- PA: ISRAEL AGREES TO DESTROY JEWISH TOWNS, STARTING IN NOVEMBER
by Hillel Fendel - IsraelNN.com
- September 13, 2007 - The Palestinian Authority's Maan news
agency has published a copy, in Hebrew, of PM Olmert's agreement
to expel tens of thousands of Jews and replace them with a Palestinian
state. The report states that Israel has agreed to begin destroying
Jewish towns in Judea and Samaria immediately following the US-sponsored
international summit this coming November. The PA claims that
the document's eight points represent the principles of agreement
between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas,
in anticipation of the upcoming Middle East summit. The document
begins by stating that Israel and the PA are to immediately enter
a process "that will lead to the formation of two states,
Israel and Palestine, side by side," and are "to reach
understandings of the type detailed below." The eight points
upon which Olmert and Abbas undertake to agree are the following:
- 1. Israel will end the occupation of the West Bank within
an agreed-upon time period. The retreat and the evacuation of
the settlements will occur gradually and in several stages. Each
area that is evacuated will be transferred to the Palestinian
Authority, which will instill law and order there. The existence
of a regime in Gaza that is willing to be part of the peace process
will enable Israel to view Gaza and the West Bank as one political
entity. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/123663

- PM OLMERT URGES PUTIN TO BACK NEW IRAN SANCTIONS
PM
- .......Olmert and Russian
President Putin shaking hands before their meeting in Moscow
on ......Thursday. (Moshe Milner
/ GPO)
Haaretz.com - October 18, 2007
- By Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondent, and Reuters. Prime Minister
Ehud Olmert met Tuesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin,
pressing Moscow to support new sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear
activities and urging Russia not to sell arms to Iran or Syria.
Hosting Olmert for a brief, abruptly announced visit, Putin promised
to brief the Israeli leader on his talks with Iranian leaders
earlier this week and acknowledged his guest's dismay over Tehran's
nuclear program, which Israel and the United States say is aimed
at developing atomic weapons.
- A senior official in the prime minister's entourage said
that Olmert was pleased with the results of the meeting. "Russian
President Vladimir Putin exhibited great understanding of the
Israeli position regarding all matters on the agenda, especially
with the Iranian issue," the official said after the talks.
"There was an open and serious atmosphere [in the meeting]
and the prime minister is very pleased with the results of his
visit," he added. The meeting came amid mixed signals over
the issue from Putin and Russian resistance to a new, third round
of United Nations sanctions against Iran over its refusal to
halt uranium enrichment. In the Kremlin talks, Olmert expressed
his opinion that effective sanctions imposed by the international
community would have the potential to stop Iran pursuing the
nuclear path, the prime minister's spokeswoman, Miri Eisin, said.
- "Iran's nuclear program was the foremost issue, but
Olmert also conveyed Israel's concern over the Iranian and Syrian
desire to acquire from Russia the types of weapons that could
change the balance in the area," Eisin said after the meeting,
which lasted more than three hours. "The prime minister
reiterated his stance that only effective sanctions by the world
can stop Iran's nuclear aspirations," Eisin said. She added
that Olmert warned that Iran's and Syria's quest to acquire advanced
weapons systems from Russia "could change the balance of
power in the region." As they sat down, Putin told Olmert
he would share with him the results of talks he held with Iranian
leaders during his visit to Tehran earlier this week - the first
by a Kremlin leader since 1943. Continued: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/914397.html

