Whereas Olmert had, at a meeting with Putin a year ago, alluded at the possibility of such an option, the Israeli this week let it be known that it exists. Wrote Keinon: "Olmert ... went [to Moscow this time] to underscore Israel's sense of urgency in taking action now." According to an official in Olmert's entourage, the two leaders extensively discussed the Iranian nuclear issue in a three-hour meeting that was almost entirely held in private. Keinon recalled Olmert's words to Putin on October 18, 2006 when the Israeli told the KGB officer made president Iran had better reverse its nuclear course or "something will happen to them that they don't want." Just hours after the two leaders emerged from a three-hour meeting in the Kremlin and Olmert flew home, Putin revealed he had been unmoved by the visit, declaring he remained opposed to economically strong-arming Tehran into changing course. He earlier let Olmert know Russia also rejected a military solution to the standoff, saying he preferred to engage the Iranians in "constructive dialogue." The Russian's intransigence on Iran is understood to be in line with his plans to re-establish his country's Soviet-era influence over the Middle East. Western analysts say Putin has megalomanic ambitions; that he is maneuvering in readiness to declare himself Czar of a Russia allied with a number of internationally- blacklisted states, including North Korea, Iran and Syria. Olmert's suddenly announced decision to pay a one-day visit to Moscow came a day after Putin made a state visit to Tehran, during which the Russian let it be known he had seen no evidence the mullahs were pursuing nuclear weapons. But Putin’s assertion that the world needed to dialogue with Iran to stop it from going down the wrong nuclear road gave the lie to that statement. Dugard said in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Monday that the Quartet, which also includes Russia, the United States and the European Union, is “heavily influenced” by the U.S., weakening the international group’s effectiveness. “Every time I visit, the situation seems to have worsened,” he said. “This time, I was very struck by the sense of hopelessness among the Palestinian people.” That hopelessness was also noted in a report by the Economist magazine, albeit attributed to different causes. Dugard added that the U.N. “does itself little good” by remaining in the Quartet, due to human rights violations by Israel in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Israel’s security checkpoints, which have enabled the IDF to prevent dozens of intended terrorist attacks, are used as a method of collective punishment against the Arab population, he said, “to make the life of Palestinians as miserable as possible.” Yitzchak Levanon, Israel's Ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, says that Dugard and the entire U.N. The Temple Mount is the Jewish people's holiest site. Arab and other Muslim leaders and clerics, who assert that the hill is Islam's third holiest site, have long and fiercely maintained that the Jews have no historical connection or claim to the outcrop the Bible calls God's "holy hill." While secular Jews often appear content to limit their "right" to the Western Wall, Israelis who have the fear of the Lord and who know that their nation's First and Second Temples were built on top of the mount will not agree to relinquishing it to the followers of another god. Zalman Shoval, a former ambassador to the United States, and traditionally a right thinker on Israeli security issues, told a meeting of the Foreign Press Association that the Likud - which is led by former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu - could allow an Arab or Muslim country to administer the site for the sake of securing peace for Israel. "It is not in Israel's interest to be in any way in charge of the holy places other than those of the Jewish faith," the secular Shoval said, adding he believed there were "ways to adopt formulae to this end." Using politico-speech (universally known as the language of compromise) Shoval first insisted that "the question of Israel's sovereignty in Jerusalem, and first and foremost the Temple Mount, is not negotiable." But he then reminded his audience that "actually there have been plans for a long time" to find a way around this "immovable" political reality. The Cardinal speaks Yiddish! Jean Marie Cardinal Lustiger was buried yesterday; he died this week of cancer. He was born almost 81 years ago to Polish parents who ran a dress shop in Paris. When the German army marched in his parents sent him and his sister into hiding with a Catholic family in Orleans. Their mother was captured and sent to Auschwitz. In 1999 as Cardinal of Paris, Jean Marie Lustiger took part in reading of the names of France's day of remembrance of Jews who had been deported and murdered. He came to the name Gesele Lustiger, paused, teared and said, my mama. The effect in France during a time of revived anti-Semitism was electric. He was just 13 and in hiding when he converted to Catholicism, not to escape the Nazis he always said, because no Jew could escape by conversion, and not of trauma, he