ISRAEL FURTHER ANTI-GODLY UN RESOLUTIONS, AGAINST ISRAEL
Temple Mount Faithful - December 1st, 2000, ..the.. UN again passed 6 resolutions against the Gd and people of Israel and Jerusalem. These .. resolutions stated that the Israeli control over Jerusalem is illegal and therefore has no validity. This was not enough for them and the resolutions also stated that Israel should withdraw from the Golan Heights and called for self-determination for those they call the Palestinians... the resolution is that 145 nations supported the resolution about Jerusalem and only Israel was against it! Even the United States of America only abstained. The other resolutions were passed by the same 145 nations and only Israel and the United States voted against them.
This is not the first time that the UN has passed such .. resolutions with such a great majority of all the nations. However, this time the resolutions were made at a time when the terrorist Arafat and his so-called Palestinians are attacking Israel and Jerusalem in a daily violence which is actually a war against Israel. The meanings of these resolutions is that all the nations support this war against the Gd and people of Israel.
These resolutions confirm what I wrote in previous articles that the Arab attacks with the support of all the nations are the first stages of the end-time war against Israel that was so clearly written by the prophet Ezekiel in chapters 38 and 39.. (1)
BARAK ANNOUNCES HIS RESIGNATION
Breaking News Israel -DEC.9 In a nationally televised press conference, Prime Minister/Defense Minister Ehud Barak moments ago announced that on Sunday, December 9, 2000, he would formally submit his resignation to President Moshe Katzav. Mr. Barak stated that he would have preferred entering into an emergency national unity government but since that is no longer a reality, he has decided to step down and force new elections...The law requires that national elections be held in sixty days.
The law bars former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu from running in the race since following the resignation of a prime minister, only Members of Knesset are eligible to be contenders for the prime minister position. (2)
NETANYAHU NOT A POSSIBILITY
9 December 2000 - Under the current law Netanyahu, who is not an MK, cannot run in a snap election for the prime minister. Netanyahu resigned his spot on the Likud list of 120 candidates for the Knesset and even if an MK were to resign they would simply be replaced by the next in line. (3)
BARAK TEAM ROLLS OUT BLOOD LIBEL AGAINST NETANYAHU
Israel, Dec 12, 2000 - In the few days since the start of the snap election campaign, Prime Minister Ehud Barak's spin team has taken a clear direction as a negative campaign. First Netanyahu was presented as a yored (emigrant) making a fortune overseas rather than toughing it out at home. Then statistics regarding terrorist attacks during the Netanyahu administration were sighted for comparison.
But by the time that Netanyahu completed his speech at the meeting of the Likud Central Committee on Tuesday night, things started to get ugly. Labor Minister of Environment Daliah Itzik, sitting in the Channel One television studio, pulled out what has been termed the weapon of last resort: "Let us not forget that when Binyamin Netanyahu was the head of the opposition the prime minister was murdered." ISLAMIC JIHAD MARKS INTERNATIONAL JERUSALEM DAY IN GAZA
Palestinian Media Watch December 24, 2000 - "Gaza thousands of Islamic Jihad supporters demonstrated yesterday in Gaza, as part of a demonstration organized by the Islamic Jihad in honor of "international Jerusalem day". The audience shouted slogans denouncing the Washington negotiations, and waved Hizbullah flags and posters of Ayatollah Humeini, who announced that on this day the [masses] will call annually 'for the liberation of Jerusalem from the Zionistic occupation'... tens of masked men stood at the head of the demonstration, wearing white shrouds on which were written 'Hizbullah Jerusalem Regiments', while holding explosive charges in their hands... High ranking members of the Islamic Jihad and representatives of the Palestinian Forces participated in the demonstration, ... along with the first deputy of the head of the legislation council, Ibrahim Abu Annaja. Secretary General of Fatah faction in Gaza, Ahmad Hilles, spoke on behalf of the National Forces, and promised that the 'Intifada will go on and will continue hurting Israelis, and causing their blood shed everywhere, so that the Palestinian people won't be the only ones who shed their blood every day". CLINTON WEIGHS INTERNATIONAL PEACE CONFERENCE:
Tzemach News Service 6 January 2001 - US President Bill Clinton is considering convening either an international conference or a White House summit to issue a presidential statement formalizing his Middle East peace proposal. Clinton would then seek endorsement for the draft from world leaders as a basis for future negotiations, diplomatic sources in Washington said Saturday. Israeli negotiator Gilead Sher delivered a six-page document to Clinton on Friday evening that formalized Israel's acceptance of the president's peace proposal and listed Israel's reservations. Israel has expressed concerns about all elements of the Clinton proposal, including how to divide control of the holy sites in Jerusalem, the Palestinian 'right of return', and the positioning of an international force in the Jordan Valley after Israel redeploys from 94-96 percent of Judea and Samaria.