- RABBIS 'STUNNED' OVER CONCESSIONS IN JERUSALEM
IsraelNN.com - by Hillel Fendel - October 18, 2007 - Rabbis unite
in call to strengthen Israel's hold on Jerusalem - but one says
the Israeli-Arab city Um el-Fahm and environs can be traded.
"We have been stunned and shocked to hear of the intentions
of our enemies from within and without, who speak openly about
giving away and abandoning the Temple Mount and parts of the
Jewish People's eternal capital." So begins a declaration
issued today by the Yesha (Judea and Samaria) Rabbis Council,
headed by Rabbis Dov Lior and Zalman Melamed. "The very
thought of foreign defilement and control of the Mountain of
G-d's Abode and in holy Jerusalem is shocking to every Jew. The
Nation of Israel, charged with preserving the sanctity of the
Temple Mount, the Western Wall and all of Jerusalem - east and
west - throughout the generations, will not allow these destructive,
catastrophic and irresponsible intentions to be implemented,
Heaven forbid." "Those who even mention the possibility
of abandoning the Temple Mount and of dividing Jerusalem will
be forever remembered in ignominy by the Nation of Israel."
- Rabbi Rosenne's Call
Rabbi Yisrael Rosenne, head of the Zomet Institute for Jewish
Law, Technology and Modern Society, registers his own call to
preserve Jerusalem - but throws in an unexpected add-on. In his
weekly column in Zomet's "Shabbat B'Shabbato" synagogue
pamphlet, Rabbi Rosenne writes: "...Once again Jerusalem
is under the knife on the operating table! ... Once again a trial
balloon is sent off towards the Israeli public to see how it
will respond to major concessions... But Master of the Universe,
from how many national and security assets must we divest ourselves?
We have conceded and conceded, and made gesture after gesture,
and have 'come towards' again and again; we have given up the
flowering Gush Etzion, and the Philadelphi Route, and we have
freed thousands of dangerous terrorists - but did all this move
anyone on the other side? Have we heard even the slightest peep
of true peace over there? ..."

- U.N.: INTERPRETER ERRED ON IAF SYRIA RAID
By ASSOCIATED PRESS - UNITED NATIONS - INTERNATIONAL JPOST -
Oct. 18, 2007 - The United Nations on Wednesday blamed an interpreter's
error for an erroneous report that Syria claimed an Israeli air
strike hit a Syrian nuclear facility, a mistake that made headlines
in the Middle East and heightened concerns over Damascus' nuclear
ambitions. Syria denied on Wednesday that one of its representatives
told the UN General Assembly's committee that deals with disarmament
on Tuesday that Israel had attacked a Syrian nuclear facility
and added that "such facilities do not exist in Syria."
- The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency, SANA, quoting an unnamed
Foreign Ministry source, said its representative was misquoted
- and after more than seven hours of investigation the United
Nations said that was indeed the case.
- "There was an interpretation error made yesterday when
the First Committee was in session," UN associate spokesman
Farhan Haq said. "There was no use of the word nuclear."
- "Although in English the interpreter had suggested that
the Syrian delegate had referred to an attack on a nuclear facility,
what he said was `like what happened on the 6th of September
against my country,"' Haq said. The incident started Tuesday
night with a UN press summary of the First Committee that paraphrased
an unnamed Syrian representative as saying that "Israel
was the fourth largest exporter of weapons of mass destruction
and a violator of other nations' airspace, and it had taken action
against nuclear facilities, including the 6 July attack in Syria."
- Israeli warplanes carried out an air strike in northeastern
Syria near the border with Turkey on September 6, not July 6.
The target remains unknown but widespread reports say it may
have been a nascent nuclear facility, a claim Syria has denied.
At UN headquarters in New York, the spokesman's office said Wednesday
morning the Syrian representative spoke in Arabic. After several
hours, Haq said the exact words of the English interpreter were:
"An entity that is the fourth largest exporter of weapons
of mass destruction in the world, an entity that violates other
countries' airspace, and that takes action against nuclear facilities,
including the attack on 6 July this year on a nuclear facility
in my country - that entity has no right to lie, which it has
done consistently."
- It took until late afternoon for the UN to issue the correct
translation from the original Arabic words spoken by the Syrian
representative. According to the corrected text, the Syrian delegate
said: "...the (entity) that is ranking number four among
the exporters of lethal weapons in the world; that which violates
the airspace of sovereign states and carries out military aggression
against them, like what happened on September 6 against my country,
such entity with all those characteristics and even more, has
no right for its representative to go on lying without shame..."

