Regent Launches Institute for Christ-Centered Counseling By CBN.com Nearly 70% of all people seeking help will typically contact their pastor, priest or rabbi first. Broken marriages, widespread substance abuse, single parent families, youth violence, and individuals who struggle with depression -- these are only a few examples of how our society has rejected its Judeo-Christian foundation. Problems such as these scream for attention and comfort. Ministry leaders need the necessary tools to enable them to instruct and counsel people with broken families and broken lives.

When I started CBN, the goal was to share the Gospel with the people; this goal led to counseling ministries such as the National Counseling Center and Operation Blessing International. Our prayer counselors at the National Counseling Center listen with compassion to a caller's concerns, offer encouraging words from the Bible and pray for a solution. Operation Blessing International relieves suffering and helps develop healthy, vibrant and self-sustaining communities by exemplifying Christian compassion and benevolence. Nearly 70% of all people seeking help will typically contact their pastor, priest or rabbi first. The local church is an integral and vital part of the healing process for thousands of people around the world. But many pastors and church leaders today can quickly become overwhelmed with the felt needs of those they to whom they minister and counsel.

To help these churches and ministries respond to hurting people with the compassion of Jesus Christ, the School of Psychology and Counseling at Regent University will launch its first complete online program as part of the Institute for Christ-Centered Counseling (ICCC) beginning in Fall, 2001. The training focus is specifically designed to offer churches, ministries and various organizations a coordinated, biblically-based curriculum to prepare effective lay counselors. ..

The ICCC can benefit both individuals and the church as a whole. As more people are trained, they in turn strengthen the local church. A pastor no longer needs to have the sole burden of ministry to the congregation.

Certificate programs abound in our "wired" environment, but the Institute for Christ-Centered Counseling operates as an extension of the School of Psychology and Counseling at Regent University. This means that the instruction offered through the ICCC is backed by dedicated and learned faculty at one of America's fastest growing graduate schools.

This mirrors the same degree program offered in residency at Virginia Beach and at the Alexandria, Virginia campus. The HSC Program is an ideal degree for those who want to counsel in the non-profit sector, enhance their church or ministry effectiveness, seek to counsel others as part of their usual vocations, or wish to combine their studies in counseling with another discipline, such as law, education or theology...