EVEN THEIR OWN 'LEADERS' DO NOT WANT THEM:
Here is a riddle: The lives of how many families - out of a total of 420,000 residents of the Gaza Strip still living in refugee camps - have been improved with the large sums of money that the PA/PLO has received from donor states, since the signing of the Oslo agreement in 1993? Answer: None. This fact proves that the Palestinian leadership is basically no different from the leaders of the Arab states who, for several generations, have placed at the top of their respective agendas the desire to perpetuate the plight of the Palestinian refugees, but not the desire to end or even alleviate their suffering. The only difference is that the refugees living in the PA are
the Palestinian leaders' own flesh and blood, and are living under their regime. However, the essentially indifferent attitude of the PA's leaders towards the plight of the Palestinian refugees does not, of course, stop
Palestinian representatives at the multilateral conference on refugee affairs that was set up after the Madrid peace conference from demanding more and more contributions in order to "help improve the lives of the
refugees."Here is another riddle: What is the total amount that the Palestinians are demanding as an overall compensation payment for the refugee situation that was created by the War of 1948? Answer: Approximately $550 billion!
This sum, which is targeted at a number of different issues, was arrived at by representatives of leading Western nations at a multilateral conference on the refugee question after they had calculated the Palestinians' claims. But the story does not end here. Recently, Arafat's economic adviser, Dr. Mahar Al-Kurd declared that, in addition to compensation for the refugees, the Palestinians would demand "compensation for damage incurred by the [Israeli] occupation since 1967." This separate "bill" even includes compensation for the "exploitation" of both the Palestinian beachfront on the Dead Sea and the underground water that Israel has pumped out, as well as the return of direct and indirect taxes, including those related to tourist activity, that Israel has collected
from the Palestinians. Although this additional list of demands sounds like a joke, Al-Kurd claims that he and several of his colleagues heard Israeli experts give their indirect consent to it.Regarding the matter of experts, one should beware of Israeli "experts" who make promises but have not been authorized by anyone to do so - because the problem of the Palestinian "right of return" is not really a problem. These experts rely on their own common sense, not on that of the Palestinians. It would be a good idea to compare what Palestinian leaders say today with what they said after the signing of the Oslo agreements.
After the Oslo agreements had been signed, these leaders said that the refugees were not really interested in returning to Israel and that the issue was merely the granting of the right to return, and not the exercising of that right. Thus, the only demand Palestinian leaders made regarding the Palestinian refugee issue was that Israel issue a declaration recognizing its responsibility for the creation of the refugee problem. No credence should be given to these ingratiating words. In private conversations, responsible Palestinian leaders say - off the record - that nobody really knows how many Palestinian refugees want to return to Israel. According to these responsible leaders, a very large percentage of the refugees in Lebanon, where successive governments have
never been interested in their remaining there, will undoubtedly want to return to Israel's Galilee region.Regarding the Palestinian settlement in Lebanon, Lebanese President Lahoud passed on his negative stand against the matter. According to him, Lebanon continues to maintain its earlier decision on rejecting any
negotiation through which would approve the Palestinian settlement in Lebanon. (6)SUGGESTED WEB SITES: Maps of Israel, including ones showing what the current "negotiations" are all about. http://www.jr.co.il/things/maps.htm
RABBI YOSEF TELLS SHARON TO ARLEADY CONSIDER HIMSELF "INCOMING PRIME MINISTER"'
Tue Jan 9,2001 -- Rabbi Ovadia Yosef told Likud leader Ariel Sharon yesterday that he should already consider himself the "incoming prime minister," and MKs in the Likud and Shas began jockeying for portfolios as if a new coalition was already being formed. Shas MK Shlomo Benizri said last night that while the issue has not yet been discussed with Sharon, he believes Shas deserves to be given at least five portfolios, including Finance. (7)
JERUSALEM, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
In the Midrash, our sages state: "Jerusalem is the light of the world. And who is the light of Jerusalem? The Holy One, blessed be He" (Breishith Rabba 59:8).