said. It was pretty much an uneventful time except for the word the Lord spoke to me. On the way up to the Galilee we went up to the top of Mt. Tabor, while we were up on this high mountain I so clearly felt the Lord say I want to give you a sign. So as we stood in prayer and silence with such an awesome view of the valley below I looked to see what the sign might be. But even as I looked at the many people up riding the winds on special parachutes, I did not sense anything in the spirit. We felt such a peace, it was incredible. But I did not sense any of this to be the sign, and we ultimately left knowing that our time on Mt. Tabor (Har Tavor in Hebrew) was over. When we finally got to our destination on the mountain over looking the Sea of Galilee, and moved into our room. We went out to sit and have a coffee, and just enjoy the peace and quite, with again an awesome view. While just relaxing and looking out, an Israeli flag on the property caught my eye, as it was blowing in the wind. We soon went down to have a bite to eat and stroll the town centre, after which we went back to the Hostel we were staying at. As we sat again looking out at the view, my eye again was caught by the Israeli flag. But this time when I saw the flag it was torn on top and at the bottom, and I immediately knew this was the sign the Lord was telling me about. The top of the flag was torn right along the blue line about 30% of the way and the bottom also along the blue line was torn about 15%, and I began to understand the sign. I feel the Lord was saying I am about to tear Israel geographically and nationally I will tear my people Israel. And immediately I said Lord why, again shall we suffer the loss of our land and the pain of your dealing with us your people. And His answer was short and direct, He answered by these verses of scripture. Hosea 6:1,3 "Come let us return to the Lord, He has TORN us to pieces but he will heal us, he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. 3) Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. I do not know how or when this will happen, but the part I'm praying for and waiting for is, "As surely as the sun rises, he will appear", and the Lord knows we need rain both in the natural and spirit. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is at it again- undermining the very foundations of the Holy Land! This time he has granted the Muslim custodians of the Temple Mount permission to dig unsupervised on the sacred site, and at night no less, where bulldozers don’t discriminate dirt from a precious antiquity! Ancient articles proving that Jews were on the Mount are dug up and discarded by the Muslims. Israeli archeologists know that the Muslims will no doubt dispose of such sacred treasures as they continue to deny the historical reality of Israel’s history. The last time the Waqf (Islamic clerics and custodians of the Mosque of Omar and the al-Aksa Mosque) conducted an unsupervised excavation on the Temple Mount in 1997, the Muslim custodians ultimately were caught by Israeli authorities disposing of truckloads of Mount dirt that contained Jewish Temple artifacts from both the first and the second temple periods. As I have mentioned in previous issues the the O.S., Palestinian leaders routinely deny well-documented Jewish ties to the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism. The Muslims gained permission from Olmert’s government by saying they needed to dig to install new electrical and telephone lines inside of their al-Aksa Mosque. The government of Jordan helped convince Olmert by petitioning on behalf of the Waqf. The Waqf also began digging a massive tunnel that snakes from the Al Aqsa Mosque to the nearby Dome of the Rock, bringing in heavy equipment for the work. There is no Israeli archaeological supervision of all this digging. Which means anything of value can be looted or thrown away. The Temple Mount is already in danger of collapse from the numerous porous ancient tunnels under the surface. Perhaps the Muslims will succeed in bringing down their own Mosques! In an interesting footnote, Waqf official and chief Palestinian Justice Taysir Tamimi claimed the Jewish Temples "never existed." The Palestinian cleric denied the validity of dozens of digs verified by experts worldwide revealing Jewish artifacts from the First and Second Temples, tunnels that snake under the Temple Mount and over 100 ritual immersion pools believed to have been used by Jewish priests to cleanse themselves before services. Asked about the Western Wall, Tamimi said the wall where merely a place where Muhammad tied up his horse and it was always part of the Al Aqsa Mosque, even though the Wall predates the mosque by more than 1,000 years! We should remember the history of the Temple Mount: Top of Form The First Jewish Temple was built by King Solomon in the 10th century B.C. It was destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. The Second Temple was rebuilt in 515 B.C. after Jerusalem was freed from Babylonian captivity. That temple was destroyed by the Roman Empire in A.D. 70. Each temple stood for a period of about four centuries. The Jewish Temple was the center of Jewish life and