IRAN: BUSH WARNING ENDANGERS INTERNATIONAL PEACE
By ASSOCIATED PRESS - JPost.com - October 18, 2007 - TEHERAN,
Iran - Iran on Thursday
denounced a warning by US President George W. Bush that the Islamic
Republic's nuclear activities could lead to World War III, saying
the statement was warlike rhetoric geared at diverting US attention
from White House failures in Iraq.
- ... Bush gestures during
a press conference in the briefing room ...of
the White House. Photo: AP
RELATED: Nuclear Iran could cause 'World War III'
"The expression by the US president will eventually cause
international insecurity. This sort of policy will jeopardize
peace and security at the international level, and is a barrier
for peace," the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mohammad
Ali Hosseini, said in a statement. Hosseini said the US president
was resorting to "warlike rhetoric" to divert the American
public's attention from White House failures on international
issues such as Iraq and Afghanistan. On Wednesday, President
Bush warned that a nuclear Iran could ignite a world war. "I've
told people that if you're interested in avoiding World War III,
it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them (Iran)
from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon,"
Bush said.

- RESPONSE TO VULTURES IN ISRAEL TRACT
There have been questions about
remarks in a tract referencing statements I made about the vulture
population in Israel. I have not seen a copy of this tract and
do not know how my references to the vultures have been interpreted.
- The statements I made are on page 91-99 in my updated book,
25 Messianic Signs in Israel Today. Over the past 40 years, I
have been to Israel 50 times. When I first went to Israel there
were no vultures, as far as I know or can remember. Since then,
vultures have returned to the Gamla area, and they have been
nesting in the deep canyons on the east side of the Sea of Galilee.
- As reported to me by the park rangers at Gamla, these vultures
have been laying two to four times as many eggs as vultures usually
do. Four or five years ago there was a problem, as many of the
vultures were dying due to some type of poisoning, but this was
diagnosed and taken care of by the park employees.
- When I was at Gamla in November of 2006, dozens of buzzards
were in the sky over the area. As indicated in my book, Israel
has adopted the vulture as its national bird, and the airforce
has a no-fly policy over the area during the nesting season.
- I have no information about the increase or decrease in the
vulture population outside the Israel/Golan Heights area, nor
have I claimed to have such information. In my book as an addendum
to my remarks about buzzards, my Israeli guide, Gila Treibich,
has verified that everything I have said about the vultures is
accurate. NOAH W. HUTCHINGS http://www.swrc.com/about/about.html#vultures

- 'IRAN REVOLUTION ENDS THE 'HOLOCULT'
December
17 2006
- From: Mathaba
- "The Iran conference on the Holocaust cuts the Achilles
heel of the current Anglo-Zionist world order"
- By Dr. Sahib Mustaqim Bleher - The Iranians may not even
be aware of it, but their hosting of the recent Holocaust conference
may prove to be the most important milestone in their history
since the Islamic Revolution under Khomeini. Western politicians
and media certainly grasped the significance of the event, with
Germany's premier Merkel standing shoulder to shoulder with prime
minister Olmert of the only-democracy-in-the-middle- east-that-is-not-a-democracy"
- the apartheid state of Israel - and with BBC television news
presenting the bizarre spectacle of discussing, rather than reporting
on, an alleged anti-Semitic conference whilst the images in the
background showed traditionally clad Orthodox Jews happily in
attendance.
- When the Islam-hating Western media attacked the prophet
Muhammad under the pretence of freedom of speech, Iran retaliated
by testing the limits of those freedoms with its own holocaust
cartoon competition. In doing so they stumbled across the most
jealously guarded dogma of secular Western society, the Holocult.
Whereas questioning and reviling religious beliefs is almost
a cornerstone underpinning the mindset of those societies, even
genuine historical research into the subject of a subsection
of the 60 million who died in the second world war is prohibited
and most certainly leads to being ostracised in public: The suffering
of the Jews may not be questioned since "if it were to be
proven that The Holocaust has, in fact, been stage-managed
for political reasons in order to promote Israeli interests,
then the State of Israel and the United States as public players,
and the global Zionist organizations as private lobbying entities
would have to accept their share of responsibility for the damage,
suffering and hardship they have wrought upon the Middle East
and the world and, accordingly, they should be held accountable."