The Temple Institute - 9 Jan 2001 - Last night, at the mass rally held outside the walls of the Old City in solidarity with an undivided, eternal Jewish Jerusalem, that light became a palpable, tangible reality that could be sensed. During Chanukah, we wrote in these pages about G-ds promise to "search Jerusalem with candles." But last night, no candles were necessary. It was reflected not only in the spotlights and torches that shone off the Old Citys walls, but in the faces of the hundreds of thousands of Jews who came from all over Israel and the world to line the streets and pledge their loyalty to the city that is also called by the sages "the mother of Israel" (Midrash Mchiri, Psalms, 147). And just who is it that would be willing to give his mother away?
Speaking to reporters, Binyamin Netanyahu said "Jerusalem is our heart, our soul, and the center of our being. We cannot tear our heart in two, and we will never, ever divide Jerusalem." But the sages said it even better: "Jerusalem is called life" (Avot DRabbi Natan 34:10).
Last night, the collective, pure and untainted spirit of the Jewish people made a statement to the world: we will not allow anyone to tamper with our life. Mayor Ehud Olmert, diplomatically polite in the extreme, told Bill Clinton that it would be a shame for him to wreck eight years of friendship with Israel with his "creative" idea of dividing the city. "Think about it, Mr. President," Olmert said.
Elsewhere there can be found a far less diplomatic, more straightforward message to Mr. Clinton. "The L-rd rebukes you, O adversary; even the L-rd who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you" (Zacharia 3:2).
"Like the flocks of the holy sacrifices, like the flock of Jerusalem in her appointed times, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men, and they shall know that I am the L-rd" (Ezekiel 36:38). To behold countless Jews of diverse affiliations and backgrounds, speaking every language, filling the citys streets to pledge their allegiance to her and to affirm their imperishable connection, was perhaps the closest one could get to the experience of the festival pilgrimage up to the Holy Temple.
"Jerusalem, built as a city that is compact together" (Psalms 122) and as the sages comment on this verse, "the city that binds all of Israel together in friendship." This was called the largest gathering in the history of Jerusalem, but during the festival pilgrimage in the Holy Temple, there were even larger crowds. Then a miracle is said to have occurred: No matter how many pilgrims crowded into the Temple, there was always ample room for everyone to bow down before the Divine Presence.
Before the eyes of the world, Israel is again united in Jerusalem, and focusing on the Temple Mount, as one man with one heart. Each speaker at the gathering affirmed the Jewish peoples inexorable bond with the Temple Mount, and recognized it as the link between our past and our future. For 2,000 years, Jews the world over turn and face this spot daily in prayer. It was noted that although the Arabs have squatted on our holy site for 1300 years, they never got around to changing their religious pilgrimage from Mecca to Jerusalem. Even on the platform of the Mount, the Moslem worshippers turn their backs on its holiness and bow down towards Mecca. Yet Jerusalems Mufti has called last nights gathering a "provocation" and issued a religious edict obligating every Moslem to defend El Aksa. He also stated that even the Western Wall and its plaza "is Moslem property,
including seven levels below, and seven levels above...It is forbidden for Moslems to permit non-Moslems to supervise, conduct services or pray in any part of the mosques or underneath them."Let it be noted that to the Mufti of Jerusalem, we find another clear message, totally lacking in diplomacy:
"And the L-rd roars out of Zion, and utters His voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and earth shake, but the L-rd will be a shelter for His people, and a stronghold for the Children of Israel. So shall you know that I am the L-rd your G-d dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain: Then shall Jerusalem be holy, and no strangers shall pass through her anymore" (Zacharia 1:17).
Sunday night, at the Israel Policy Forum dinner in New York, Bill Clinton publicly unveiled his plan. "There is no choice but for Israel to divide this land into two states for two peoples." Jerusalem, says the President, must be the capital of both Israel and Palestine. Mr. Clinton was praised as a great peacemaker, and presented with a scroll inscribed with the Hebrew words "todah, haver" (thank you, friend).
However, a different, older scroll the Torah scroll bears a contrasted inscription for Bill Clinton:
"Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the peoples round about...and on that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all the peoples: all that burden themselves with it shall be grievously hurt, and all the peoples of the earth shall be gathered together against it" (Zacharia 12).
Zacharia the prophet met an angel carrying a measuring line in his hand. "Then I said, where are you going? And he said to me, to measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth of it, and what is the length of it. Jerusalem shall be inhabited like unwalled towns...for I, says the L-rd, will be to her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her" (Ch. 2).

