
- The soft-spoken Barnes is an unlikely big-church pastor.
After graduating from Dallas Theological Seminary, Barnes and
his wife moved to Denver and began a Bible study. His church
met in a school and a mortuary, bought property at Colorado Boulevard
and Arapahoe Road, and now occupies a campus off County Line
Road that used to be a car dealership. Barnes described struggling
with what he believes is the biblical teaching that homosexuality
is an abomination. Over the years, he grew to accept that “this
is my thorn in the flesh.”
- Barnes expressed hope for a future where one can “be
who you are” and be accepted and loved in the Christian
community and also spoke about “separating some of the teachings
from Scripture” from Jesus Christ. Palmer said he wasn’t
sure what Barnes meant, but Barnes told him that he believes
God views homosexuality as a sin. Barnes said he has been in
counseling three times and never found anyone he could talk to.
His wife said on the video that she didn’t know about her
husband’s struggles until he confided in her last week.
The couple has two daughters in their 20s. Char Barnes said she
feels “like I’m living someone else’s life”
but was grateful her husband revealed himself. The couple said
they hope to stay in Denver. Near the tape’s end, Paul Barnes
says, “This is what it is, it’s right, and it’s
time.” Church elder Russ Pilcher said the reaction at services
Sunday was largely concern for the couple. “I thought, ‘Where
did I fall short in making myself so unapproachable that he couldn’t
come to me?”‘ Pilcher said. Paul and Char Barnes will
get counseling, but unlike Haggard, they will not go into seclusion
or report to a board of reconcilers, Palmer said. He said it
will be more personal and that church members will play a role.
Associate pastor John Zivojinovic is the interim senior pastor,
and choosing a successor is still months away, Pilcher said.
Given the Haggard story, Palmer was asked whether Barnes’
fall from grace would expose the evangelical community to further
charges of hypocrisy.
- “The criticism is valid if you look at perfection being
the mark, because the next person who stands at our pulpit is
going to be guilty of not being perfect as well,” he said.
“Does that mean we have to change what we say about the
word of God? We can’t do that.”

his prepared sermon. The Rev. Ted Haggard scandal was still unfolding,
and he couldn’t let it go unnoticed. So Barnes wrote a new
sermon: “Integrity, Sin and Grace.”
- Barnes defined integrity as “being the same on the outside
as you are on the inside.” All people come to God broken,
he said. Maybe it’s alcoholism, he said. Or a bad temper.
Or pornography. Some people overcome their problems; others continue
to live with them, he said. “Most of us, if the truth were
known, we wear masks,” Barnes said. “… Sometimes,
we wear masks because we want to be appear more perfect than
we are. But the reality of it is, all of us are so very imperfect.”

- MORMONS GRANT AWARD TO CATHOLIC CARDINAL
- December 1, 2006 - www.wayoflife.org - The Mormon Church
in Australia presented Catholic Cardinal Edward Cassidy with
an award for his devotion to "ecumenical and inter-faith
dialogue" ("Interfaith Honour for Cardinal Cassidy,"
Catholic Weekly, Oct. 1, 2006). The Mormons are gradually working
their way into the mainstream of the ecumenical movement. In
November 2004 some evangelicals, (including Ravi Zacharias, CCM
musician Michael Card, Richard Mouw of Fuller Seminary, and Craig
Hazen of Biola University) joined hands with Mormons in Salt
Lake City for an "Evening of Friendship." The event
was co-sponsored by Standing Together Ministries, which was formed
in 2001 by "evangelical" preacher Greg Johnson to "build
greater dialogue between evangelical Christians and Latter-day
Saints." In the Deseret Morning News, Card is quoted as
saying that "he doesn't see Mormonism and evangelical Christianity
as opposed to each other; they are more like the two ends of

- December 1, 2006 - An interfaith Thanksgiving service on
November 23 in Birmingham, Alabama, brought together Baptists,
Methodists, Presbyterians, Muslims, Christian Scientists, and
others. Baptist Church of the Covenant hosted the event and Southside
Baptist Church participated. Wendy Clayton, a member of the First
Church of Christ, Scientist, gave a Bible reading. David Carboni,
pastor of Highlands United Methodist Church said in his sermon,
"We don't always thank and we don't always acknowledge that
God is with us." The problem with this statement is that
the Muslim's god and the Christian Scientist's god and the liberal
Protestant's god is not the God of the Bible. Further, Jesus
Christ said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no
man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). Well
did the apostle Paul say, "Be ye not unequally yoked together
with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with
unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"