- IRAQ WILL HAVE TO WAIT
Vice President Dick

and perhaps bombard, Iran.

By Scott Ritter - September27, 2007
- The long-awaited progress report of Gen. David
Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker on the status of the occupation
of Iraq has been made, providing Americans, via the compliant
media, with the spectacle of loyal Bush yes men offering faith-based
analysis in lieu of fact-based assessment. In the days and weeks
that have since passed, two things have become clear: Neither
Congress nor the American people (including the antiwar movement)
have a plan or the gumption to confront President Bush in anything
more than cosmetic fashion over the war in Iraq, and while those
charged with oversight mill about looking to score cheap political
points and/or save face, the administration continues its march
toward conflict with Iran unimpeded.
- Bush responded to the Petraeus report by indicating that
he would be inclined to start reducing the level of U.S. forces
in Iraq sometime soon (maybe December, maybe the spring of 2008).
But the bottom line is that the troop levels in Iraq keep expanding,
as does the infrastructure of perpetual occupation. The Democrats
in Congress are focused on winning the White House in 2008, not
stopping a failed war, and as such they not only refuse to decisively
confront the president on Iraq, they are trying to out-posture
him over who would be the tougher opponent of an expansionist
Iran.
- Heres the danger: While the antiwar movement focuses
its limited resources on trying to leverage real congressional
opposition to the war in Iraq, which simply will not happen before
the 2008 election, the Bush administration and its Democratic
opponents will outflank the antiwar movement on the issue of
Iran, pushing forward an aggressive agenda in the face of light
or nonexistent opposition.
- Of the two problems (the reality of Iraq, the potential of
Iran), Iran is by far the more important. The war in Iraq isnt
going to expand tenfold overnight. By simply doing nothing, the
Democrats can rest assured that Bushs bad policy will simply
keep failing. War with Iran, on the other hand, can still be
prevented. We are talking about the potential for conflict at
this time, not the reality of war. But time is not on the side
of peace. Continued: http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20070927_ritter_stop_iran_war/

- RUSSIA WANTS TO MOVE FLEET TO SYRIA! GET READY EZEKIEL 38!
- Open Seal Prophecy News - 27 August 2007 - For some time
reports have circulated that Russia is planning to move its Black
Sea Fleet to Syria. Admiral Vladimir Masorin, Commander-in-chief
of the Russian Navy, confirmed that Russia plans to establish
a permanent naval base on the Mediterranean. Which will be of
great "strategic importance." WOW! Here they come-
look out Israel- your day of Ezekiel's vision is on the horizon.
For the first time since the end of the Cold War, Russia will
establish naval bases in the Syrian port cities of Tartus and
Latakia. Moscow is also planning to form a squadron led by the
'Moskva,' the Black Sea Fleet's flagship missile cruiser. Russia
has already began dredging at the Syrian port of Tartus for their
ships. Both the U.S. and Israel are quite wary of this new development.
Israeli officials believe that Russian naval vessels will be
used to spy on Israel. I think they are getting ready for the
strike against Israel as the bear (Russia) is brought down to
the mountains of Israel to their own destruction. For years Russia
has sought such a warm water port. I see the hook is already
in the bear's jaw! hlliscar@aol.com