A THIRD-OF-A-MILLION PLEDGE FOR JERUSALEM (SOME SAY 500,000)
Arutz Sheva News Service - Jan. 9, 2001 Between 300,000 and 400,000 people gathered for a mass rally last night opposing the division of Israel's capital. The theme of the rally was, "Jerusalem: I Pledge Allegiance." The huge crowds spilled over from Jaffa Gate all the way to the main Jaffa Rd. thoroughfare and into many of the adjoining roads. Traffic was diverted away from the area, and many thousands of people could be seen coming and going by foot in all directions throughout the event.
Throughout the rally, pictures and photographs of Jerusalem - such as the City of David antiquities, the Temple Mount, and the liberation of the city in 1967 - were screened on the walls of the Old City near the Tower of David and Jaffa Gate. Speakers included Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau, former Supreme Court Chief Justice Moshe Landau, Avital Sharansky (wife of Yisrael B'Aliyah Party head Natan Sharansky), Chairman of Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Ron Lauder, paratroopers such as Rabbi Yisrael Ariel who participated in the capture of Jerusalem in 1967, left-wing Rishon LeTzion Mayor Meir Nitzan, and organizer Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert...
Mayor Olmert addressed some of his remarks directly to U.S. President Clinton: "We are an old people, and we never forget our friends - but we also do not forget those who raise their hand against our most precious treasures. Don't be the only U.S. President to go down in history as having proposed the division of Israel's eternal capital. Please, Mr. President, think about it."
Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Moshe Landau: "The organizers of this rally acted correctly in ensuring that it would have no political flavor - because the dream of the integrity of all Jerusalem is something that all the Jewish parties in Israel have in common, without any difference at all. It is agreed upon by all those who understand the purpose of our presence here in this land, in this city, and especially the Temple Mount, which we have received as a precious deposit from those who preceded us, and we are obligated to return them to those who come after us, complete and whole. The State of Israel does not belong only to those who reside here today, but is rather the country of all Jews, wherever they may be... [When I was in the U.S.] I was witness to the deep excitement felt by Jewish audiences when they heard the wonderful song by Naomi Shemer called "Yerushalayim Shel Zahav" (Jerusalem of Gold). We pray that common sense and understanding will take root amongst them also, and then truly, true peace will reign here in United Jerusalem."
Yisrael Berko, a resident of the Old City: "I was born in the Old City 13 years ago, in the building called Beit Reut. I would like to say to all of you, in the name of my friends who live in Herod's Gate, in Damascus Gate, in Zion Gate, in Jaffa Gate, and all over the Old City: We are not from the 'Moslem Quarter' or the 'Jewish Quarter' - we are from Jerusalem-Between- the-Walls, the undivided and complete city of Jerusalem. No more quarters and sections - only Jerusalem, that will has always been and will always be the pinnacle of the Jewish longing and striving, the heart and center, of the entire Jewish nation!" ..
The police have confirmed that they did not allow the rally's organizers to carry out their plan for a human chain around the Old City walls, as a result of an agreement with the PLO's Fatah. Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler reports that the Palestinians demanded that the police forbid the human chain between Damascus Gate and Herod's Gate [along the northern wall]. In return, Fatah promised that they would prevent Arab rioting and violence during the rally. Jerusalem's new police commander, Mickey Levy, agreed to the deal and canceled the approval he originally issued for the human chain.
The rally was sponsored by an international organization called One Jerusalem, which is responsible for such efforts as an internet petition calling on the world community to recognize a united Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, and a powerful 30-second video clip depicting the Palestinians' endangerment of children and manipulation of children's minds in their current fight against Israel. The petition can be signed at <"http://www.onejerusalem.org/home/index.asp">, and the video can be received as an attachment by sending a blank email to: <a href ="mailto:hatredfromthecradle@IsraelNationalNews.com"> hatredfromthecradle@IsraelNationalNews.com </a>. One Jerusalem was founded by a diverse group that includes MK Natan Sharansky, Ambassador Dore Gold, Prof. Eli Pollak, Rabbi Chaskel Besser, Douglas Feith, Yechiel Leiter, and others.

ARIEL SHARON REVEALS PLANS
The Knesset will conduct a special mid-recess session today, at the Likud's request, to discuss the diplomatic situation. At the request of the One Israel (Labor) faction, the refusal of the Likud candidate for Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, to publicize his own peace plan will also be discussed.
Sharon has, however, revealed some important aspects of his strategy to the weekly magazine Kfar Chabad. In the upcoming issue, to be published this Thursday, Sharon says, "The Oslo agreements became null and void the moment the current Palestinian violence started." When asked why it is "so hard" for him to say so publicly, he answered, "Here, I am saying it as clearly as possible: The Oslo agreements no longer exist, period."