- STUDY SHOWS POP MUSIC'S IMMORAL INFLUENCE ON YOUNG PEOPLE
- December 1, 2006 - The Rand Corporation published a study
in the August issue of Pediatrics magazine that shows the powerful
influence of pop music on the behavior of youth. The study, based
on interviews with nearly 1,500 teens, found that those who listen
to sexually explicit music are almost twice as likely to start
having sex within the following two years than those who listen
to little or none of that music ("Pop Music's Sex Ed,"
Washington Times, Aug. 21, 2006). Of course this is not rocket
science. The Bible says, "Be not deceived: evil communications
corrupt good manners" (1 Cor. 15:33). Study director Steven
Martino observed that the sexual references in pop songs have
become increasingly direct and are marketed to young teenagers
through the likes of MTV. In fact, a great many of the lyrics
are unprintable in a Christian magazine. The Rand study found
that the sexual content in popular music is even more rampant
than it is in TV, movies, magazines, and newspapers. If ever
there were a day when preachers need to be lifting a loud and
clear voice against the evil of pop music and parents need to

- POLYGAMIST LEADER ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- December 14, 2006 - A judge ordered
the leader of a polygamist sect Thursday to stand trial on charges
of rape as an accomplice on allegations that he forced a 14-year-old
girl to marry and have sex with an older cousin in 2001.
- Warren Jeffs, 51, pleaded not guilty Thursday in state court.
The leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints could face up to life in prison if convicted.
- The woman, now 20, was not in the courtroom to hear Washington
County Judge James Shumate's decision. She testified last month
that she felt "completely trapped and defeated" during
a ceremony at a Nevada motel - the "darkest time of my entire
life." The woman, identified as Jane Doe No. 4, left the
sect after 3 1/2 years, remarried and had a baby last week. Jeffs'
defense team contends he is being pursued for his religious beliefs.
- In his closing argument, defense attorney Wally Bugden told
Shumate he would be making a "factual leap" to find
probable cause for a trial. "Saying I don't want to get
married is not the same as saying I don't want to have intercourse,"
Bugden said. The FLDS sect traces its roots to early Mormon theology,
which promoted plural marriage. The modern Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints disavows polygamy and renounced the practice
in 1890 as a condition of Utah's statehood.
- Members of the FLDS consider themselves "fundamentalist
Mormons" who continue to believe polygamy will bring glory
in heaven. They also consider Jeffs a prophet of God with dominion
over their salvation.
- Many sect members live in the twin towns of Hildale, Utah,
and Colorado City, Ariz.
- Jeffs also faces felony charges in Arizona, accused there
of arranging a marriage between a 16-old-girl and a 28-year-old
man, who was already married. Jeffs, at the time one of the FBI's
Ten Most Wanted fugitives, was arrested Aug. 28 in a traffic
stop on Interstate 15 just north of Las Vegas. He is being held
without bail in county jail.

- Even though Polygamist Prophet Warren Jeffs remains behind
bars awaiting the continuation of his preliminary hearing later
this week, his grip on the people in the polygamist communities
of Colorado City, Arizona and Hildale, Utah remains undiminished.
- Last week the organization that certifies police officers
in Arizona released a letter from Marshall Fred Barlow - the
top cop in both towns. Marshal Barlow asked for advice on a pending
hire, and their pledged his support for Jeffs. He wrote, “I
follow the directives that you have sent to me… I have felt
a unity between the peace officers. They have all stated to me
their desire to follow the directives. I do know that I and all
of the other officers have expressed our desire to stand with
you.” The letter was written in October 2005 when Warren
Jeffs was a federal fugitive.
- Now, the town councils of both Hildale and Colorado City
are apparently stonewalling efforts to get approval for a survey
of UEP property. UEP, or United Effort Plan, is a trust that
controls just about all of the land in the twin towns. The surveys
are necessary to again allow the buying and selling of UEP property.
Warren Jeffs used to control the UEP and its estimated $110 million
dollars in assets. Those who have left or been kicked out by
Jeffs say the UEP was just one of the vehicles he used to exercise