- KNESSET MAJORITY. "DON'T DIVIDE JERUSALEM!
IsraelNN.com - by Hana Levi Julian - October
19, 2007 - More than half of Knesset Members from both the opposition
and the coalition factions have signed a petition against plans
to hand over parts of Jerusalem to the Palestinian Authority.
- The document rejects plans to relinquish Israels sovereignty
over holy sites in the Old City and the City of David, just outside
the Old City walls, as well as possible intentions to give eastern
Jerusalems Arab neighborhoods to the PA.
- Likud MK Yisrael Katz and other Likud MKs spearheaded the
drive, and they were quickly joined by nearly 30 coalition MKs,
including thirteen members of Prime Minister Ehud Olmerts
own Kadima party and all of Shas. Two Yisrael Beiteinu (Israel
Our Home) MKs, David Rotem and Esterina Tartman, signed the petition,
as did Yoram Marciano of Labor - the only Labor MK to do so.
Four ministers also signed the petition, including Yaakov Edry
and Zeev Boim of the Kadima party, and two others from
the Gil Pensioners party. It is possible that Olmert
could divide Jerusalem and we would have to face that reality,
but its illegitimate, especially since hes putting
Jerusalem on the agenda to distract from his other problems,
said Likud MK Reuven Rivlin.
- Olmert: Knesset Not Necessary
The prime minister asserted earlier this month that he does not
need the Knessets approval to reach a joint declaration
with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, including
one that might include an agreement to hand over parts of Jerusalem
to the PA. He has said that Jerusalem is not currently on the
negotiating table, but several plans to divide the capital have
emerged from Olmerts close associates.
- Prime Minister Olmert denied reports earlier in the week
that his government planned to give away parts of the sacred
capital, but avoided specifically defining the city limits, giving
rise to speculation that he indeed intends to give up Israels
control over some of Jerusalem.
- Summit Still Not Certain
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said she would meet again today
(Friday) with PA negotiators in an attempt to come to a pre-summit
agreement. Abbas said this week that the PA's participation
in the US-sponsored summit was not a certainty, and that the
PA would not retreat from its demands for a joint detailed pre-summit
declaration with Israel. Israel insists on only a general declaration,
with details to be ironed out later. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/123973

- IRAN TO HOLD PALESTINIAN SUMMIT SEEKS TO UNIFY PALESTINIAN
MOVEMENT
September 5, 2007 - Iranian President
Ahmadinejad will host various leaders from the Palestinian movement,
including the top leadership within Hamas, Fatah and Jihad Islami.
Participants in the meeting will include Damascus-based Hamas
leader Khaled Mashaal, Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah, Democratic
Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) leader Nayef Hawatmeh,
and the leader of the Syrian- backed Popular Front for the Liberation
of Palestine-General Command, Ahmed Jibril. In addition, senior
Fatah leader-in-exile Farouk Kadoumi, an adversary of Palestinian
Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, will join the meeting, the
report said. According to Iran's Mehr news agency, Kadoumi met
with Ahmadinejad on Tuesday. The Iranian leader praised the Palestinian
organization for staying true to the path of "armed struggle,"
the report said.
- "The Palestinian problem is still a gaping wound for
the entire Islamic world and nations of the region," Ahmadinejad
said. "The only way to treat it is through the resistance
of the Palestinian nation, along with faith, unity and an unwavering
stance." The Iranian President added that nobody was capable
of defeating the Arabs of Palestine, and promised that the world's
superpowers were headed for destruction.
- Iran's call for a summit is an effort to restore unity to
the Palestinian movement before any military conflict breaks
out between Israel and her neighbors or a US attack on Iran.
Depite President Ahmadinejad's claims that Iran is not worried
about, nor believes an US attack is likely, behind the scenes
the Iranian leadership is highly worried and working overtime
to prepare for any military clash with the United States.
- Meanwhile, Syria has suddenly become very quiet amid reports
that Syria was preparing for an attack against Israel. It may
well be that no Syrian attack will develop unless or until a
unified Palestinian front can be developed on Israel's southern
flank to create a 3-front war against Israel which would include
Gaza in the south, the West Bank on the East and Syri-Lebanon
in the north. For more on the summit to be held Thursday in Tehran,