When asked why is it that his campaign motto boasts that he will bring peace when it is not even clear if the Palestinians will agree to meet with him, Sharon answered, "Whoever thinks that only concessions will bring peace is mistaken I have frequent contact with Palestinian leaders, such as Abu Mazen... [They respect me because] everyone respects someone who stands firmly on his own principles..." Sharon also said that if he becomes Prime Minister, "all the Yesha settlements will remain in place, period," as they are all in zones required for Israel's security. When asked, then, what are the "painful concessions" that he has said will be required for peace, Sharon said, "I mean that we will not re-conquer Shechem and Jericho, the birth-cradle of the Jewish nation. I don't know of any nation that has given up on such precious historical national assets." (9)
ARAFAT DEMANDS LIMIT JEWS
IMRA (Independent Media Review & Analysis) - 7 January 2001 [As incredible as it may sound to those who have engaged in "dialogue" with various Palestinians over the years, the following is NOT a hoax] Israel Television Channel One's senior correspondent Ehud Yaari reported on the 7:30 PM news program that the Palestinian demands in response to the Clinton plan include:
- Western Wall under Palestinian control with Jewish access [apparently in accordance with the 1931 Mandate Era Wailing Wall Order] subject to the prohibition on the placement of benches or partitions at the Western Wall.
- No Jewish control of any area within eastern Jerusalem, including the Old City.
- No recognition of any Jewish connection to any holy site.
- Jewish immigration to Israel tied to Palestinian right of return. (10)
ARIEL SHARON HAS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED HIS ELECTION CAMPAIGN
Palestine-Beit Agron Int'l Press Center Jerusalem, Israel January 11, 2001 Ariel Sharon, the candidate of the Right for the Prime Ministry in Israel, officially launched his election campaign last night with an assembly in occupied Jerusalem; ((note: the Likud assembly took place in Western Jerusalem in Binyanei Ha-Ooma)). He said there would not be peace without concessions."
Q: "Ariel Sharon began his campaign yesterday and said Oslo cannot serve as the basis for peace. What in your opinion is Sharon's idea of peace?" A: "Sharon is trying to apply talking about peace. Sharon is trying to use the language of peace for a few days , and he is trying to demonstrate that he will concretize peace. He is sending various messages to the Arabs, speaking in several voices..All that, the strange thing about it is that it has no substantive connection to peace. The substance is that he says he will not return to Ramallah again, which for him is a concession and that he will not dismantle any settlements under any circumstances. And he says NO concessions in the Jordan (Ghor) Valley and Jerusalem and all these matters. In my view, this is illogical and even immoral..This will lead after a while to war and not to peace.. We will not stand still for something like that. .We remember that he brought us Sabra and Chatilla. We have to have a clear agenda..We are gathering information on Sharon and others beside Sharon, and it has to be clear, and (then) we will build a policy based on that." (11)
SHARON AS PRIME MINISTER WOULD SPELL DISASTER
Ha'aretz - 11 January 2001: Egypts ambassador to Israel, Mohammad Bassiouni, said if Likud candidate
Ariel Sharon becomes prime minister, it will be a disaster. Bassiouni was speaking Tuesday in Cairo, where he has been since his government recalled him in November to protest Is raels use of force against Palestinians. He
said unless Prime Minister Ehud Barak manages to forge an accord between the two sides by the end of next week, there will be no agreement for two decades. (12)FIG LEAVES - JERUSALEM MARCH
A Voice in the Wilderness - 6 Jan 2001 - .. In an e-mail this morning (1-6-01) it appears that the Christian Embassy in Jerusalem is going to get into the act, as "christians" are also being called upon to support and participate in this "rally". Their purpose seems to be to "show solidarity" with Israel, since, after all, Christianity has its "roots in" Israel. It has been their goal to "demonstrate worldwide Christian support for a united Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty and open to all faiths."