worship. The “Holy of Holies,” (the place where God’s presence dwelt) and the Ark of the Covenant were in the Temple. Without the Temple on the Mount, Jews cannot offer sacrifices. Today the Muslim Al Aqsa Mosque occupies this sacred site. The Al Aqsa Mosque was built around 709 A. D. and serves as a shrine near another shrine, the Dome of the Rock. Jerusalem is not mentioned in the Koran (Quran) though Muslims insist Jerusalem is their third holiest site after Mecca and Medina. God cries! He also said nations shouldn't pursue oil pipeline projects in the area if they weren't backed by regional powers. And while Putin delivered smiling support to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he kept the president’s nuclear ambitions at arm's length, reports CBS News correspondent Richard Roth. At a summit of the five nations that border the inland Caspian Sea, Putin said none of the nations' territory should be used by any outside countries for use of military force against any nation in the region. It was a clear reference to long-standing rumors that the U.S. was planning to use Azerbaijan, a former Soviet republic, as a staging ground for any possible military action against Iran. "We are saying that no Caspian nation should offer its territory to third powers for use of force or military aggression against any Caspian state," Putin said. Ahmadinejad also underlined the need to keep outsiders away from the Caspian. "All Caspian nations agree on the main issue - that all aspects related to this sea must be settled exclusively by littoral nations," he said. "The Caspian Sea is an inland sea and it only belongs to the Caspian states, therefore only they are entitled to have their ships and military forces here." Putin, whose trip to Tehran is the first by a Kremlin leader since World War II, warned that energy pipeline projects crossing the Caspian could only be implemented if all five nations that border the Caspian support them. Putin did not name any specific country, but his statement underlined Moscow's strong opposition to U.S.-backed efforts to build pipelines to deliver hydrocarbons to the West bypassing Russia. "Projects that may inflict serious environmental damage to the region cannot be implemented without prior discussion by all five Caspian nations," he said. The Waqf has steadfastly denied they found or destroyed any Jewish antiquities during their dig. Eilat Mazar, considered one of the most prominent Temple Mount archaeologists, analyzed the photo and told WND the damaged stone displays elements of the second Temple era and might be part of a Jewish Temple wall Israeli archeologists charge the Waqf found and has been attempting to destroy. If authenticated, the wall would be one of the most important Temple Mount archaeological discoveries in recent history. "It looks like Second Temple antiquity and could very well be part of a Second Temple courtyard wall," Mazer said. She said in order to certify the stone in the photo, she would need to personally inspect it. But Israel is blocking leading archaeologists from surveying massive damage Islamic authorities are accused of causing to what may be the outer wall of the Second Jewish Temple. Last month, the Waqf, the Muslim custodians of the Temple Mount, were given permission by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to use bulldozers and other heavy equipment to dig a large trench they say is necessary to replace electrical cables. The dig is being protected by the Israeli police and is supposed to be supervised by the Israeli government's Antiquities Authority. The Antiquities Authority has not halted the dig and has not inspected the site. The Waqf has continued using bulldozers to blast away at the trench containing the wall. The Antiquities Authority did not return repeated requests for comment. Leading Temple Mount archaeologists, including Mazar and Gavriel Barkai, petitioned the Israeli government to immediately halt the dig and allow experts to inspect the emerging wall. But Mazar and other archaeologists say they are being blocked by the Israeli government. "The Antiquities Authority tells us to coordinate with the police. The police send us back to the Antiquities Authority," said Mazar, who is a professor of Hebrew University and member of the Public Committee for Prevention of the Destruction of Antiquities on Temple Mount. Mazar also is the discoverer and lead archaeologist of Israel's City of David, believed to be the palace of the biblical King David, the second leader of a united Kingdom of Israel, who ruled from around 1005 to 965 B.C. "It's crucial this wall is inspected. The Temple Mount ground level is only slightly above the original Temple Mount platform, meaning anything found is likely from the Temple itself," the archaeologist said. Fed up, Mazar and other top archaeologists last week ascended the Mount to hold a news conference and inspect the site without government permission, but they were blocked from the trench by the Israeli police. "It is unconscionable that the Israeli government is permitting the Waqf to use heavy equipment to chop away at the most important archeological site in the country without