- THERE MUST BE A DOZEN WAYS TO DESTROY YOUR COUNTRY:
- How the Jewish Supremacists Wrecked America
- zionistwatch - By Patrick Grimm - February 28, 2007
1. They have destroyed our pride in our history, and a nation
that loses its sense of history soon ceases to be a nation.
- 2. They have labeled our beloved Founding Fathers as racists
and white slavers, ignoring the great representative
republic that these men constructed.
- 3. They have promoted multiculturalism, celebrating every
culture no matter how backward and barbaric except
for Western white European culture. As Jewish Marxist intellectual
[..] Susan Sontag stated in a [...] The white race is the
cancer of humanity.
- 4. They have driven our Christian faith and heritage from
the public square by utilizing their countless criminal cadres
of ADL and ACLU Communist lawyers. Our children will soon grow
up in a society wiped clean of any vestiges of the Bible, Christ
or the cross. However, the menorah is still allowed in the White
House for Hannukah celebrations.
- 5. They have torn our borders open, permitting, indeed cheering,
the Third World dregs who will soon replace us as the majority.
The Javitzes, the Lautenbergs and Cellers meticulously designed
the legislation that will genocide us. They have done all this
while simultaneously and with no sense of irony
supporting Israels Jews-only immigration policy.

- OUTCRY OF DESPERATION
- The Christian world and top U.S. Christian leaders are being
urged to petition the Israeli government to immediately halt
a massive dig Islamic authorities are conducting on the Temple
Mount Judaism's holiest site that is said to be
destroying antiquities and what archaeologists believe is a wall
from the Second Jewish Temple. The Israeli government has barred
archaeologists from inspecting the Temple-era wall, believed
to be from the outer courtyard of the Second Temple . The wall
reportedly has been pulverized by bulldozers operated by the
Waqf, the Mount's Muslim custodians. "The Christian people
must rise up and stand with their brethren in Israel and make
their voices heard to stop this travesty," states an open
letter from Israel 's Temple Institute, an organization seeking
to promote awareness of the Temple Mount. "We are asking
Christians to do everything possible to petition the Israeli
government to halt the Waqf destruction and have archaeologists
immediately inspect the area." (The Israeli government does
not respect Jewish heritage and the rights of her own people!
It only responds to public opinion and pressure from outsiders!)

IsraelNN.com - By Gil Ronen - Israel's government has agreed,
in writing, to hand over 6,250 square kilometers of land
the equivalent of its entire biblical and strategic heartland
- to an Arab terror state. So reports Dr. Guy Bechor, a leading
expert on Arab affairs, who also supplies some of the details
of the negotiations. Bechor reports, based on "leaks from
the Palestinian side," that Israel has, in the past few
days, presented Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas
at least one draft of an "agreement of principles."
The agreement calls for a state named Palestine to be established
alongside Israel, and have a territory of 6,250 square kilometers:
the equivalent of all of Judea, Samaria and Gaza.
"Palestine" will be demilitarized.