The expected presidential candidacy of Massachusetts Gov. Mitt
Romney has brought new attention to The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints since Romney would be the first Mormon president.
The LDS church is one of the fastest-growing religions in the
world, due in part to its unparalleled lay volunteerism - for
missionary work, humanitarian projects and church leadership.
But Latter-day Saints say they are badly misunderstood. Here,
in question-and-answer form, is a look at the Mormon church:
- Q: How did the church get its start?
- A: Joseph Smith, considered a prophet by Mormons, said that
in 1827 an angel gave him golden plates inscribed in an unknown
language that were buried near Palmyra, N.Y. He said the plates
told the history of ancient ancestors of American Indians, who
migrated to the New World from Israel and were visited by Jesus.
Smith said God miraculously empowered him to understand the language
and dictate the sacred Book of Mormon. The angel then retrieved
the plates.
- Q: How did church headquarters end up in Salt Lake City?
- A: Smith and early Mormons were attacked as heretics and
were hounded out of New York, Ohio and Missouri. Smith was tarred
and feathered and jailed, then murdered in 1844 by a mob in Illinois.
The persecuted Mormons eventually settled in what became the
state of Utah.
- Q: How big is the church?
- A: The church lists membership at 12.6 million worldwide,
with more than half living outside the U.S. The church does not
release reports on its finances, but is believed to have billions

quiz. Who or what is Hezbollah? What branch of the Islamic faith
is followed by most of those in al-Qaida? What is the difference
between Sunnis and Shiites? OK, pencils down. If you failed this
test, you’re in good company. Last week, Rep. Silvestre
Reyes, D-Texas, was asked similar questions by a reporter for
Congressional Quarterly magazine. He failed. “Al-Qaida,
they have both,” Reyes said in response to whether al-Qaida
is made up mostly of Sunni or Shiite Muslims. “Predominantly
— probably Shiite.” In fact, al-Qaida is a Sunni organization
that considers the Shiite sect to be heretical. This is part
of the reason some believe they are fueling the insurgency in
Iraq, which is 65 percent Shiite and has a majority Shiite government.
When asked the same question about the Lebanese terrorist organization
Hezbollah, Reyes laughed and complained about answering such
tough questions early in the morning.
- Reyes has been chosen by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.,
as the next chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. The
position is one of the most important in Congress, charged with
scrutinizing the information the president uses to make anti-terror
or war decisions. Reyes’ fumble highlights what many people
do and don’t know about Islam. In A.D. 632, the prophet
Mohammed, the founder of Islam, died, leaving open the question
of who would lead the religion. In the decades that followed,
Shia began to believe only direct descendants of Mohammed should
lead the religion. Sunnis did not care as much about the lineage
and believed the leader or “caliph” should be elected

- HOW TO BE A POPULAR PREACHER TODAY
- Church News Notes, December 8, 2006 - Joel Osteen, pastor
of America's largest church, is a living example of how to be
a popular preacher in this apostate age. The key is to preach
a positive message that doesn't deal plainly with sin, repentance,
and judgment. About 38,000 people attend his Sunday services
in Houston, and his sermons are broadcast in more than 200 markets
in the United States as well as on major networks in Canada,
Europe, Australia, Asia, and the Middle East. He fills massive
arenas throughout America, and his 2004 book Your Best Life Now
has sold 4 million copies. Recently he was in Tampa, Florida,
and the St. Petersburg Times ran a front-page report on the meetings
entitled "God's Cheerleader." There is no way that
a major secular newspaper in America today would run such an
affirmative report on a preacher who is faithful to the Word
of God. Notice how Osteen's message is described: "Osteen's
easy-going, all-inclusive gospel has made him a spiritual rock
star. He's unrelentingly positive, more Norman Vincent Peale
than Pat Robertson. His deliberately nonjudgmental sermons ...
have made him into a bestselling author who is even popular among
agnostics and atheists. Osteen's positive messages--recent sermon
topics include 'Having Confidence in Yourself' and 'Stop Listening
to the Accusing Voices'--have helped make him a religious man.
He touts a loving God. There is no condemnation. No talk of judgment
or damnation" ("God's Cheerleader," St. Petersburg
Times, Nov. 26, 2006, p. 10A). Osteen is no doubt sincere in
what he is doing, but he is sincerely and terribly wrong. The
Lord Jesus Christ was a fire and brimstone preacher, and every
God-ordained preacher is commanded to preach the Word with reproof,
rebuke, and exhortation" (2 Timothy 4:2). The Scriptures
warn that many will turn away their ears from the truth in the
last days and after their own lusts will heap to themselves teachers,
having itching ears (2 Timothy 4:3-4). Sadly, that is exactly
what America's favorite pastor is doing. He is scratching the
itching ears of those who have rejected the plain teaching of
the Bible and desire, instead, a new type of Christianity, one
with a smiley face, one that allows them to live pretty much
as they please, to follow their own lusts, and still feel that
they are right with God. Significantly, Osteen's nickname is
the "smiling preacher."

