(CodePink) By Bianca Zammit - Gaza As the days of December 2009 draw in, two events which each have a role to play in world peace draw closer. The first is on the 27th and is commemorating the start of the 22 day attacks on Gaza, an operation which targeted unarmed civilians, schools, hospitals, journalists and emergency staff. The second, The Gaza Freedom March will take place on the 31st. The Gaza Freedom March is a historic moment, the magnitude of which has not been seen in Palestine since 1967. Chiseled on the lessons learnt from South Africa' struggle for liberation against apartheid and from Gandhi' Satyagraha approach during the campaign for India' independence, the Gaza Freedom March is walking in the same shoes. In order to find out more about the Gaza Freedom March I met up with Dr. Haidar Eid, a member of the Steering Committee for the March in Gaza. What is the aim of the Gaza Freedom March? The goal of the Gaza Freedom March is to commemorate Gaza 2009. In January 2009 right after the end of operation Cast Lead we were all faced again by the deadly hermitic siege. The March is calling for an end to this siege. How did the Gaza Freedom March come about? In June CodePink led a delegation into Gaza and they started talking about a march. I was contacted by Palestinian solidarity groups from around the world and asked for my opinion. I liked the idea but it required a political context and it needed to be led by the people of Gaza. That is when Palestinian grassroots organizations came together to discuss the march and we suggested to the International Coalition to End the Siege that they include a statement of context which called for an end to the siege and which acknowledged the long history of Palestinian non-violent direct action inspired by South Africa and Gandhi. This includes the weekly demonstrations which take place at Bilin, Nilin and Al' Masara, the entry of international boats in Gaza' port which had not happened since 1967 and the work of international solidarity movements. More importantly, it has to acknowledge the growing BDS campaign. Continued: http://www.palestinechronicle.com/ ----- MISS PALESTINE PAGEANT CANCELLED December 21, 2009 Israel Today Staff - The Palestinian Authority on Sunday cancelled the first Miss Palestine beauty pageant scheduled to be held in the de facto Palestinian capital of Ramallah, arguing that it would coincide with the anniversary of last year's Gaza war. The Jerusalem Post reported that the PA threatened to punish the event's organizers if they went forward with the pageant. It was also suspected that pressure from Hamas, which had used the pageant to further sully the image of the PA in the eyes of conservative Muslims, had contributed to its cancellation. Organizers of the pageant said some 200 young Arab girls from Judea, Samaria and sovereign Israel had applied, and 58 had been chosen to take part in the contest. http://www.israeltoday.co.il/default.aspx?tabid=178&nid=20214 ----- HEBRON EMBROILED IN LOUDSPEAKER WAR BETWEEN JEWS, MUSLIMS The Jewish and Muslim residents of the Judean city of Hebron are embroiled in a noise-making war that some security officials fear will boil over into armed confrontation. The very small Jewish community in Hebron said they, like the non-Muslim residents of many cities around the world, have been made to endure disruptive Muslim prayers blasted from the tops of local mosques five times a day for decades. Recently, some of the city's Jews decided to make a point by responding in kind and playing loud Hassidic music from a Jewish event hall in the center of town. Israeli police officers ended that practice. But Israel's Ynet news portal reports that the same group of Jews has now resurfaced playing the same music, this time from loudspeakers mounted atop a vehicle. The vehicle drives through the streets of Hebron playing the music, but promptly disappears whenever the police approach. A spokesman for the Hebron Jewish community said the Muslim loudspeakers were only a small example of the harassment local Jews are subjected to, which also includes beatings and house invasions. Tolerance does not mean endorsing Muslim violence and lawlessness - Ludwig Schneider January 28, 2009 - Tolerance is only worth the sum of its motives. And there are all sorts of motives for tolerance. One is shallowness, which simply cannot be bothered to examine another person’s argument more carefully. Another is cowardice, which will tolerate anything out of fear of confrontation or reprisals. Because we are afraid of the Islamists, our tolerance towards them turns us into their partners in crime. In 1776, Prussian King Frederick the Great wrote the following to French philosopher and writer Voltaire: “In any society, tolerance allows every citizen the freedom to believe whatever he wants; however, it should not go so far as to endorse the insolence and the lawlessness of evildoers.” In other words, a democracy must be intolerant of evil, otherwise it will become a pawn in the hands of terrorists. The Greek word for fish is ichthys—IXTYS—which became an acronym for Iesous Christos Theou Hyios Soter—Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. As the first church of Jewish believers had their own bishop during the first