- FIRST ORTHODOX ATTORNEY GENERAL NOMINEE HAILED
Mukasey A Blank Slate On Pivotal Issues - James D. Besser - Washington
Correspondent - 09/21/2007 First Orthodox attorney
general nominee hailed, but record unclear on church-state, abortion,
civil rights.
In a move with deep historic resonance for the Jewish community,
President George W. Bush has turned to a respected Jewish jurist
to restore credibility to a controversy-damaged Justice Department.
The nomination is winning praise from a range of Jewish leaders,
though his positions on a range of issues of concern to Jewish
groups, including church-state law and abortion, remain a mystery.
- This weeks selection as attorney general of retired
Judge Michael Mukasey, 66, who has deep roots in New Yorks
Modern Orthodox community, echoes the 1974 appointment of Edward
Levi to take over a department scarred and demoralized by the
Watergate scandals. Levi is the only Jewish attorney general
in American history until now. In both cases you have a
distinguished jurist who is bringing a lifelong devotion to the
law to a Justice Department mired in crisis, said Jonathan
Sarna, a Brandeis historian. It is often the case that
outsiders are brought in at times like these. Its not surprising
that these presidents chose Jews with great legal competence.
- In another historical parallel, Mukasey, like Levi, will
quickly have to deal with explosive issues involving the limits
to federal investigative authority. But the broadly favorable
response by Jewish leaders to his nomination, and signs of support
from key Senate Democrats, concealed many question marks about
Mukaseys views. As a federal judge in Manhattan for 19
years, he left a scant record on church-state law and abortion
rights, adding to the surprise of why he was picked by a president
who until now has made ideology a litmus test for cabinet membership.
- Hes not a social conservative, as far as I can
tell, and thats important to our community, said
Marc Stern, legal director for the American Jewish Congress and
a longtime leader in church-state jurisprudence. We have
no idea what he thinks about civil rights, no idea about his
positions on church-state issues. And we dont know much
about what he thinks about abortion. And Mukasey is not
personally close to Bush, another prime consideration for top
administration posts. In fact, the two met for the first time
only this month. That the president was willing to nominate
a man whose views on some of these social issues are not known
shows how focused the administration is on one issue, Stern
said.File deleted Continued:

- RARE OPPORTUNITY FOR PEACE
- Majdi Halabi Published: 09.27.07 - Israel Opinion - For first
time in 60 years, all Arab states willing to recognize Israel.
Last month, Jordan's Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah Khatib and his
Egyptian counterpart, Ahmed Abul Gheit, presented to our prime
minister and political leaders the details of the Arab initiative
ratified in Saudi Arabia. The initiative, which was rejected
by former premier Ariel Sharon, who was busy with the disengagement
at the time, is back on the international stage, and constitutes
a rare window of opportunity. For the first time in 60 years,
all Arab countries are willing to recognize the existence of
the Jewish state and even maintain normal relations with it.
The conditions for it, according to a source involved in drafting
the initiative, are very general: Israel is obligated to withdraw
from the occupied territories and grant the Palestinians an independent
state whose capital is east Jerusalem. In addition, the initiative
calls for a fair solution to the Palestinian refugee problem.
However, the initiative does not require the parties to base
an agreement on the precise 1967 borders or allow refugees to
enter Israel. In addition, the initiative does not stipulate
that the Old City in Jerusalem become the Palestinian capital.