- Church News Notes, December 8, 2006 - For the second time
in five years a pope has attended worship in an Islamic mosque.
On November 30, 2006, Benedict XVI prayed with Muslims in the
Blue Mosque in Turkey. The pope stood with Muslims facing toward
Mecca and prayed silently. In 2001 John Paul II visited a mosque
in Syria. Following Benedict's visit to the Blue Mosque, the
head Islamic mufti in Istanbul, Mustafa Carici, said there is
"a spring ahead for this world." The peace sought by
the pope is a false one. There will be no peace in this wicked
world until Jesus Christ, the Price of Peace, sits on the throne
of the world, and that will not happen until after the fierce
judgments of the Day of the Lord. Pope Benedict also used the
visit to Turkey to further unity between Roman Catholicism and
Greek Orthodoxy. After visiting the Hagia Sophia, which has been
an Orthodox church as well as a Muslim mosque, the Pope wrote:
"In our diversity, we find ourselves before faith in the
one God." Unity in religious diversity is not the mark of
the New Testament Christian faith; it is the mark of the great

- SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION TEAMS UP WITH KEN BLANCHARD AND
ERWIN MCMANUS
- Southern Baptist Convention continues to make the descent
into spiritual formation (i.e., contemplative spirituality).
At their upcoming (Feb. 2007) On Target Evangelism conference,
speakers will be New Age sympathizer Ken Blanchard and emerging
church proponent, Erwin McManus. In addition to Blanchard's long
history, including current activity, of promoting New Age authors
and teachers (with a particular focus on meditation), Blanchard
is on the board of the Hoffman Institute, home of the Hoffman
Quadrinity Process. McManus, author of The Barbarian Way, says:
"My goal is to destroy Christianity as a world religion
and be a catalyst for the movement of Jesus Christ ... Some people
are upset with me because it sounds like I'm anti-Christian.
I think they might be right."- While it is not surprising
to see Southern Baptist Convention take another big step into
apostasy, it is disheartening to watch it happen. So many unaware
people are going to get sucked into the spiritual deception that

- YOGA FOR KIDS ON THE RISE
- Yoga for kids is on the rise, and if your child attends public
school, you may want to check to see if they are teaching him
or her yoga. A program called YogaEd provides yoga classes under
the heading of "health/wellness" programs for schools.
Those programs take place in several states including California,
Colorado, New York, Washington and Washington, DC.
- Parents whose kids are in Christian schools may need to be
concerned too. More and more churches and Christian organizations
are opening their doors to the practice of Yoga. And the biggest
Christian publisher, Thomas Nelson, published a book titled Yoga
for Christians earlier this year. It's just a matter of time
before kids in Christian schools will be learning Yoga and eventually
the art of meditation.
- It is tragic to know that countless public school children
are being taught eastern mysticism and will learn how to say
"Namaste (the god in me greets the god in you) before they
learn that they can have a relationship with God through Jesus
Christ without going into altered states through meditation.
And it is equally tragic that much of Christendom will not be
able to help them because they are doing the same practices through

- ATM TITHING
- Church News Notes, December 15, 2006 - A new company has
begin placing ATM-style tithing machines in churches in America
and expects to have 15 in place by the end of the year. They
are Automatic Tithe Machines. SecureGive was formed by Church
of God pastor Marty Baker who found that tithing increased when
he placed a tithing machine outside of his church in Augusta,
Georgia, in 2005. His church has seen an 18% jump in offerings.
The first time that I saw this was at City Harvest Church in
Singapore. They had three ATM-style tithing machines in place