two centuries—a man who had to be full of the Holy Spirit and also a descendant of the house of David so that he was physically linked to the Messiah—they had their own identifying symbol. However, after the non-Jewish Christians grew throughout the world and began to outnumber the small group of Jewish Christians, it was not only the bishop that disappeared but also the Messianic congregation together with its early Christian symbol. By Sara Fischer Due to the daily tension consuming the lives of both Jews and Arabs in Israel, peace between the two people groups is almost non-existent. Even among believers here, segregated worship has become the norm. Nevertheless, during a recent three-day conference in Jerusalem Jews and Arabs united together for one purpose: prayer. By Sara Fischer More than 3,000 delegates from the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel gathered for the first time in Jerusalem for the annual Foursquare Convention. With the theme, “On Earth as It Is in Heaven,” the international conference on worship, prayer and global witness embraced a vision for Israel. “My prayer was for there to be enlightenment of God’s grace in the hour for Israel and that is happening,” Pastor Jack Hayford told Israel Today. “It’s not happening through education, but through revelation.” Hayford is founder of Church on the Way in the Los Angeles area and president of the Foursquare denomination. There are Foursquare churches in 145 countries. Hayford, who has fostered relations with Jews in his hometown in California’s San Fernando Valley for more than 30 years—some of whom have come to faith in Yeshua—prominently featured Messianic Jews at the conference. Many Christian organizations in Israel tend to be overly cautious in their relationship with Messianic Jews to avoid offending their Israeli hosts, but Hayford said the Foursquare Church stands unashamed with Israel’s Jewish believers and featured several Messianic leaders as key speakers. “We realize there’s caution, but there’s no reason to be cautious,” Hayford said. “We need to have a sense of boldness to stand with the Church in Israel today. The Messiah calls us to stand.” Members of Foursquare churches caught for the first time, or fostered the vision they already had, to support and stand with Israel. “My heart is now more for supporting ministry to help Jews fall in love with Yeshua,” said Elena Galbraith, a member of Northwest Church in Washington state. “I don’t feel equipped to minister, but in this Land the ministries are powerful.” Galbraith’s husband, Jeremy, added that the trip to the Holy Land was “wonderful and illuminating and allowed the Bible to become three-dimensional.” Ken Medema led worship at the conference. Though blind, Medema’s prophetic vision for bringing the Word to life through his music ministry has enabled him to impact lives worldwide, including participants at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem. Early morning worship and prayer services were led by Robert Stearns, founder of Eagles Wings ministry. Delegates arose early to spend time in prayer for the nation of Israel. Conference speakers included Ari Sorko-Ram, leader of a Messianic congregation in Tel Aviv and founder of Maoz ministries; and pastors Asher Intrater and Wayne Hilsden. Either way, he’s a dangerous man in dangerous times, a man who Israel deported in 1996. Ben-Ariel believes Israel should forcefully take back The Temple Mount from Muslim control. He believes Germany and The Vatican are under Satan’s influence and are conspiring to restore the Holy Roman Empire and destroy the United States and Great Britain. He believes that after Germany imposes its will on the European Union, it will attack the United States with nuclear weapons. Now living in East Toledo, Ben-Ariel sends his views to the world via two web sites and numerous internet forums. Google his name and you’ll get 4,860 references. David’s been a very busy man. And now he’s written a book called Beyond Babylon; Europe’s Rise and Fall. He calls the book, “God’s final warning before the German blitzkrieg begins.” Ben-Ariel’s views first landed him in trouble with Israeli authorities in 1996. He says he was arrested in a suspected plot to blow up the Al Aqsa Mosque built on The Temple Mount, the site of the Holy Temple where Jesus Christ taught. Ben-Ariel spent three weeks in an Israeli jail and was released without being charged. He was deported and banned from applying for a Visa until this year. Ben-Ariel says he was arrested because he was protesting the occupation of the Temple Mount and his beliefs were contrary to the softer position of Israel’s Left. He claims he was misunderstood by authorities and caught up in a “witch hunt” after Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated. “I wanted it (the mosque) removed but I’ve always said that’s a government’s responsibility. I’m against abortion too and I want the government to remove all those clinics but it doesn’t mean that I’m inciting, that I’m calling for anyone to go out and blow them up. There’s a big difference. But, in Israel, they didn’t see that difference,” he said. Ben-Ariel hopes to obtain a Visa this year and move to Israel. He has visited there 11 times since 1980 living at