- ECONOMIST TALLIES SWELLING COST OF ISRAEL TO US
By David R. Francis - Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
- Since 1973, Israel has cost the United States about $1.6 trillion.
If divided by today's population, that is more than $5,700 per
person. This is an estimate by Thomas Stauffer, a consulting
economist in Washington. For decades, his analyses of the Middle
East scene have made him a frequent thorn in the side of the
Israel lobby.
del.icio.us - The US & Israel - 04/20/98 - US Aid to Israel:
Will It Shrink?
Is U.S backing of Israel worth it? For the first time in many
years, Mr. Stauffer has tallied the total cost to the US of its
backing of Israel in its drawn-out, violent dispute with the
Palestinians. So far, he figures, the bill adds up to more than
twice the cost of the Vietnam War. And now Israel wants more.
In a meeting at the White House late last month, Israeli officials
made a pitch for $4 billion in additional military aid to defray
the rising costs of dealing with the intifada and suicide bombings.
They also asked for more than $8 billion in loan guarantees to
help the country's recession-bound economy. Considering Israel's
deep economic troubles, Stauffer doubts the Israel bonds covered
by the loan guarantees will ever be repaid. The bonds are likely
to be structured so they don't pay interest until they reach
maturity. If Stauffer is right, the US would end up paying both
principal and interest, perhaps 10 years out.
- Israel's request could be part of a supplemental spending
bill that's likely to be passed early next year, perhaps wrapped
in with the cost of a war with Iraq. Israel is the largest recipient
of US foreign aid. It is already due to get $2.04 billion in
military assistance and $720 million in economic aid in fiscal
2003. It has been getting $3 billion a year for years. Adjusting
the official aid to 2001 dollars in purchasing power, Israel
has been given $240 billion since 1973, Stauffer reckons. In
addition, the US has given Egypt $117 billion and Jordan $22
billion in foreign aid in return for signing peace treaties with
Israel. "Consequently, politically, if not administratively,
those outlays are part of the total package of support for Israel,"
argues Stauffer in a lecture on the total costs of US Middle
East policy, commissioned by the US Army War College, for a recent
conference at the University of Maine. These foreign-aid costs
are well known. Many Americans would probably say it is money
well spent to support a beleagured democracy of some strategic
interest. But Stauffer wonders if Americans are aware of the
full bill for supporting Israel since some costs, if not hidden,
are little known. Continued: http://www.csmonitor.com/2002/1209/p16s01-wmgn.html

- KADDISH IN FRANCE
- Commentary was given by Scott Simon in NPR radio, August
11, 2007 - "There used to be a joke in Paris, what is the
difference between the chief rabbi in France and the Cardinal
of Paris? The Cardinal speaks Yiddish! Jean Marie Cardinal Lustiger
was buried yesterday; he died this week of cancer. He was born
almost 81 years ago to Polish parents who ran a dress shop in
Paris. When the German army marched in his parents sent him and
his sister into hiding with a Catholic family in Orleans. Their
mother was captured and sent to Auschwitz. In 1999 as Cardinal
of Paris, Jean Marie Lustiger took part in reading of the names
of France's day of remembrance of Jews who had been deported
and murdered. He came to the name Gesele Lustiger, paused, teared
and said, my mama. The effect in France during a time of revived
anti-Semitism was electric.
- He was just 13 and in hiding when he converted to Catholicism,
not to escape the Nazis he always said, because no Jew could
escape by conversion, and not of trauma, he said. Among his most
controversial observations, I was born Jewish and so I remain,
even if that is unacceptable for many. For me the vocation of
Israel is bringing light to the goyem. That is my hope and I
believe that Christianity is the means for achieving it. There
were a great number of rabbi's who consider his conversion a
betrayal. Especially after so many European Jews had so narrowly
escaped extinction. Cardinal Lustiger replied, to say that I
am no longer a Jew is like denying my father and mother, my grandfathers
and grandmothers. I am as Jewish as all other members of my family
that were butchered in Auschwitz and other camps.
- He confessed to a biographer that he had a spiritual crisis
in the 1970's provoked by persistent anti-Semitism in France.
He studied Hebrew, and considered emigrating. He said I thought
that I had finished what I had to do here, he explained and I
might find new meaning in Israel. But just at that time the pope
appointed him bishop of Orleans. He found purpose he said in
the plight of immigrant workers. Then he was elevated to Cardinal.
- The Archbishop of Paris. Jean Marie Lustiger was close
to the Pope. They shared a doctrinal conservatism. He also battled
bigotry and totalitarianism. For years Cardinal Lustiger's name
was among those who was considered to succeed John Paul. Without
putting himself forth, the Cardinal joked that few things would
bedevil bigots more than a Jewish Pope. They don't like to admit
it he said, but what Christians believe, they got - through Jews.
The funeral for Cardinal Lustiger began at Notre Dame Cathedral
yesterday (August 10/07), with the chanting of Kaddish, the Jewish
prayer for the dead." Sometimes there are profound inconsistencies
in our world. Word From Yerushalaim