Well, such a statement is not a "Christian" statement, is it. "All faiths" is not of the God Most High. Such support for such a rally is not "Christian" (Godly) support, is it. They claim to be supporting Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount "based on Biblical principles". Thing is, the Scripture says that the Temple is to be a "house of prayer for all nations" (Is56:7) ...not, 'for all faiths'. There is only -One- God (Deu6:4) and when Messiah comes to rule, "..the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be- 'Jehovah is one', and His name one." (Zech14:9) Thus, the "house" in question is "My house" (Is56:7). "My" == "Jehovah"
Another example of the sad state of UNBELIEF regarding those who pledge support to Israel and Jerusalem... Recently we observed the Temple Mount's reliance upon the "spirit of the Maccabees". They went to commune with the spirits of the Maccabees, and to "take" this -spirit- to the Temple Mount area recently during Chanukah. In an e-mail from Gershon Salomon since then, telling about how that Chanukah march went and what they did, he quotes from Zechariah, "and they shall look towards me, regarding those whom the nations have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only son.." (Zech12:10)
Again, notice the misquoting of Scripture. That passage says, "..-THEY- will look on Me whom -THEY- have pierced.." This was the jist of Peter's message at Pentecost, "Jesus...WHOM -YOU- CRUCIFIED.." (Ac2:36) They are yet in unbelief regarding their True Messiah. Until they acknowledge Him, Whom they blank out by typing "G-d", whose work is a "forbidden chapter" to read, Isaiah 53, they will continue striving in futility.
We might encourage them to not negotiate away what God gave them, with false treaties. But if they are yet in unbelief, none of these rallies will be of any benefit. They will likely only cause to spark more unrest, eventually leading to the prophesied war.
Dear Believer: do not despair at Israel's blindness, nor be deceived by that which calls itself "christian". In fact, it is rather 'fitting' that Israelis and false-christians should join together in such futile efforts...-IN- Jerusalem. That is the focus of prophecy. Israel is about to be "refined" (Mal3:3) and Laodicea is about to be "vomited out" (Rev3:16) Amen! (13)
BEN-AMI AIMING TO HEIGHTEN EUROPEAN INVOLVEMENT IN PEACE PROCESS
Ha'aretz January 5, 2001 - Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami wrapped up his trip to Europe on Thursday. During the course of his visit, Ben-Ami met with the Swedish prime minister, the head of the European Union, and with the German foreign minister. Ben-Ami is attempting to achieve maximum coordination between
Europe and the United States on the Middle East in general and Israel in particular. European coordination has become especially important because the nature of U.S. involvement in the region as of January 21, when George W. Bush's presidency commences, is unknown.BEN-AMI PREDICTS 'EARTHQUAKE' IF JERUSALEM GIVEN TO PALESTINIANS
January 5, 2001 - BERLIN - If a peace agreement is signed with the Palestinians granting then East Jerusalem as a capital, there will be an earthquake in Israel the like of which has never been seen before, Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami forecast Friday. (14)
ENTIRE TEMPLE MOUNT AREA, ETC. CLAIMED MUSLIMS
PA appointed Jerusalem Mufti: Mount, including Western Wall and the plaza in front of it, is Waqf property
Ha'aretz 9 January 2001 - Jerusalem Mufti Shiekh Ekrima Sabri yesterday issued a fatwa (Muslim religious edict) proclaiming the entire Temple Mount area, seven stories below and seven stories above belongs to the Muslim Waqf authority. The area, continued the Mufti, is the property of God and cannot be transfered to anyone else. Speak ing at a press conference at his office on the Temple Mount, Sabri said the Western Wall and the plaza in front of it are part of the holy Mount and are also Waqf property. He stressed there were no political overtones in the timing or content of the fatwa , but that the fatwa compelled a billion Muslims around the world to act accordingly. (15)
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT IN ISRAEL
By and large, when it comes to the current undeclared war between Israel and the Palestinians, it's the Palestinian side that gets all the favorable press. The United Nations, in particular, is consumed with the issue of Israeli violations of human rights against the oppressed Palestinians. In its history, the U.N. has passed dozens of
anti-Israeli resolutions condemning Israel for this or for that, but evidently can find no fault in anything done by Yasser Arafat and company. (16)
ISRAEL WILL NOT SIGN A TREATY TO ESTABLISH AN INTERNATIONAL WAR CRIMES COURT
December 25, 2000 - Ha'aretz - Israel will not sign a treaty this month to establish an international war
crimes court, Prime Minister Ehud Barak decided yesterday. Barak will bring this decision to the cabinet for approval next week. Israel will still be able to join the court any time during the next two years, but it will now have to ratify as well as sign the treaty, and to amend its own laws accordingly. Until the end of this month, countries were allowed to sign without ratifying.Barak has thus adopted the position of Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein. Rubinstein said that while Israel attaches great moral importance to the establishment of the court, the treaty defines the settlements as a war
crime. Therefore, if Israel were to sign the treaty, it would effectively be accepting this formulation, when its goal instead is to change it, Rubinstein said. (17)