more than 8 different kibbutzim. So, how does the son from a Baptist/Methodist family adopt such radical beliefs? David, like many Americans who find their spiritual lives unfulfilled in traditional religion, went searching for something more satisfying. He found his ring of truth in the Worldwide Church of God and the teachings of Herbert Armstrong. Today, he is a member of the Temple Mount Faithful and his mission is to urge the Israeli government to take the site from Muslim control. “I am calling upon the Israeli people to repent and as part of their national repentance to cleanse The Temple Mount of its foreign filth, those foreign mosques that occupy Judean’s most holy site.” The Palestinians should go too. “Israel should cleanse the land of this filth and their polluted mind set and remove the threat by expelling them. It’s logical. America would never tolerate a particular people saying, `We are going to take your capitol and make it ours.’” You can see why, in the tinderbox that is the Middle East, Israel officials prefer not to have the incendiary David Ben-Ariel in their country. When the beliefs of a militant Christian meet head on with the beliefs of a militant Muslim, can there be any hope for peace? In Beyond Babylon, Ben-Ariel presents his interpretation of The Bible and how he arrives at his conclusion that a Vatican-Nazi alliance will lead to our destruction, a destruction that we are hastening because of our idolatry and immorality. When this Armageddon will occur is not certain, Ben-Ariel writes. However, it will come soon. And, I suppose, the recent earthquakes, melting polar ice caps, Asian tsunami and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan provide fertile ground for those who believe in conspiracy theories. Following the text of these three documents is an article which first appeared in 1996, written by Israel Medad, in which he describes the systematic collusion between the Israel Supreme Court and the Israel Police, (as well as with the Moslem Wakf and whatever "angry Moslem mob" they throw together for the ocassion), allowing for the flagrant violation of the rights delineated by law and by Supreme Court declaration. The Supreme Court has, in effect, created a fool-proof means with which to flout the very basic rights it has upheld in its own rulings. Protection of Holy Places Law June 27, 1967 1. This means that as of next year, Hezbollah and Iran will have direct access to the Security Council. The Hezbollah organization, which was required to disarm in line with Security Council Resolution 1559 from 2004 and 1701 (in the wake of the Second Lebanon War,) is now a member of the Lebanese government – which recently decided that the group does not need to disarm. And now, the Security Council will comprise a representative of the Lebanese government, which includes the Hezbollah terror group. Lebanon native Walid Fares, who advised the Security Council in passing Resolution 1559, recently told the Fox network that given the new structure of the Lebanese government, Hezbollah will have intimate access to the Security Council. He warned that as result of Lebanon’s admission into the Security Council, it will be harder to disarm Hezbollah and to pass sanctions against Iran. The Americans are facing quite an embarrassment. They attempted to cultivate a pro-American government in Beirut, yet following all the diplomatic and economic efforts, Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri recent went to Canossa (that is, Damascus) in order to pledge his allegiance to President Bashar Assad. On Monday, Hariri met in Beirut with Iran’s foreign minister. It clearly seems that on the eve of joining the Security Council, Lebanon is falling into the hands of the Iran-Syria axis. Those who examine the Security Council’s make-up, beyond the Lebanese angle, cannot but express deep concern, as the US makes an effort to promote a decision on a fourth round of sanctions against Iran. China will be the Council’s president in January, followed by France in February, which will be a more convenient time for passing a decision. http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-3824861,00.html ----- MODEL ALTAR OF UNHEWN STONES COMPLETED AT TEMPLE INSTITUTE by Gil Ronen - (IsraelNN.com) The Temple Institute in Jerusalem announced Friday the completion of a model of the biblical altar which G-d, through Moses, commanded the nation of Israel to build at the Mount of Eval (Ebal) overlooking Shechem: “And there you shall build an altar unto Hashem your God, an altar of stones: you shall lift up no iron tool upon them. You shall build the altar of Hashem your G-d of unhewn stones.” (Dvarim / Deuteronomy 27:5,6). For many years, the Institute has been examining ways of building a model of the altar from whole stones that had not been touched by iron tools. In the end, the Institute commissioned artist Assaf Kidron of Givot Olam Farm at Itamar, Samaria, to design and create a model which conforms with the specifications described by authoritative Jewish sage Rambam (Maimonides) – one cubit wide, one cubit deep, and three cubits high. It has been placed in the Institute's visitor center. The rocks were collected from the Dead Sea as documented in the accomanying video.