supervision," Mazar told WND. "The Israeli government is actively blocking us from inspecting the site and what may be a monumental find and is doing nothing while the Waqf destroys artifacts at Judaism's holiest site," she said. Rabbi Chaim Rechman, director of the international department at Israel's Temple Institute, was among those on the Mount last week with Mazar. He told WND he attempted to take pictures of the damage the bulldozers are allegedly wrecking on the wall, but his digital camera was confiscated by Israeli police at the direction of Waqf officials. "If Israel was building a shopping mall and they found what may be an ancient Buddhist structure, the government would stop the construction and have archaeologists go over the area with a fine tooth comb. Bush´s planned Middle East peace conference fails, extremists among the Palestinians would be strengthened. Egypt and other Arab countries have been pressing Washington to prepare a detailed agenda for the meeting, expected to take place in November near Washington. Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations, an influential think tank in New York, Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said it was vital for Washington to do as much preparation as it did before the 1978 Camp David accords that led to a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. "We need to understand where we are heading and the end game -- the end game for the settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians," he said. While only 30 people contacted the Israeli embassy in Berlin with a request to concede their nationality last year, 150 have already done so in 2007. According to German law, applicants who wish to acquire German citizenship must give up their former nationality, except in cases of Jews who were persecuted by the Nazis, or of children of mixed couples in which one of the parents is German and the other is not. The German authorities easily grant unlimited residency permits to Israeli immigrants who are registered as members of one of the Jewish communities in the country or who are married to German nationals. Permit holders enjoy most of the rights given to citizens, save for the right to vote in elections, or to be elected. U.S. diplomats have seized on the confirmation provided by an IAEA report finalized last week that Iran is continuing to enrich uranium and to build what would be a plutonium-making heavy-water reactor - in defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions, as well as those of the IAEA's own board. However, the same report declared that Iran had made "a significant step forward" by agreeing to a work plan for addressing remaining issues about its nuclear facilities and capabilities. IAEA officials suggest that if Iran carries out its promises, outstanding questions could be answered by the end of this year. Iran welcomed the report, contending that it showed U.S. accusations that it is pursuing nuclear weapons were groundless. That reaction was perhaps predictable. More worrying for the administration, IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei, in interviews with the New York Times and the German weekly Der Spiegel, hailed the Iranian agreement as unprecedented and worthy of giving Iran the limited time it prescribes to show its peaceful intentions. In a letter sent to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Syria warns Israel that its "outrageous aggression" will have serious consequences. Syria "insists that the continuing silence of the international community vis-à-vis Israel's illegal act will place the region as well as the peace and security of both countries in the face of uncontrollable tragedies," read the letter. A copy of the letter was also sent to the Security Council. "Israel is determined to choose aggression instead of peace and by doing so it reveals its true intentions that it tries to hide using fake claims of seeking peace in the region," the letter said. The Syrian government said last week that Israeli jets entered Syria's airspace from the Mediterranean Sea and jettisoned fuel tanks near the Turkish border when intercepted by Syrian air-defense systems. The report states that Israel has agreed to begin destroying Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria immediately following the US-sponsored international summit this coming November. The PA claims that the document's eight points represent the principles of agreement between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas, in anticipation of the upcoming Middle East summit. The document begins by stating that Israel and the PA are to immediately enter a process "that will lead to the formation of two states, Israel and Palestine, side by side," and are "to reach understandings of the type detailed below." The eight points upon which Olmert and Abbas undertake to agree are the following: 1. Israel will end the occupation of the West Bank within an agreed-upon time period. The retreat and the evacuation of the settlements will occur gradually and in several stages. Each area that is evacuated will be transferred to the Palestinian Authority, which will instill law and order there.
